Post-mortem confirms six-year-old Johor boy buried in Jempol strangled with cable tie; police recover hoe used to dig grave
'The autopsy revealed the boy died due to pressure from a cable tie around his neck,' he said when contacted by Bernama today, adding that the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The investigation first began under Johor police jurisdiction, classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 323/18 of the Domestic Violence Act and Missing Persons procedures.
Ahmad Dzaffir said the suspect is still in remand in Johor, but will be brought to Jempol for further questioning in the coming days.
'We will also be recording statements from witnesses, particularly the victim's mother,' he added.
Meanwhile, Jempol police chief Supt Norhisham Mustapar said a hoe, believed to have been used by the suspect to dig the boy's grave, was recovered from a secluded area near Jalan Bahau-Rompin.
Police had discovered the victim's body around 4.30 pm yesterday, after a tip-off led them to the burial site.
Earlier, Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP M Kumarasan confirmed that a man had been remanded for seven days from July 25 to assist with the murder investigation.
The suspect lodged a police report in Bukit Indah on July 24, claiming the boy had gone missing.
Kumarasan said the man first told police the child had disappeared around 4 pm on July 23 after being left alone in a car while the suspect went out to buy food.
The case was initially classified under Section 182 of the Penal Code for lodging a false report. — Bernama

Police conclude probe into Zara Qairina's death, 60 witnesses interviewed
KUANTAN, Aug 2 — Police have completed their investigation into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, who was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory on July 16. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said about 60 witnesses from various parties had been interviewed in connection with the case. 'The investigation is complete. I expect the police will submit the papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers by next week at the latest,' he said when asked about developments in the case. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Passing-Out Parade for the 12/2024 Maritime Junior Lieutenant Basic Course and the 18/2024 Maritime Class II Cadet Basic Course at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS) here today. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17. Her death sparked widespread reactions on social media after the case went viral. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun was previously reported as saying investigations focused on two main aspects, namely the cause of death and the surrounding circumstances. Meanwhile, Saifuddin said the government remains committed to strengthening the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) operational capabilities, including through the construction of two additional Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV). He said MMEA is also in the process of acquiring a decommissioned United States Coast Guard Cutter, expected to arrive in November. 'With these assets, I believe we can boost morale and enhance the effectiveness of control, patrol and inspection operations,' he said. A total of 68 officers and 186 personnel completed 10 months of basic training and are now qualified to serve in the MMEA.

Repeat offender stabbed policeman in Pudu while carrying drugs
KUALA LUMPUR: The man who stabbed a police corporal during a patrol in Pudu last week turned aggressive because he was carrying drugs, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. The 56-year-old suspect, a local man, was found to have 14 prior criminal records involving drugs and violent offences. He is currently remanded for seven days until next Thursday, with the case being investigated under Section 307 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant, as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Speaking to reporters after visiting the injured officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today, Ayob Khan said Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman of the Pudu police station is in stable condition. "He suffered injuries to the small intestine, with the stab wound about three centimetres wide and seven centimetres deep. Fortunately, it did not hit any vital organs," he said. The officer is now under medical supervision, able to speak but still in pain due to surgery. "God willing, he is expected to recover within one to two weeks," Ayob Khan added. Also present during the visit were Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Ayob Khan said police are constantly reviewing their standard operating procedures (SOP), including the need for body cameras among field personnel. At the time of the incident, Mohd Nadzri was not wearing a body camera, although he was on patrol with a colleague. "We have proposed that all personnel, especially those in the Motorcycle Patrol Unit and Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit, be equipped with body cameras," he said. Under phase one, a total of 7,648 body cameras have been distributed nationwide. Another 10,000 units are expected to be delivered in the second phase. - Bernama
