CAF President Motsepe praises Morocco's role in hosting landmark Women's CAN 2024
«This edition will undoubtedly be the most successful and memorable of all. I express my deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, as well as to the Moroccan people for their unwavering support for the development of African football», Motsepe stated during a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, a suburb of Salé, following a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee.
After thanking the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) for hosting the committee's proceedings, the South African official praised the participation of African clubs in the Club World Cup, namely Wydad Casablanca, Espérance de Tunis, Egypt's Al Ahly, and South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns.
Motsepe expressed hope that African teams will advance even further in future editions of the Club World Cup. He also highlighted Morocco's historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the Atlas Lions reached the semi-finals. «Africa is proud of Morocco's performance», he said.
«I am confident that an African team will be crowned World Champion in the future», he added, also predicting that Morocco will host the best-ever edition of the men's Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.
The CAF Executive Committee meeting was held on the sidelines of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from July 5 to 26 in Morocco.

Othmane Maamma Set to Join Watford from Montpellier
Moroccan international Othmane Maamma is set to join Watford within hours, per multiple reports. The 19-year-old winger is completing his medical ahead of a four-year deal with the Championship side, after Watford agreed a transfer fee with Montpellier, according to L'Equipe. Maamma, who tallied 2 goals and 1 assist in 14 Ligue 1 appearances last season, stood out despite Montpellier's relegation to Ligue 2. The Moroccan U21 international had also attracted interest from German side Freiburg, reportedly willing to offer around $3.25 million for the final two years of his contract. But Watford moved quicker, securing the player as part of their bid to return to the Premier League. Primarily a right-winger but capable across the front line, Maamma is expected to be Watford's first major signing under Tom Cleverley following last season's 14th-place finish. The club is also in advanced talks for Metz attacker Papa Diallo, with a $5.5 million deal said to be close.

Ziyech Linked to Turkish Club After Qatar Exit
Hakim Ziyech may be heading back to the Turkish Super League. Gençlerbirliği, one of the league's newly promoted sides, has reportedly submitted an offer to the Moroccan international. The 32-year-old winger was released by Galatasaray in January and failed to make an impact during a short stint with Qatar's Al-Duhail, where he was also dismissed within six months. Reports from Türkiye suggest Ziyech is facing tax-related complications, with his assets in the country potentially at risk. This cloud may affect his willingness to return, though Gençlerbirliği are still awaiting a response. Should the deal fall through, the Ankara-based club intends to pursue another high-profile signing. Ziyech, for his part, has made it clear: he has no interest in playing in the Arabian Gulf again. After his underwhelming spell in Qatar, the former Ajax and Chelsea playmaker is determined to revive his career in Europe – ideally with a side that offers regular football ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil next December. According to Al Mountakhab, Ziyech turned down three lucrative offers from Gulf clubs and is currently in advanced talks with Fiorentina, as reported by Tutto Calcio . Despite a career dampened by injuries and inconsistency since leaving Ajax, Ziyech is reportedly targeting a return to the Netherlands or another top European league to rediscover his form – and potentially reclaim his place with the Atlas Lions.
