PGTI meet in Mohali: Chandigarh's Umed lifts title in professional debut
Kumar (61-66-63), who is 24-year-old, was two shots behind the lead in second place after round two, totaled even-par 190 for the week as he triumphed with a three-shot margin.
Kumar, who hails from the SEPTA golf course in Chandimandir and also has playing rights at the Forest Hill Golf and Country Club and the Panchkula Golf Club, earned a winning cheque worth ₹2,54,300 that placed him sixth in the PGTI Order of Merit.
Bengaluru's Mari Muthu R (61-64-68), the overnight leader, signed for a six-over 68 to finish runner-up at a total of three-over 193.
Kolkata's Irfan Ali Mollah (63) finished third with a total of five-over 195.
The Forest Hill Golf and Country Club is a nine-hole course where the nine holes are played twice to comprise a round. In the first two rounds, the par for the course was 64, while in the third and last round, the par for the course was changed to 62.
Kumar, who was the winner of two titles on the amateur tour prior to turning pro, was rock-solid on day three as he conceded just one bogey on the 12th and made pars on all other holes. His par-saves with two-putts from 30 feet on the last two holes were the highlight of his round.
He said, 'I'm delighted to have won my very first tournament as a professional. It's a big confidence-booster for my professional career. I just stuck to the basics this week and hit a lot of fairways and greens. My chipping and putting were also exceptional. I made some very crucial par-saves on the last two holes, thanks to my solid putting that saw me home.'
He added, 'I thank BS Gill, president of the Forest Hill Golf and Country Club, who has been a great source of support. I would also like to thank my home course, SEPTA, Chandimandir, as well as the Panchkula Golf Club, for supporting me.'
Muthu R made one birdie, five bogeys and a double-bogey during his last round of 68 to finish second.
Lucknow's Rajesh Kumar Gautam continues to lead the 2025 PGTI Order of Merit with season's earnings of ₹4,29,600.

New Delhi, Jul 13 (PTI) Seasoned Indian steeplechaser Avinash Sable sustained a minor injury due to a nasty fall during the Monaco Diamond League two days back but he will be all right in quick time, his long-time coach Amrish Kumar said on Sunday. Asian Games champion and national record holder Sable failed to finish the men's 3000m steeplechase event on Friday as he fell down during the water jump early in the race. He was seen clutching his lower thigh area just at the back of the knee as he left the race. "Sable has suffered a minor injury around the knee. He will take rest and he should be all right in one or two weeks at the maximum. It is not much to worry about," Kumar, who is with the Army Sports Institute in Pune, told PTI. "He (Sable) was trying to protect the runner ahead of him and who just jumped over the water barrier. While doing that, he himself fell, this kind of things happen in a race," he added. The athlete ahead of him lost balance and went down, causing Sable to stumble as well. It was Kumar who spotted Sable after he joined the Indian Army in 2012. Kumar made Sable shift to steeplechase from cross country run in 2017 and nurtured him into a top athlete.. With just one point from three DL meetings this season, it will be difficult for the 30-year-old Sable to make it to the DL Finals on August 27-28 in Zurich, Switzerland. Sable, whose national record stands at 8 minute 09.91 seconds, finished 13th in the Xiamen DL on April 16, was eighth in Keqiao -- also in China -- before a DNF in Monaco on Friday. The last DL meeting which has men's 3000m steeplechase in the roster is in Brussels on August 22. On Friday, the sports ministry has approved Sable's training in Colorado Springs, USA from July 15 to September 3 to prepare for the World Championships (September 13-21) in Tokyo for which he has already qualified.

MSD likely to become J'khand tourism's brand ambassador
Ranchi: Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to become the brand ambassador of Jharkhand tourism. The state govt has approached the global cricket icon to take up the role. However, a confirmation is awaited from his side. If the deal is inked, local boy Dhoni will become the first ambassador of state's tourism ever since Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in the year 2000. The development came to light after Dhoni met state tourism minister Sudivya Kumar at his govt bungalow in the city on Saturday. Department officials said the discussion revolved around giving a strategic push to sports and tourism infrastructure in Jharkhand with Dhoni's active involvement. Tourism secretary Manoj Kumar on Saturday said a MoU is awaited from Dhoni's side. "Once we get his full consent, we will assess the legal formalities and proceed to designate him as brand ambassador. The idea is that he would promote key destinations through digital campaigns, videos, or social media posts.
