India, fastest-growing major economy, a key global voice on climate, digital innovation: PM Modi

India Gazette09-06-2025
New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted India's rapid transformation across sectors, driven by the NDA Government's focus on good governance and inclusive growth.
PM Modi credited the progress to the collective participation of 140 crore Indians and emphasised India's rise as the fastest-growing major economy and a global leader in climate action and digital innovation.
In a post on X, PM Modi emphasised the NDA Government's clear focus on good governance and transformation.
'A clear focus on good governance and transformation! Powered by the blessings and collective participation of 140 crore Indians, India has witnessed rapid transformations across diverse sectors. Guided by the principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas', the NDA Government has delivered speed, scale and sensitivity pathbreaking changes. From economic growth to social upliftment, the focus has been on people-centric, inclusive and all-around progress,' PM said on X.
PM Modi said India is the fastest-growing major economy and a key player in global climate action and digital innovation.
The post added, 'India today is not just the fastest-growing major economy, but also a key global voice on pressing issues like climate action and digital innovation. We are proud of our collective success but at the same time, we look ahead with hope, confidence and a renewed resolve to build a Viksit Bharat!.'
Recently, the Union government released an e-book highlighting its achievements across various sectors over the last 11 years. The year 2025 marks 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. The book said that these 11 years have been dedicated to bringing about development that is inclusive, progressive, and sustainable.
'The government under Prime Minister Modi has been steadfast in its commitment to creating equity and opportunity for all citizens,' it added.'PM Modi has brought the politics of development - Vikasvaad - into the mainstream, making it the focal point around which political discourse and policy action now revolve,' it reads.
The book said that since assuming office in 2014, PM Modi has remained firm in his resolve to keep 'India First' in every policy formulation and action. It added that the resolve is evident in the government's handling of both external and internal security, economic management, empowerment schemes for marginalised groups, efforts at cultural conservation and so on.
Earlier, it was reported that in a matter of just less than three years, India has taken another stride, pipping Japan to become the fourth-largest economic powerhouse. In September 2022, India had surpassed the UK to become the fifth-largest economy.
Addressing a press conference of the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting on 'Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat 2047', NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) BVR Subrahmanyam said that India has overtaken Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy. This is a proud moment for the country and India's position would strengthen further in the coming years, on the back of prospects of higher economic growth.
Citing data from the International Monetary Fund, the CEO of India's apex think tank stated that India's economy has reached the USD 4 trillion mark.' We are the fourth largest economy as I speak. We are a USD 4 trillion economy, and this is not my data; this is IMF data. India today is larger than Japan. It's only the United States, China, and Germany which are larger, and if we stick to, you know, what is being planned, what is being thought through, it's a matter of another 2.0-2.5 to 3 years; we would become the third largest economy,' said BVR Subrahmanyam.
According to the IMF's April edition of the World Economic Outlook report, India's nominal GDP for fiscal 2026 is expected to reach around USD 4.187 trillion. This is marginally more than Japan's likely GDP, which is estimated at USD 4.186 billion.
The international financial institution projects that India will remain the fastest-growing major economy over the next two years. India's economy is expected to grow by 6.2 per cent in 2025 and 6.3 per cent in 2026, maintaining a solid lead over global and regional peers, the April 2025 edition of the IMF's World Economic Outlook had said.
India is among the fastest-growing major economies and is projected to remain so over the next few years, as many global agencies have anticipated. Even as India has overtaken Japan in terms of the size of the economy, the per capita income in India remains very low. (ANI)

Indian Embassy issues travel advisory amid clashes at Cambodia-Thailand border

Phnom Penh: The Indian Embassy in Cambodia on Saturday advised Indians to avoid travelling to the border areas due to the ongoing clashes between Thailand and Cambodia at the border. It has also asked Indians to contact the embassy in case of any emergency. In a statement released on X, the Indian Embassy in Cambodia stated, "In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas. In case of any emergency, Indian nationals may approach the Embassy of India, Phnom Penh at +855 92881676 or email [email protected]." On Saturday, a Cambodian defence spokesperson said that at least 13 people have died and 71 others were injured in Cambodia in border clashes. As per Thai media, the border clashes began for the third day on Saturday after the Cambodian side opened fire at Thai soldiers. The Indian Embassy's advisory came as tensions remained high along the Thailand-Cambodia border in recent weeks. The militaries of both nations started fighting on Thursday, causing casualties on each side. While addressing a press briefing, Cambodian Defence Ministry's Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson Maly Socheata said, "Five Cambodian soldiers were killed and 21 others were wounded." Socheata said, "Also, eight civilians died and 50 others were injured in Oddar Meanchey province," Xinhua News Agency reported. The Cambodian Ministry of National Defence said the Thai army on Saturday expanded its military attacks to another Cambodian province, Pursat. According to the Thai Public Broadcasting Service, the border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia began for the third day on Saturday after the Cambodian troops opened fire against Thai soldiers in Trat province, and the Thai side responded. In response to Cambodia's new attack, the Thai Navy has launched "Trat Strike 1" operation and has successfully pushed back the Cambodian incursion at three key points, according to the Thai Ministry of Defence spokesperson's office statement on Saturday. The Thai Navy has dispatched a task force of four vessels to support the operation in Trat and provide fire support to ground forces, the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand reported on Saturday. Earlier on Friday, the Indian Embassy in Thailand issued a travel advisory urging Indian tourists to remain vigilant and stay updated through official Thai sources, including the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) newsroom. 'In view of the situation near the Thailand-Cambodia border, all Indian travellers to Thailand are advised to check updates from Thai official sources, including TAT Newsroom. As per the Tourism Authority of Thailand, places mentioned in the following link are not recommended for travelling,' Embassy of India in Thailand posted on X.

Feel Sad Supporting…: Chirag Paswan Slams Nitish Govt Over Law And Order

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, saying he is saddened to support a government that is unable to curb murders, kidnappings, loot, robbery, and rape. Paswan further lashed out at the Nitish government in Bihar, saying that the way crime is happening in Bihar, it seems as if the administration is completely incapable of stopping these incidents. "I feel sad that I am supporting such a government here... The way murders, kidnappings, looting, robbery, rapes have taken place one after the other in Bihar, and now it seems as if the administration is completely incapable of stopping these incidents. If it continues like this, then it will create a very frightening situation in our state,' Paswan said. Paswan's remark came after a 26-year-old woman participating in a Home Guard recruitment test on July 24 in Gaya was allegedly gang-raped inside an ambulance while being taken to a hospital after she collapsed during a physical test. The LJP (Ram Vilas) president, part of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), said that it seems the Bihar government has "completely bowed down" in front of criminals, referencing a retired health department official being shot at by unknown assailants in Gaya district. He said that if such incidents aren't curtailed, then it will create a frightening situation in the state. "The way there have been criminal incidents one after another, and the way the government has bowed its head down in front of criminals. It is true that the incident is as condemnable as it is embarrassing, and an arrest also happened. But why are such incidents like murder, loot, dacoity, rape, one after another, happening in Bihar? It looks like the government is totally unsuccessful in curtailing these incidents. If this keeps going on, then it will create a very frightening situation in our state," Paswan said. Earlier this month, Chirag attacked the Nitish-led state government over the law and order situation, saying that 'the morale of the criminals were at its highest in the state. "In Biharsharif, Nalanda, criminals brutally murdered 16-year-old Himanshu Paswan and 20-year-old Anu Kumar by shooting them. This incident is extremely unfortunate and condemnable. This heinous event not only shakes humanity but also shows that law and order in Bihar have completely collapsed. Crime in the state is at its peak, and the fact that such an incident was carried out by criminals in the home district of the honourable Chief Minister clearly indicates that the morale of criminals is at its highest," Paswan said in a post on X.
