BREAKING NEWS Pokemon star James Carter Cathcart dead at 71 as heartbreaking tributes for voice actor pour in
James Carter Cathcart, also known as Jimmy Zoppi, passed away in hospice care in Forest Hills, New York - two years after he was diagnosed with throat cancer, a family member told TMZ.
On Pokémon he was the voice of characters including Professor Oak, Meowth, Gary Oak and James from Team Rocket.
He voiced Vector the Crocodile in Sonic X and the Shadow the Hedgehog video game.
Cathcart underwent aggressive chemotherapy after he didn't respond well to initial treatments.
His cancer forced him to retire from voice acting after finishing his work the English dub of Pokémon: Ultimate Journeys. in 2023.
Fellow Sonic icon Erica Schroeder paid heartbreaking tribute to Cathcart, writing: 'Rest in peace dear sweet man. I will miss you.
'The community will miss you. The world will miss you.
'One of the most joyful, exuberant, kind-hearted and talented souls no longer walks with us.
'James Carter Cathcart you were one of a kind, a gentle, beautiful, playful genius and I was happy to call you my friend.
'Master of the pen, piano and microphone. Friend to many.
'Loving father and husband. Thank you for your gifts.'
As well as voice acting, Cathcart released two albums in 1979-1980 with his band, The Laughing Dogs.
He was also lead vocalist in the Carter Cathcart Band since 1981.
He co-wrote the song Remember Me with Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley which featured on Frehley's 1989 solo album Trouble Walkin'.
He also provided voiceover work for ABC Weekend Special. After that, Kit Kat and Coors Light.

Many dog owners enjoy snuggling up on the sofa to watch their favourite TV show with their pet. But if the remote was in your dog's paw, what would it choose to watch? According to scientists from Auburn University in Alabama, the answer is probably something featuring animals. In a new study, the researchers surveyed more than 450 dog owners about their pets' viewing habits. The results revealed that almost half (45 per cent) of the dogs reacted when they saw an animal on TV. In particular, the pooches took note when they spotted another dog barking or howling on screen. So, if you want to give your dog the ultimate movie night, it's best to stick on something like Bluey, Scooby Doo, or Crufts. 'Companion dogs experience a meaningful, object-filled world when they view television,' the researchers said. While most dogs are regularly exposed to televisions, their preferences for content have remained unclear until now. Writing in their study, published in Scientific Reports, the research team, led by Lane Montgomery, wrote: 'Because companion dogs are regularly exposed to televisions, it is pertinent to understand how dogs behaviorally respond to and interpret these types of stimuli from a welfare perspective.' To get to the bottom of it, the researchers recruited 453 owners, whose dogs ranged in age from two months to 16 years old. The participants were surveyed about their dogs' TV viewing habits. This included whether the owner tried to teach the dog to watch TV, the average number of hours per week the owner's TV is switched on, and the average number of seconds the dog pays attention to the TV. An analysis of the results revealed that on average, the dogs watched TV for 14 minutes and eight seconds in any one sitting. Other animals were the dogs' favourite thing to watch, with 45 per cent responding to animal content such as barking or howling. The researchers also found that the dogs' personalities influenced their viewing preferences. Dogs reported by their owners as excitable were more likely to follow objects on-screen - for example during tennis or football matches. Meanwhile, fearful or anxious dogs were more likely to respond to non-animal stimuli on screen, such as car horns or doorbells. 'The results suggested that dogs respond to television stimuli based upon both categories of stimuli (i.e., animal, non-animal) and upon types of behavior (i.e., behavior that suggests attendance to the stimuli versus behavior that suggests some expectation of the movements of the stimuli),' the researchers wrote. 'In addition, individual differences in temperament impacted the types of stimuli that dogs engaged with.' While the study might seem light-hearted, the researchers say the findings could have important implications. 'These temperament differences could inform training approaches to rectify problem behaviours towards TVs,' they concluded. WHAT ARE THE TEN COMMONLY HELD MYTHS ABOUT DOGS? Kristin Cabot, Chief People Officer at Astronomer, was left red-faced as she flashed up on a big screen in front of thousands while the tech firm's CEO cuddled her. 6 6 6 Married Andy Byron dived to hide behind a barrier, while Cabot covered her face with her hands and turned her back to the crowd. The pair were watching Coldplay perform in Boston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday night when frontman Chris Martin panned his 'kiss cam' onto them. Yellow singer Martin exclaimed: "Oh look at these two." But, realising their grinning faces were being cast on a giant screen in front of thousands at Gillette Stadium, they both swiftly unlocked arms and shielded their faces. As a chorus of laughter echoed around the jam-packed stadium, Martin said: "Oh what... either they're having an affair or they're very shy." Cabot was recruited as software development firm Astronomer's Chief People Officer just nine months ago in November. On her LinkedIn, she boasts: "I lead by example and win trust with employees of all levels, from CEOs to managers to assistants." Cabot - who has the second surname Thornby in brackets on her page - adds: "I'm a passionate people leader known for building award-winning cultures from the ground up for fast-growing startups and multi-national corporations." When Calbot was appointed in November, Byron released a gushing comment praising her "exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management". The cringeworthy footage has gone viral on social media - having been shared thousands of times on X and TikTok. Hundreds have accused Byron of cheating on his wife, and have shared support for her. One social media user commented: "Sorry for the wife but glad they're being exposed and embarrassed." Another wrote: "How utterly sad." A third said: "They are both incredibly stupid, sorry. Why would you go to a concert of all places if you are having an affair." Byron and Cabot do not appear to have addressed the affair accusations yet. Shane Gillis 'didn't even try to make clever jokes about women athletes' during his viral ESPYs monologue, former ESPN personality Sarah Spain has fumed. Gillis, 37, was tasked with hosting ESPN's annual sports awards ceremony on Wednesday night, giving him the opportunity to mock a number of sports stars, some of whom were in attendance at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Among the comedian's victims were Shedeur Sanders, Aaron Rodgers, Bill Belichick, Jake Paul and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, while he also ventured outside of sports by making jokes about Donald Trump and disgraced late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He also trolled a number of women on the night; taking aim at the likes of Megan Rapinoe, Simone Biles, Caitlin Clark and the WNBA as a whole. 'Megan Rapinoe could not make it tonight... nice,' Gillis said about the former USWNT soccer captain before adding . 'No? We're gonna pretend she's a good time? Alright.' The actor and comic also mocked 4ft 8in Olympic gymnast Biles over her height and the WNBA over its lesser-known players while saying about Clark: 'When Caitlin Clark retires from the WNBA, she's going to work at a Waffle House so she can continue doing what she loves most: fist fighting Black women.' 'He won six Super Bowls. He is dating a hot 24-year-old. Maybe if you guys won six Super Bowls you wouldn't be sitting next to a fat ugly dog wife.' He then slightly backtracked as that harsh quip drew a stunned reaction from the crowd. 'They let me do it. This is Disney. They allowed that... Yeah, we should've taken that out,' Gillis said. 'I had doubts going into that. That didn't work all week.'
