People urged to cooperate to eradicate child labour
Speaking at the District Task Force Committee meeting held on this occasion, the Collector said that as part of the Anti-Child Labour Month, officials from the Labour, Police, voluntary organisations, and the Revenue department should conduct special drive inspections to identify child labourers until June 30.
He emphasised that employing children less than 14 years of age and adolescents between 14 and 18 years in hazardous work is a crime, according to the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act. He urged for public awareness campaigns about child laws. Collector Lakshmisha stated that if anyone identifies children or adolescents working as child labourers, they should inform the toll-free numbers: 100, 1098, and 1800 102 7222.

Mukhtar Ansari's son Umar Ansari arrested on cheating, forgery charges
The Ghazipur police have arrested Umar Ansari, the younger son of slain gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, late Sunday evening in a case of cheating and forgery, police said. Former MLA Mukhtar Ansari died inside the Banda district jail last year. According to the police, the property linked to Mukhtar Ansari was confiscated under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. A petition was later filed seeking its release. Police allege that Umar Ansari, in a pre-planned conspiracy to gain unlawful benefits, submitted forged documents in court by faking the signature of his mother, Afsa Ansari, who is a wanted accused carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. The police said that a case has been registered in the matter, and Umar Ansari has been taken into custody. Further legal proceedings are underway. The FIR was lodged on Sunday at Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur under various sections, including those related to cheating and forgery. Notably, Umar Ansari is also an accused in a separate case involving a controversial speech for which his elder brother, Abbas Ansari, was sentenced to two years in prison. Following the conviction, Abbas, then an MLA from Mau, lost his Vidhan Sabha membership. Umar's trial in that case is still pending.

Illegal gensets? Hostels in Greater Noida set to face pollution board's action
Noida: The principal bench (green) of the National Green Tribunal has given the UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) three weeks to inspect hostels and PG accommodations in Greater Noida and submit an action-taken report. This follows a Nov 2023 complaint about environmental violations, including groundwater exploitation. The tribunal closed the case after UPPCB confirmed notices had already been issued and action was underway. While disposing of the matter on Nov 6, 2023, the tribunal stated, "Since the action has already been initiated by the competent authority, therefore, at this stage, no further direction in the original application is required except directing the authorities to take appropriate action in accordance with the law and in pursuance of the notices already issued. If the proceedings in this regard are still pending, the regional officer, UPPCB Greater Noida, will conclude the same within six months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order and will file an action-taken report before the registrar general of the Tribunal.
