Goa gets 50 inches of rainfall this season as monsoon stays weak
Panaji: Goa received 50 inches of rainfall so far this season, reaching the milestone within 40 days. A total of 1,271.2mm of average rainfall was recorded in Goa from June 1 until 8.30 am on Friday. 'Monsoon has been generally weak except for a couple of extreme rainfall events in June and July. There is a deficit in monsoon this season by 1% compared to the all-India excess, which is at 12%,' said meteorologist and retired NIO scientist Ramesh Kumar. 'Even though the onset was in May this year, the monsoon has not been up to the mark. In July especially, except for July 2, the monsoon season has been weak to normal over Goa,' he said. The IMD has also cautioned that squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60kmph, is expected to prevail over many parts of the South Maharashtra–Goa coast from July 13 to 15. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the affected coastal areas during this period due to rough sea conditions and the risk of strong winds.

While most regions have witnessed dry conditions, light and scattered rainfall was reported in select areas over the past two days. In Patna, the Ganga's water level has shown a rise at key points including Maner, Digha Ghat and Hathidah. At Digha Ghat, the river, which typically flows at 40 meters, the water level was recorded at 47.30 meters. Officials confirmed the water currently remains below the danger mark of 50.45 meters. According to the bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated rainfall at one or two places are expected to occur for the next three days across the state, whereas moderate rainfall is likely to occur from Tuesday onwards in most of the areas. In Patna, Wednesday's rainfall has brought a slight dip in maximum temperatures. The maximum temperature is expected to hover from 34 to 36 degrees Celsius for the next three days here, and in the other southern districts of the state. The minimum temperature will range between 26-28 degrees Celsius. No major change in the maximum or minimum temperature is expected to occur for the next five days. New Delhi: The city witnessed light to moderate rain in several areas on Friday, though the base station at Safdarjung recorded just 1mm of rainfall till 5.30 p.m. The day began under an overcast sky but turned sunny by late afternoon, leading to a rise in humidity and a slight increase in temperature. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 33.2 degrees Celsius—two degrees below normal—up from 30.6 degrees Celsius, a day earlier. Humidity levels fluctuated between 68% and 95%, while winds blew at 5 km/h from the southwest. Meanwhile, Friday marked the 16th consecutive day of satisfactory air quality in the city.
