#SHOWBIZ: 'Teman Sejati' finds a home in 'Ejen Ali'

IT didn't take long for Indonesian rock group Nidji to agree to sing 'Teman Sejati' for the soundtrack of the animated film, 'Ejen Ali The Movie 2'. Vocalist Yusuf Ubay, known as Ubay, said Nidji considered it an honour to be chosen by the production team for the collaboration "I have watched the 'Ejen Ali' series. So when the song 'Teman Sejati' was selected for the soundtrack of the animation film, we thought of it as luck and our 'rezeki'. "Plus, all of Nidji members are well acquainted with 'Ejen Ali' animation, which has an interesting storyline and should be watched by everyone." The band, which has been rocking fans since 2002, was in Kuala Lumpur last month for an exclusive interview as part of the promotion of the hit movie. Ubay said 'Teman Sejati', which has been included in Nidji's latest album 'Manifestasi Hati', was created about six years ago, but its release was held back until recently. It was originally penned in 2019, long before the band envisioned its future on the big screen. "Actually, the song was written in 2019. So when we were approached by the film production for the song to become an OST, we felt very honoured," said Nidji's guitarist, Andi Ariel Harsya, the composer and lyricist of the song. "When we recorded it, we never set a target for it to be chosen as an OST for any production, so this is beyond our expectations. It's really divine intervention. "Thank you to the film production team for trusting Nidji and giving the opportunity for 'Teman Sejati' to be one of the film's soundtracks. "For Nidji, this movie has a strong message and a deep impact on the audience. In fact, 'Teman Sejati' is also in line with the film's positive narrative, which tells a universal story of friendship. "This is a blessing from God who brought Nidji together with the film by chance and we (Nidji) ended up being a good match, too." This collaboration is also considered a milestone for the band as it is their first song to be linked to an animation production. Ubay said 'Teman Sejati' sounds more beautiful once used as the background music for some of the scenes in the movie. Andi Ariel said he did not expect the positive response received for the song. "Initially, I didn't expect that this song would be suitable for this movie. But thanks to the production crew and sound designer, it fits perfectly in the scenes where they had included this song." Even their fans and those who had watched the movie waxed lyrical about the song being a perfect fit for 'Ejen Ali The Movie 2'. "After watching the film recently, we were blown away, especially during the scenes that had the song in the background," Andi Ariel said. Apart from Ubay and Andi Ariel, the other Nidji bandmembers are guitarist Ramadhista Akbar, Randy Danistha (keyboard), Andro Regantoro (bass) and Adriana Prakarsa (drums).

#SHOWBIZ: Usamah Zaid hopeful 'Ejen Ali The Movie 2' will be well-received in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: The teenage superspy Ejen Ali is a hit with Indonesian viewers, and Usamah Zaid Yasin, the creator and director from WAU Animation, is optimistic that Ejen Ali The Movie 2 will also be well-received in the vast republic. Set to debut in Indonesian cinemas this Friday (June 27), Ejen Ali The Movie 2 (EATM2) has high hopes from WAU Animation. Usamah, the chief executive officer, told Harian Metro yesterday that WAU is confident Indonesian cinema-goers will flock to watch the young agent's state-of-the-art adventure. Usamah revealed, "Indonesia is one of three overseas destinations for EATM2, alongside Singapore and Cambodia. Especially for viewers there, we've brought in Indonesian rock band Nidji to perform one of the songs on the original soundtrack, titled 'Teman Sejati'." Usamah also believes that if the movie performs well in the extensive Indonesian market, it will encourage WAU Animation to continue Ejen Ali's cinematic adventures in the future. "Success abroad translates into success at home, and we're optimistic about reaching our RM60 million target, which is just RM5 million away from our current RM55 million," he added. EATM2, a joint production by WAU Animation and Primeworks Studios, premiered in Malaysian and Bruneian cinemas on May 22.

#SHOWBIZ: 'Teman Sejati' marks as Nidji's first OST for animation film

KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian pop-rock band Nidji is honoured that their heartfelt single, 'Teman Sejati', has been chosen as the official soundtrack (OST) for 'Ejen Ali The Movie 2'. This marks their first-ever collaboration with an animated feature film. The song, from the band's latest album 'Manifestasi Hati' released earlier this year, was composed and written by Nidji's guitarist, Andi Ariel Harsya. It was originally penned in 2019, long before the band envisioned its future on the big screen. "Actually, the song had been written for quite some time, since 2019. So, when we were approached by the film production for the song to become an OST, we felt very honoured," said Andi when met at a press conference held at Balai Berita, here, today. He added, "When we recorded it, we never set a target for it to be chosen as an OST for any production, so this is beyond our expectations. It's really divine intervention." The track, with its stirring lyrics and soaring melody, perfectly complements the themes of friendship, courage, and resilience explored in the movie. Other band members — Yusuf Ubay, Randy Danishta, Ramadhista Akbar, Adri Perkasa, and Andro Regantoro — were also present at the event. Meanwhile, according to Azri Yunus, the film's score composer, music plays an equally vital role as the story itself in shaping a cinematic experience. "When a film is made, while 50 per cent of it is its story, the other half comes from its audio, including sound effects and music," he explained. "When I first heard this song from Nidji, it was a spot-on choice. From its lyrics to its melody, it's a perfect song as the film's OST." Azri, along with Usamah Zaid Yasin, founder of WAU Animation and creator of Ejen Ali, carefully integrated the song into the film by aligning it with pivotal scenes through detailed storyboard discussions. 'Ejen Ali The Movie 2', which premiered on May 22, sees Ali become the pilot for a high-stakes mission under Satria, an elite programme powered by an AI-assisted mecha suit. Once again set in the futuristic city of Cyberaya, this time Ali's mission takes a darker turn when the renegade Ejen Rizwan enlists Ali's help to uncover the true mastermind behind escalating threats in Cyberaya.
