Scottie Scheffler won the Open Championship with a score of 17-under, four strokes ahead of runner-up Harris English. The new Champion Golfer of the Year gave another example of his extraordinary superiority in men's professional golf, earning standing ovations from the crowd at Royal Portrush.
Scheffler carded a final-round 68, with five birdies and a double bogey on the eighth hole. That was precisely his only difficult moment of the day, when he sent his tee shot into a fairway bunker and, as he tried to clear it with his second shot, the ball hit the edge of the slope and rolled straight back to his feet.
The rest of the round was more of the good old Scheffler. He hit 57% of the fairways in the round, reached 83.3% of the greens in regulations, and didn't three-putt a single hole. Just as he said he would the day before.
Scheffler thus claimed the fourth major title of his professional golf career and the third leg of the Career Grand Slam. Only the US Open remains for him to complete this tremendous feat.

The World No. 1 will have the extraordinary chance to complete it on his 30th birthday, as his birthday, June 21, coincides with the final round of next year's US Open at Shinnecock Hills.
The local hero at Royal Portrush, Rory McIlroy, charged hard during the final round, but ultimately only managed to finish tied for seventh at 10-under.

Athletics broadcaster Chris Caray completely botches home run call

Baseballs aren't always the easiest to track during the daytime. But the Athletics' play-by-play announcer Chris Caray had a doozy on Saturday. Caray, a fourth-generation broadcaster who's the great-grandson of Harry Caray, badly misjudged a Lawrence Butler ninth-inning, three-run home run to right-center field, stunningly calling it foul before realizing it was gone. X/NBC Sports California The home run, which was hit nowhere near the foul pole, put the A's up 5-1, which was the eventual final score against the Astros at Daikin Park. Advertisement Caray, 25, initially declared, 'High in the air deep to right… That ball is foul… or gone,' as Butler smashed the critical three-run homer. The A's official account even tweeted the clip before deleting it under pressure from online ridicule and reposting the radio call instead. Caray owned up to the blunder on X after the game. Advertisement 'Totally lost it in the lights,' he said. 'No excuses. Unfair to Butler and our fans that I messed it up as badly as I did. This is completely and totally on me. Wish I could have it back but that's baseball. I apologize and will be better tomorrow.' 4 Lawrence Butler reacts after hitting a three-run home run during the ninth inning against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on July 26, 2025 in Houston, Texas. 'Part of this job is recognizing that people can celebrate your highs, but absolutely have the right to critique your mistakes. This is part of the gig. I appreciate everyone holding me accountable and some of the great jokes. I love baseball, and I know you do too.' Advertisement Former MLB pitcher and current broadcaster Dallas Braden had some fun with the call, which Caray retweeted. 4 Chris Caray X/Dallas Braden Caray's father, Chip, is currently the TV voice of the Cardinals after a long run calling Braves games. His grandfather, Skip, was the longtime voice of the Braves. And the bespectacled Harry, the beloved voice of the Cardinals and Cubs, is a Baseball Hall of Fame Ford Frick Award winner. Despite the embarrassment, the call followed a solid game for the Athletics. Butler now has 15 home runs, hitting .238/.310/.420 with 17 steals and 44 RBIs this season. The A's are in last place in the AL West but were on the verge of sweeping the first-place Astros on Sunday in the finale of a four-game set.

Scottie Scheffler Reveals Funniest 'Happy Gilmore 2' Actor Among His Peers

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Scottie Scheffler is one of the many professional golfers appearing in the highly anticipated "Happy Gilmore 2." The film, directed by and starring Adam Sandler, was released last Friday and has stood out for several reasons, particularly its long list of cameos. More than 70 celebrities appear in "Happy Gilmore 2," with golf stars naturally taking center stage. Some players turned more heads than others when it came to acting, with one of them being particularly impressive to Scheffler. "The one I laughed the hardest at, and I actually texted Xander (Schauffele) about this the other day, was Xander's lines in the movie are really, really funny. Him and Rickie (Fowler) did a really good job and so did Will Zalatoris," the World No. 1 said in a recent interview for the "Pardon My Take" podcast. Masters champion Scottie Scheffler of the United States laughs during the Green Jacket Ceremony of the 2023 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 09, 2023 in Augusta, for himself, Scheffler was far less complimentary about his acting skills. "Maybe like a C-minus, a passing grade. I'd give myself a passing grade, but I'm definitely not going to give myself much more than that. I had a few lines. I mean, it was fun. I'll let y'all watch the movie," he told Pardon My Take. The Ridgewood, New Jersey, native was in New York for the premiere last Monday, just over 24 hours after winning the Open Championship. Jetlag didn't stop Scheffler from enjoying the film, and he even offered a review that turned out to be more in-depth than many would expect. "We watched it on Monday night and I was surprised by how much we enjoyed the movie," he told Pardon My Take. "I mean, it's so hard with comedies to follow up the original, especially when the original is such a classic like that. But they did a really, really good job of, you know, kind of remembering the original movie by having a lot of that stuff in there, like a lot of reminiscing about the old movie while still having like a good storyline for the new one." "And lots of really funny stuff. I mean, I was cracking up. Like a lot of the guys that came in and did their cameos did an amazing job." The list of golf stars who made cameos in the film includes Jack Nicklaus, John Daly, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka. Others who have screen time include Nancy Lopez, Nelly Korda, Charley Hull and Paige Spiranac, among many others. More Golf: PGA Tour pro goes unrecognized in 'undercover' club fitting video
