June GST collection up 6.2% YoY to ₹1.85 trillion, but dips from May, April
However, the June collections marked a decline when compared to the previous month. In May 2025, the Centre collected ₹2.01 trillion, while April witnessed a record-high GST revenue of ₹2.37 trillion.
According to official data, domestic transactions contributed approximately ₹1.38 trillion in gross revenue in June, marking a 4.6 per cent increase over the same period last year. Revenue generated from imports also saw an upswing, growing by 11.4 per cent to reach ₹45,690 crore.
Breakdown:
Central GST (CGST): ₹34,558 crore,
State GST (SGST): ₹43,268 crore
Integrated GST (IGST): ₹93,280 crore.
Revenue from cess: ₹13,491 crore
Meanwhile, total refunds issued during the month rose significantly—by 28.4 per cent y-o-y—to ₹25,491 crore, reported PTI.
The net GST revenue after refunds was approximately ₹1.59 trillion, representing a 3.3 per cent increase compared to June last year.
Reacting to GST collections, Pratik Jain, partner PwC said that it indicates a softening of demand and cautious outlook.
'Around 6 per cent growth in GST collections, coupled with less than 4 per cent growth in advance tax collection for first quarter of FY 26 does indicate softening of demand and cautious outlook. One of the reasons could be conservative spending by the consumers which may improve in next couple of months with overall geopolitical situation improving," Jain said.

GST Day celebrated in the city
Sridharan Rangarajan, Managing Director of Carborandum Universal Limited (CUMI) said the country having a federal structure, the Goods and Service Tax (GST) regime has been able to achieve 'one nation, one tax' promise which even the U.S. has not been able to achieve as also the digitisation in the form of e-invoicing of tax receipts which has become a role model similar to China. Mr. Rangarajan was participating in the GST Day 2025 celebration organised by Central GST Tamilnadu and Puducherry zone in the city on Tuesday. However Mr. Rangarajan citing the country having overcome the implementation stage of the GST, a short list of tax rates with short list of exemptions like Australia would foster easier compliance and enhance ease of doing business. At present the country has four main tax slabs which adds to the complexity of the tax regime as also the need for bringing under GST both the oil and electricity sectors. He also wanted the Central government to go for strategic reform in GST to over one the operational challenges in the age of digital disruptions and new age business models along with operationalising the tribunals. Ram Niwas, Principal Chief Commissioner of CGST of Tamilnadu and Puducherry zone, said the GST Council has helped in bringing the Central and States together in rationalising the tax regime. While the GST has been successfully implemented one of the serious issues which the officials have come across during audits is the fake input tax credit (ITC) where more than ₹1 lakh crore fake ITC has been detected with hardly 5% recovery done from these fake ITCs. Mr. Niwas also highlighted the need for preventing revenue leakages. A.R.S. Kumar, Principal Chief Commissioner of CGST and Central Excise of Tamilnadu and Puducherry zone, also spoke on the occasion.

India-US Trade Talks In Advanced Stage, Agricultural Products A Hurdle: Official
New Delhi: The India-US trade negotiations are at an advanced stage and a consensus on an interim deal is within reach, a key official told NDTV on Tuesday, adding that Washington's demands on agricultural products are proving to be a hurdle. Indo-American Chamber of Commerce Executive Council Member Sunil Jain spoke to the channel on Tuesday, a day after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was reported as having said that agriculture and dairy are "big red lines" for India in the trade talks. "The deal has progressed a lot and the chief negotiators of India are extending their stay in the US and trying to complete the deal. I think the two areas where the deal is getting stuck are related to agricultural products. Agriculture is the lifeline of the Indian GDP and Indian people. It is very difficult for us to import agricultural products. There are many difficulties and sensitivities involved," Mr Jain said in Hindi. "The second thing is that the products the US sells to us are genetically modified products, which are banned in India. Till date, no law has been enacted in India to allow these products. So, it is very difficult for us to import maize, cotton, soya, almonds, apples, etc. The US is telling us to make a deal on these products," he added. The negotiations between India and the US entered the sixth day in Washington on Tuesday. The Indian team, headed by Rajesh Agrawal, special secretary in the Department of Commerce, was initially scheduled to stay for two days. The extension is important because US President Donald Trump's 26% reciprocal tariffs had been suspended for 90 days till July 9. The baseline tariffs of 10%, though, are still in place. "I think both countries can keep this obstacle aside and move forward with other products. For the US, exports of auto components, aluminium and steel from India are a problem. I think we should make a deal and keep some products out of it... We can debate and come to an agreement on these products after three to four months," he said. If this can be worked out, the executive council member said, a large part of India's exports to the US will be saved from the reciprocal tariffs, but the base tariff of 10% is likely to remain. "The zero tariff trade will be settled only after September-October. But, even if we work with 10% as the base tariff, it is fine for the country... If there is any bilateral trade agreement, it will have to involve give and take. So, we will move forward and America will move forward. Both are the largest democracies in the world and they will have to move together," Mr Jain said.
