Marcos inspects learning spaces, donates Starlink units in Marawi

GMA Network23-06-2025
President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Monday inspected the Temporary Learning Spaces in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.
Marcos' visit to Barangay Sagonsongan was part of his administration's commitment in making education more accessible to the youth.
The President went to the TLS area where classes are in progress across five schools, serving around 720 students.
He also witnessed the installation of a Starlink internet unit which he donated to provide reliable internet connectivity for students and teachers in the area.
He donated Starlink units to schools in remote parts of Marawi City, including Bangon Elementary School, Bacarat National High School, Angoyao National High School, and Cabasaran Primary School.
The Office of the President also distributed school bags with supplies to all the TLS enrollees.
The TLS is an emergency education initiative, which was launched in the aftermath of the Marawi siege.
It provides makeshift classrooms in areas where school buildings were destroyed or remain inaccessible due to conflict.—AOL, GMA Integrated News

Palace: Marcos to study refiled divorce, anti-political dynasty bills

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. will study the refiled bills in Congress, particularly the proposed measures on divorce and anti-political dynasty. During Thursday's press conference, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said the President has no official stance yet as regards the divorce bill, as it would be better to study this measure first. ''Sa ngayon po ay wala pa pong klarong stance ang Pangulo patungkol sa Divorce Bill... Mas maganda po talagang makita kung ano iyong nilalaman na provisions sa sinabi nating Divorce Bill dahil sa ating pagkakaalam ang karaniwan doon sa mga provisions or sa mga dahilan para i-approve ang legal separation ay sinama nila para maging dahilan na rin para mapawalang-bisa ang kasal hindi lang through legal separation,'' Castro said. (Right now, the President does not have a clear stance regarding the Divorce Bill... It would be better to see what provisions are contained in the said Divorce Bill because, as far as we know, the usual provisions or reasons for approving legal separation have been included to also be grounds for annulling a marriage, not just through legal separation.) Pressed if Marcos would support such a measure, Castro said it will depend on the bill's provisions and if the Church will also support it. ''Depende po. Muli, kapag po maganda iyong provisions at makikita rin po natin na ang bawat simbahan ay umaayon na ito ay dapat at nararapat, maaari po itong bigyan nang magandang tugon ng Pangulo,'' she said. (It depends. Again, if the provisions are good and we also see that every church agrees that this is what is necessary and appropriate, the President can give a good response to this.) On Wednesday, the Makabayan bloc lodged a measure that seeks to ban political dynasties. The proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Act seeks to prevent family members from holding or running for national and local positions simultaneously. Castro said the President will also look into this. "Siguro po mas maganda kung maibibigay niya/nila ang pinakadetalye at buong nilalaman ng bill na ito dahil mahirap po sa ngayon na mag-oo o maghindi ang Pangulo. Mas maganda pong maibigay iyong pinakadetalye dahil maaaring magandang maidulot nito sa ating bansa," she said. (Maybe it would be better if they could provide details of this bill because it is difficult for the President to say yes or no at this time. It would be better if the most detailed information could be provided because it may bring good to our country.) Castro also said Marcos would support any measure that will push for the betterment of the youth. She was asked about the bill filed by Senator Panfilo Lacson seeking to regulate the use of social media by minors. ''Kung ito po talaga ay magko-cause ng mental health issues, sususugan din po ng Pangulo iyan at makakakuha siya ng suporta basta po ito ay para sa taumbayan at lalung-lalo na para sa kabataan,'' Castro said. (If this really causes mental health issues, the President will also amend it and he will get support as long as it is for the people and especially for the youth.) Under Lacson's bill, minors shall be prohibited from accessing or using social media services, while social media platforms shall take "reasonable steps and age verification measures to prevent age-restricted users from registering, accessing, or continuing to use their social media service." —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Palace to Roque: Why blame Marcos on being forced to leave PH?

Malacañang on Wednesday slammed former presidential spokesman Harry Roque for blaming the Marcos administration for his decision to leave the country amid the cases he is currently facing. Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro took a swipe at Roque, saying that President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. was not with the former Palace official when he got involved in supposed "illegal activities." ''Unang-una po, mukhang isinisisi pa po niya ang naging kalagayan niya at ang kinahinatnan niya kay Pangulo at sa administrasyon... Hindi naman po niya yata kasama ang Pangulo nang siya ay nakipag-deal sa Whirlwind at sa Lucky South 99,'' Castro said. (First of all, it seems like he still blames his situation and the outcome on the President and the administration... He apparently wasn't with the President when he made deals with Whirlwind and Lucky South 99.) GMA News Online has reached out to Roque but he has yet to reply as of posting time. In May, warrants of arrest were issued against Roque, Cassandra Ong and 48 others for qualified human trafficking in relation to the alleged scam hub run by Lucky South 99. Roque, however, claimed that he was being politically persecuted by the Marcos administration after the warrant was issued against him. "I am a victim of political persecution by the Marcos government because I am an ally of the Dutertes," Roque previously said. Castro, however, maintained that the warrant of arrest against Roque was valid. "Paano niyang isisisi ito sa Pangulo at sa administrasyon? So, sa mga ganitong klaseng obstructionist, sana po ay ihinto nila at maging tunay na Pilipino," Castro said. The former spokesperson has denied the accusations against him and said he is not and never has been a legal counsel of any illegal POGO and was not a counsel of Lucky South 99. Roque has said that he is currently at The Hague seeking asylum. The Department of Justice claimed that this has been rejected, but Roque said that this was just "fake news." —VAL/ GMA Integrated News

Palace clarifies: Marcos not against K-12 program

Malacañang on Wednesday clarified that President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. is not against the K-12 program. To recall, Marcos previously said that he is frustrated with the implementation of the Senior High School Curriculum, noting that the system has " "no advantage." ''Gusto po nating liwanagin ito. Hindi po niya sinasabi na tutol siya sa K-12. Ang sinabi lang po niya ay hindi naging epektibo agad dahil hindi nai-prepare ang mga ahensiya para dito,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said in a briefing. (We want to clarify this. He's not saying he's against K-12. He's just saying it wasn't effective right away because the agencies weren't prepared for it.) Castro said that under Education Secretary Sonny Angara, the system is being improved. ''At ngayon po sa pamamagitan din po ni Secretary Angara, ini-improve po ito pero ayon po sa ating Pangulo, hangga't nandiyan po ang batas para sa K-12 ito po ay susuportahan at palalawigin at pag-iibayuhin nang maayos para sa ating mga estudyante,'' she said. (And now, through Secretary Angara, it is being improved, but according to our President, as long as the law for K-12 exists, it will be supported, expanded, and improved properly for our students.) In August 2024, Marcos directed the rationalization of the SHS curriculum as he wanted to ensure that SHS graduates could acquire high-quality jobs. Angara had acknowledged the lapses in the implementation of the SHS was one of the authors of Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, which institutionalized the government's K to 12 program. The law restructured the basic education in the country by requiring Filipino students to undergo one year in kindergarten, six years in primary school, four years in junior high school, and two years in senior high school. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
