#SHOWBIZ: 'Teman Sejati' marks as Nidji's first OST for animation film

KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian pop-rock band Nidji is honoured that their heartfelt single, 'Teman Sejati', has been chosen as the official soundtrack (OST) for 'Ejen Ali The Movie 2'.
This marks their first-ever collaboration with an animated feature film.
The song, from the band's latest album 'Manifestasi Hati' released earlier this year, was composed and written by Nidji's guitarist, Andi Ariel Harsya.
It was originally penned in 2019, long before the band envisioned its future on the big screen.
"Actually, the song had been written for quite some time, since 2019. So, when we were approached by the film production for the song to become an OST, we felt very honoured," said Andi when met at a press conference held at Balai Berita, here, today.
He added, "When we recorded it, we never set a target for it to be chosen as an OST for any production, so this is beyond our expectations. It's really divine intervention."
The track, with its stirring lyrics and soaring melody, perfectly complements the themes of friendship, courage, and resilience explored in the movie.
Other band members — Yusuf Ubay, Randy Danishta, Ramadhista Akbar, Adri Perkasa, and Andro Regantoro — were also present at the event.
Meanwhile, according to Azri Yunus, the film's score composer, music plays an equally vital role as the story itself in shaping a cinematic experience.
"When a film is made, while 50 per cent of it is its story, the other half comes from its audio, including sound effects and music," he explained.
"When I first heard this song from Nidji, it was a spot-on choice. From its lyrics to its melody, it's a perfect song as the film's OST."
Azri, along with Usamah Zaid Yasin, founder of WAU Animation and creator of Ejen Ali, carefully integrated the song into the film by aligning it with pivotal scenes through detailed storyboard discussions.
'Ejen Ali The Movie 2', which premiered on May 22, sees Ali become the pilot for a high-stakes mission under Satria, an elite programme powered by an AI-assisted mecha suit.
Once again set in the futuristic city of Cyberaya, this time Ali's mission takes a darker turn when the renegade Ejen Rizwan enlists Ali's help to uncover the true mastermind behind escalating threats in Cyberaya.

Indonesian boy goes viral for boat race moves, named tourism ambassador [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Social media has a peculiar way of turning the obscure into global trends, as seen in the case of an Indonesian boy whose commanding presence during a Pacu Jalur boat race went viral and captured the hearts of people worldwide. Rayyan Arkan Dikha, or Dika, 11, was recorded moving rhythmically at the tip of a long wooden boat during the Pacu Jalur festival in Kuantan Singingi. Wearing a black traditional outfit and sunglasses, his composed expression and deliberate gestures drew massive attention online, leading to countless remakes, memes and tributes. The clip quickly turned into a global trend, catching the attention of sports personalities and celebrities. American football star Travis Kelce, Formula One driver Alex Albon, and football players from Paris Saint-Germain were among those who uploaded their own versions of Dika's moves. According to BBC Indonesia, Dika had not planned the dance in advance, it came naturally during the race. As the Togak Luan, his role is to stand at the front of the boat and inspire the rowers with expressive movements while maintaining balance throughout the race. The Pacu Jalur celebration is one of Riau's most important cultural events. Longboats glide along the Batang Kuantan River in front of cheering crowds. The races are accompanied by traditional performances, music, and exhibitions on the riverbanks. In the viral footage, Dika is seen in a Teluk Belanga outfit paired with a Riau-style headcloth. His gestures include sweeping arms, rotating fists, and forward poses, all performed without breaking focus. Despite the surge in popularity, Dika has remained humble. The 11-year-old said he is happy to see people around the world enjoying and imitating the dance. "My friends always tell me I've gone viral," he told BBC Indonesia. In appreciation of his role in preserving cultural heritage, he was named a cultural ambassador last week by the governor of Riau, his home province.

#SHOWBIZ: Ameera Khan's pricey birthday gift watch from father

KUALA LUMPUR: Social media influencer Ameera Khan recently captured widespread attention after sharing an Instagram photo of her opulent Cartier Panthère de Cartier watch. The timepiece was a birthday gift from her father, accompanied by a heartfelt message that read: "For my lovely girl. Your tennis watch is here. Love, Dad." Based on the watch's model and design, online commentators estimated its value to be between RM20,000 and RM25,000. However, it wasn't the watch's hefty price tag that raised eyebrows among netizens. Instead, the discussion quickly turned to her boyfriend, Indonesian actor Jefri Nichol, and his potential to match such lavish gifts once they are married. While most wished Ameera a happy birthday, some playfully teased Jefri, expressing hope that he could afford even more expensive and luxurious presents for her in the future. One comment read: "Good luck Jefri, the money for this tennis watch alone could cover a car's down payment." Last June, Jefri revealed the story of how he and Ameera met in a TikTok video. The 26-year-old actor explained that he first encountered Ameera's name in 2021 when she was featured on the X platform's "Top 10 Most Beautiful Women in Malaysia" list. Given the long-distance nature of their initial interactions, their connection was primarily nurtured through social media and phone calls. "We only met in 2023," Jefri said, adding that by January 2024, they were officially a couple.
