The president of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) is under legal scrutiny following accusations of embezzling $1.3 million in FIFA funds, including $500,000 allocated for the women's national team.
Jean-Guy Blaise Mayolas was arrested in late May by Congo's central intelligence office and is expected to face charges of forgery and money laundering.
According to The Guardian , Mayolas allegedly redirected over $800,000 in FIFA development funds meant for the construction of a national football training centre in Ingné – a project that was supposed to be completed eight years ago but remains unfinished. The report states that all funds have been frozen, with no visible progress on the ground.
Mayolas, who has led FECOFOOT since 2018, is suspected of orchestrating a network of shell companies to siphon off football-related development funds.
A declaration signed by the presidents of all women's clubs, sent to Congolese authorities in March, revealed that only $20,000 of the $500,000 in COVID-19 relief funds provided by FIFA in 2021 was actually distributed to the teams.
A FIFA ethics committee visited Congo in March to assess the claims, but a formal investigation has yet to be launched.
Mayolas is expected to be summoned for a hearing this week in Brazzaville. Tags: CongoEmbezzlementFIFA

Morocco Keeps 12th Spot in FIFA World Ranking, Still Number One in Africa

Rabat – The Moroccan national football team has kept its position as the 12th best team in the world, according to the latest FIFA world ranking released on Thursday. With a total of 1,698.72 points, Morocco remains the top-ranked African team. Senegal follows in second place in Africa (18th worldwide), while Egypt is third on the continent (34th globally). Morocco's strong ranking is thanks to recent friendly wins. The Atlas Lions beat Tunisia 2-0 and defeated Benin 1-0 in their last two matches. These victories helped the team maintain its position in the international rankings. At the global level, Argentina maintains its position as the top national team in the world. Spain holds second place, followed by France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia. Under the leadership of coach Walid Regragui, Morocco has established itself as one of the most respected teams in world football. Since their historic run to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the first African and Arab team to do so, the Atlas Lions have continued to impress fans around the world. All eyes will now be on Morocco as the team prepares for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco in December. Playing on home soil, the pressure, and the expectations, will be high. Fans across the country are hoping for Morocco to lift the trophy for the first time since 1976. Before that, Morocco will continue its campaign in the World Cup 2026 African qualifiers, where the team aims to secure a ticket to the next World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. WAFCON 2025: Morocco Dominates DR Congo 4-2

Rabat — Morocco's women's national team delivered a compelling performance to defeat DR Congo 4-2 in their second game as part of the 2025 WAFCON group stage. The match began with Congo asserting early dominance, as Paris Saint-Germain professional Merveille Kanginga gave her team the lead in the 6th minute. The early goal put the Congolese side in control and left Morocco facing an uphill battle. However, the Atlas Lionesses quickly regained their composure and began to impose their rhythm on the game. Their persistence paid off in the 25th minute when a well-coordinated attacking sequence resulted in the equalizer. Ibtissam Jraidi provided the crucial assist, delivering a perfectly weighted pass to teammate Ghizlane Chebak, who confidently converted the opportunity to restore parity. Chebak's impact on the match extended beyond just the equalizer, as she continued her impressive display. Chabak capitalized on an intelligent pass inside the penalty area to score Morocco's second goal in the 43rd minute. This strike gave the Atlas Lionesses a deserved lead heading into halftime, reflecting their superior performance throughout the latter stages of the first half. The match carried significant implications for both teams' tournament campaigns. Morocco entered the second half determined to secure all three points and reconnect with their supporters, especially following a disappointing opening draw against Zambia. Chebbak tripled the score for Morocco at minute 75. At minute 83, Mrabet turned a penalty kick into Morocco's fourth goal, securing her teammates three points in this second game of the group round. The result represents a crucial step forward for the host country's team as they seek to advance in the tournament.
