No more hiding: Undercover units to storm Kelantan border in major crime clampdown
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the matter would be discussed with General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade commander, Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, in a meeting tomorrow.
He said this action is deemed necessary since cross-border crime is still occurring, although the detected cases were isolated.
'There are arrests almost every day. So, we will change the operational method by increasing the number of plainclothes intelligence units, involving GOF members and police, to patrol the border area,' he said.
'The approach is being taken because most people only feel intimidated when they see the presence of uniformed security personnel, while criminals can take advantage of locations with little visible security surveillance,' he said after attending the Kelantan Contingent Ibadah Korban event at the Kelantan contingent police headquarters here today.
Commenting further, he explained that the distance between the GOF control posts, which can be as far as two to three km apart, is also why smugglers can still slip through incognito.
'The Malaysia-Thailand border spans 136km, while the area under Kelantan police surveillance is 91km. Hence, it is not easy to monitor it completely because each post is far apart.
'The big gaps open up space for people to commit cross-border crimes unnoticed, since crossing the river by boat only takes a minute,' he said.
According to him, in the one-week period from May 31 to June 8, a total of 13 arrests related to cross-border crimes were made under Section 5(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
'The most common reasons often given by perpetrators are to visit family, retrieving vehicle keys and so on. Only two cases (a few) involved entertainment-related purposes,' he said. — Bernama

GOF foils smuggling bid, arrest undocumented migrants
KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) stopped two human smuggling attempts in Kelantan over two days, arresting several undocumented migrants and two suspected tekong darat (name given by locals to those harbouring illegal immigrants). GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the operations, which began on Sunday, were part of Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan. He said the Seventh Battalion detained a vehicle at a roadblock in Chabang Empat Salam, Rantau Panjang, around 3pm Sunday, on suspicion of transporting undocumented migrants. "Upon inspection, (they) found three men and two women from Myanmar, all without valid identification. "The 38-year-old local driver was arrested under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM), while the five Myanmar nationals were held under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said. He said the driver also tested positive for methamphetamine. In a separate raid just after midnight on Monday, GOF personnel stormed a house in Kampung Slow Machang, Pasir Mas. "The raid followed intelligence on smuggling activities. "A 50-year-old local man, believed to be the tekong darat, tried to flee but was swiftly apprehended. Officers also found two men and two women from Myanmar, all undocumented and believed to have entered Malaysia illegally. The team also seized 14 Yaba pills hidden in a cigarette box belonging to the suspect. All undocumented migrants were held under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, while the suspected smugglers were arrested under Section 26J of the ATIPSOM Act and Sections 12(2) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He said the GOF remains committed to tackling cross-border crimes, especially human trafficking and drug-related offences.

These actions have caused insults affecting the honour and dignity of individuals, including politicians and members of royalty. The ministry urged all social media users to conduct themselves with integrity, responsibility and respect, and to adhere to ethical standards of public discourse. It stressed that its goal is to maintain public order and uphold peaceful online environments, free from incitement, hate speech, racism or ethnically charged rhetoric. The statement advised the public to avoid sharing or producing unverified information that could lead to confusion, anger, violence, hatred or racial discrimination. It also called on journalists, content creators and the public to verify information with official sources — particularly on sensitive issues such as the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict — before sharing it. Post-mortem confirms six-year-old Johor boy buried in Jempol strangled with cable tie; police recover hoe used to dig grave
REMBAU, July 29 — Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof confirmed that a six-year-old boy whose body was discovered buried in a remote area in Rompin, Jempol, was killed by strangulation with a cable tie, following a post-mortem at Rembau Hospital. 'The autopsy revealed the boy died due to pressure from a cable tie around his neck,' he said when contacted by Bernama today, adding that the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The investigation first began under Johor police jurisdiction, classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 323/18 of the Domestic Violence Act and Missing Persons procedures. Ahmad Dzaffir said the suspect is still in remand in Johor, but will be brought to Jempol for further questioning in the coming days. 'We will also be recording statements from witnesses, particularly the victim's mother,' he added. Meanwhile, Jempol police chief Supt Norhisham Mustapar said a hoe, believed to have been used by the suspect to dig the boy's grave, was recovered from a secluded area near Jalan Bahau-Rompin. Police had discovered the victim's body around 4.30 pm yesterday, after a tip-off led them to the burial site. Earlier, Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP M Kumarasan confirmed that a man had been remanded for seven days from July 25 to assist with the murder investigation. The suspect lodged a police report in Bukit Indah on July 24, claiming the boy had gone missing. Kumarasan said the man first told police the child had disappeared around 4 pm on July 23 after being left alone in a car while the suspect went out to buy food.
