‘I swam towards it': Friend's emotional search for missing influencer
Mohammad Syahmi shows a photo of Tengku Nizaruddin who is feared missing.
MUAR - A desperate friend swam through murky waters to inspect a sunken car, only to confirm it belonged to missing influencer Ija Nizaruddin, intensifying efforts to locate him in Sungai Tui, Muar.
Muhammad Syahmi Mansur, 30, who has been close to Ija for years, recounted the moment he and several friends sprang into action after learning about Ija's disappearance on Monday night.
"We were told his car had gone missing, so that same night, nine friends and I searched for Ija based on the last known GPS location provided by his wife," he said.
Their night-long search stretched as far as Muar, but to no avail. It was not until the next day that a clue emerged.
'Coincidentally, a Rela officer told us they spotted a car in the river. When I took a closer look, I swam straight towards it.
'I saw the car accessory shop sticker belonging to Ija on the rear window and I was certain it was his car,' Syahmi said.
He added that the car windows were open and the doors unlocked, but murky water made it difficult to tell if Ija was inside.
'I tried diving and felt like there was something when I extended my foot, but I was not sure. I immediately informed the police and the fire department came to inspect,' he shared. Search and rescue operations at Sungai Tui involve both police and fire department personnel.
According to Syahmi, Ija had planned to drop off his car at a friend's workshop in Muar before visiting his younger brother, Tengku Abdul Aziz, in Bukit Kepong.
Syahmi also mentioned that Ija never had enemies.
'We have known each other for a long time, through thick and thin. Ija was always a very positive person.
'The last time I saw Ija was the previous Sunday and that night we managed to talk about shirts over the phone,' he said.
Syahmi hopes for Ija's safe discovery and prays the authorities find new leads.
Pagoh Fire and Rescue Station Operation Commander, Nor Alfatah Omar, confirmed his team responded to a call on Tuesday and found a Perodua Axia submerged in roughly two metres of river water.
Meanwhile, Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, confirmed that a full search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway.
'Police urge members of the public with any information related to the incident to come forward or contact the Muar District Police Headquarters (IPD) to assist in the investigation,' he said.

Policeman in crash that killed teen detained, cooperated fully
ALOR STAR: The policeman involved in the road crash that claimed the life of a teenager in Guar Chempedak has been detained and questioned. Kedah police chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said the policeman had fully cooperated with the investigation. He said the policeman had lodged a report immediately after the incident and has since been released on police bail after testing negative for drugs. "He reported the crash and fully submitted to the investigation process. Urine tests came back negative, and he has no prior disciplinary or integrity-related offences on record," Adzli told the New Straits Times. He stressed that the incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness and transparency. "If there had been any element of criminal intent or evidence that the policeman was under the influence, we would not have hesitated to take immediate and more serious action," he said. Adzli said the case, which was initially investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, has now been reclassified under Section 41(1) of the same act for causing death by dangerous driving following the victim's passing. "There is no question of preferential treatment or cover-up. The same legal processes apply to all, regardless of whether the suspect is a civilian or a policeman," he said. He added that the decision to suspend the policeman will be evaluated based on the progress of the investigation. "We are deeply saddened by the tragedy. A full and uncompromised investigation is ongoing, including an internal probe by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department," he said. The victim, 16-year-old Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's intensive care unit on Thursday after battling critical injuries for three days. He was hit by a Perodua Axia reportedly driven by the policeman at an intersection in Guar Chempedak on Monday.

Guar Chempedak crash: Parents hope for fair probe into teen's death
ALOR STAR: The parents of a Form Four student who died after being hit by a police officer's car have expressed hope that the investigation will be conducted fairly and transparently. Their son, Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, 16, a student at SMK Guar Chempedak, succumbed to his injuries at 9pm last Thursday at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's intensive care unit (ICU), three days after the accident. He had been riding a motorcycle when he was struck by a Perodua Axia driven by a policeman attached to the Yan district police headquarters. The incident occurred last Monday. His mother, Norliza Salleh, 44, said she and her ex-husband, Mohd Roshidi Alias, 44, are leaving the matter to the authorities, and hope the investigation will be conducted with integrity. Although a week has passed, Norliza, a nurse, said the pain of losing her second child remains indescribable. "On the night of the accident, he told me he was tired and asked for some money before I left for my night shift at Yan Hospital. "It was around 8.20pm. He held my hand and asked for money before we exchanged goodbyes. I told him to take care if he planned to go out, and he replied, 'Baik, Ibu.' Shortly after, at around 8.52pm, Norliza received a call from her mother, who was in tears as she informed her that Danial had been involved in an accident. "I had just arrived at work. Then an unknown number also called to inform me about the accident. Initially, I wanted to go straight to the scene, but I turned back when I was told he was being taken to Yan Hospital," she said. "I waited at the emergency unit and saw him being brought in. He was convulsing, probably due to head trauma. Blood was coming from his nose and mouth. It broke my heart. "I'm used to saving others in my job, but that night, seeing my child in that state just 30 minutes after I last saw him, was devastating. Norliza said her son was later transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star and admitted to the ICU, where he was pronounced dead three days later. She recalled that in the days leading up to the accident, her son had appeared withdrawn, which she assumed was due to his active involvement in school activities. "He was a kind boy who always offered help. When he heard that a friend's family member had died, he asked for some money to give as a donation. "He was diligent about his prayers and loved going to the mosque. I'm heartbroken. He even dreamed of flying on an aeroplane; his aunt had already booked him a ticket to Indonesia for next month. But he never got the chance. On Saturday, Kedah Police Chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah assured the public that the investigation into the incident would be carried out thoroughly and without compromise. He said an internal probe would also be conducted by the police's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department.
