My girlfriend says she's in Witness Protection due to a bombshell past
That's what this week's reader is trying to figure out. His girlfriend has told him stories of abuse, cancer, living under a fake name, and even claimed to be homeless at one point.
It seems like every week there's a new drama. His friends are urging him to face the fact that her tales might not be true. But he's clinging onto the hope that she's an honest person.
Read the advice below, but before you go, make sure to read last week's dilemma, where a reader found out her husband is cheating – despite her doing everything for him.
For the last 16 months I've been 'seeing' a gorgeous girl I'm really keen on, who lives the other end of the country. We met when she was in my town on business and immediately hit it off.
We message and facetime frequently, but our relationship is mostly on-line. This has been complicated by the fact that she has regular cancer treatment, so is often not available to talk to me or see me, as her treatment is tiring and debilitating.
Bit by bit she has told me her backstory, which is horrific – if it's true. She told me she was abused by a paedophile ring as a child, with the full cooperation of her mother. She has since testified against the perpetrators and as a result of that, she's in the Witness Protection Programme, which means she can only tell me her 'new' name, not her real birth name.
She also told me she has a young son but he's had to go into care, because she ended up living in her car when a previous boyfriend kicked her out (he was cheating) and that her son has been abused in the care home. She also told me that his best friend had died by suicide. I could go on.

It feels like every time I talk to her there's another drama. She has stressed multiple times that everything she tells me is confidential, but I've confided in a few friends who think it's all fantasy nonsense.
So far, she hasn't asked me for any money, and I really want to believe that she's a truthful and honest person. It's just the regularity of the bad news that has me asking questions.
I've had to edit your email as it was so long and full of your girlfriend's breathtaking stories, it would have taken up at least three of my columns in its full form.
I hate to be cynical, but the sheer volume of terrible things that have befallen this woman leave me in no doubt that your friends are right with their description of 'fantasy nonsense'.
Let's just examine a couple of things she's told you, beginning with the fact that she's supposedly in the Witness Protection Programme – and yet has willingly shared this highly confidential information. Does that ring true to you? By the way, in this country it's referred to as the UK Protected Persons Service (UKPPS), so I wonder whether she's just been watching too many American detective films.
Then there's the story about her living in her car, while she supposedly has cancer. There is so much support for cancer sufferers in this country, I find this tale impossible to believe. Anyway, where were her UKPPS support workers in her hour of need?
Fantasists like this are rare and you've been unlucky, but you've been gullible too. Maybe you are so desperate for commitment that you've slightly lost sight of common sense.
You say she hasn't asked you for money, but she might eventually; on the other hand, it may just be about power, and the 'fun' of manipulating your emotions. More Trending
My advice is to end things with her and look for a real relationship with someone who lives closer.
Adopt a more sceptical approach next time you hear wild stories, and listen to your friends. They have your best interests at heart.

Simon Cowell 'has never been more angry' after treatment on Celebrity SAS
Simon Cowell was left less than impressed after he was hung up on while trying to give Lucy Spraggan words of encouragement during her stint on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. Last week former X Factor star Lucy, 34, was officially revealed as one of the famous faces who'd signed up to be put through their paces and undergo a course replicating the UK Special Forces selection course. Since the show began in 2015, there has also been six celebrity spin-off series', with the line-up of the upcoming season also including Love Island's Tasha Ghouri, The Traitors' Harry Clark, S Club's Hannah Spearritt and former glamour model Rebecca Loos. Speaking ahead of the premiere Lucy said she was determined to 'make it all the way to the end'. However, she's also detailed how X Factor creator Simon Cowell, who walked her down the aisle during her wedding last year, was left fuming while playing a role on the show. Despite Simon not being a recruit, he appears in the show when he calls Lucy to try and help motivate her. 'The DS [directing staff] hung up on him and he was like, 'I've never been so angry',' she shared when speaking to The Sun. In the interview Lucy also said the 65-year-old considered appearing on the show himself, but she was worried he'd 'die'. 'He thought it was a great idea, me doing the show. He knows I love being outdoors. We do a lot of shooting air rifles and stuff together, so he knows this is my thing, testing my mental resilience,' she said. 'It was just funny because he had said, 'Oh, maybe I'll try and have a go at it'. 'I was like, 'Simon, you would literally die!'. It was funny because it really contextualised how hard it was that I just straight away said to him, 'You would have no chance'.' However, Lucy said she thinks his wife Lauren Silverman, 48, could do it and 'should have a go'. Last year Simon spoke about his relationship with Lucy, saying that it 'feels like we've been friends for life'. Meanwhile Lucy said that 'everything people get from their fathers, I get from Simon', also calling Simon and his Lauren a 'constant support'. Speaking about appearing on Celebrity SAS, Lucy has said she hopes she 'has the mental grit to get to the end of the course'. 'I have been through quite a lot in my life, and I've done a lot of work to navigate what that left behind, and I really hope that I can apply it to the course, and make it all the way to the end,' she continued. 'I've learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I'm excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is just the end of the beginning. Who is Hayley in EastEnders and what happened to her?
Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) has told a multitude of lies to cover his tracks in EastEnders – with wife Kat (Jessie Wallace) currently believing that he's been searching for former Albert Square resident Hayley Slater. As we all know, he's actually been on the lookout for Kat's estranged daughter Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), who fled London for Barcelona after telling him that she'd done something 'so bad' that her family would disown her. Initially saying that he was in Australia visiting brother Spencer (Christopher Parker), the fib unravelled and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) was forced to cover again. She said that Alfie had suffered a cancer scare, and was in Spain trying to clear his head. However, in the last week, he reached out to Stace' to ask for €50,000 in order to pay off some dodgy fellas that had information on Zoe. She initially agreed, but was full of regret after promising the cash to Kat, who planned to use it as a deposit on The Queen Vic. Stacey's mum Jean (Gillian Wright) got wind of something suspicious happening, and assumed that the money was actually going to go to Hayley and her daughter Cherry. Stacey changed her mind on handing over the dough to Alfie, realising that it would be better spent by Kat. But as she set up home behind the bar, Jean dropped Hayley into conversation, and Kat was left furious. But who is Hayley, and what does she have to do with Alfie? Hayley Slater, played by actress Katie Jarvis, is the first cousin of Stacey. This makes her a distant cousin of Kat. She arrived in Walford in 2018, concealing a pregnancy from her family. It soon transpired that the father of the child was none other than Alfie! He told her that his heart was still with Kat, and he didn't want to have her child. After arranging an appointment at an abortion clinic, she got drunk and forgot to attend. Later, she went into labour and decided to drive herself out of the area in her uncle Charlie's (Derek Martin) taxi. The vehicle broke down and she was forced to give birth in a drug den. Shortly afterwards, Alfie reunited with Kat and was stunned to learn that she hadn't aborted her pregnancy after all. Her child was his daughter. They named her Cherry after his late mum. Hayley decided to leave when Stacey discovered Cherry's paternity and saw her kissing Alfie. She left a lock of the child's hair with Alfie, which was later discovered by Kat.
