Kelly Clarkson's mother-daughter duet dazzles fans at Las Vegas residency

USA Today5 days ago
Kelly Clarkson is doing Vegas her own way.
The talk show host and pop sensation, who is midway through a highly anticipated residency on the strip, invited her daughter on stage during a recent performance for a rendition of "Heartbeat Song," a high-octane crowd pleaser off Clarkson's seventh studio album.
"Last night we had a very special guest, my daughter River Rose, joined us for Heartbeat Song. It's her favorite song!" Clarkson wrote on Instagram following the July 18 show. The post featured a photo of the pair touching foreheads on stage mid-song as a packed crowd looked on and captured videos.

River Rose, 11, is one of two children Clarkson shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, along with son Remington "Remy" Alexander, 9.
Clarkson, who recently returned to her NBC talk show after a prolonged absence, is enjoying early success in her Studio Sessions residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. An institution in Sin City, the Colosseum is getting the Clarkson treatment as she plays songs from her newest album and hits from her early days of pop stardom.

"Heartbeat Song," off her sentimental 2015 album "Piece by Piece," took on new meaning with River Rose as backup. In a fan video posted to YouTube, the mother-daughter pair, in matching graphic tees and bell-bottom pants, can be heard harmonizing.
River Rose, more timid at the beginning, follows Clarkson's lead and eventually joins in for a more boisterous performance.
After the song wrapped, Clarkson treated her daughter to a big hug and kiss on the cheek as the crowd applauded and River Rose disappeared into the wings.
Clarkson will continue to perform at the 4,100-capacity theater for shows scattered through July, August and November. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.
The "American Idol" alum said she would bring "the studio to the stage" when she announced the slate of shows and has delivered 10-fold with her trademark blend of down-to-Earth humor and out-of-this-world vocals, all while joking and jamming with her outstanding band that included dual drums, several guitars, horns and strings.
Fans of Clarkson's talk show will be treated to a rotating "Kellyoke" cover on the setlist. On opening weekend, she sang "I Will Always Love You" as sung by Whitney Houston and written by Dolly Parton, and Maneskin's cover of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons' "Beggin'."

Rob Lowe sent 'missing' milk cartons to 'West Wing' producers during on-set 'difficulties'

Lowe said "it's all good now," but it wasn't always. Has anyone seen Sam Seaborn? Rob Lowe, who played the idealistic deputy of communications at the White House on the first four seasons of NBC's acclaimed political drama The West Wing, asked that very question when he left the show as a regular cast member. Seaborn was been elected to office in California. "It's all good now, but there were some difficulties. At one point, they had sort of written me off the show. I didn't feel like I had a lot to do and so I made these," Lowe said, in a video on TikTok, as he held up a milk carton with a missing person ad for, yep, Seaborn. "I sent them to everbody affiliated with the show: the network, the studio, producers, executives." It was unclear if the recipients of his gift included costars, such as Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford, Richard Schiff, Janel Moloney, Dulé Hill, Joshua Malina, and the late John Spencer, in the drama about the inner workings of a Democratic administration. The show won an impressive 26 Emmys over the course of its seven-season run, between 1999 and 2006. While the carton bit is funny now, the prank came during a pretty tense situation. Lowe had signed onto the show, created by Aaron Sorkin, with the expectation that Seaborn would be the main character. It ended up being an ensemble. Lowe has also explained that he had felt "very undervalued" and, during an August 2023 appearance on Stitcher Studios' Podcrushed podcast, gave an example from seeing his adult sons grew up. They were "getting to a certain age where I could see them having first girlfriends and being in a relationship that was abusive and taking it," Lowe said. "'She's the popular girl, everybody likes her, she's beautiful, it must be great' — all the things that people would say about making The West Wing to me. 'It's so popular, it's so amazing, it must be amazing.' But I know what it's like, and if I couldn't walk away from it, then how could I empower my kids to walk away from it?" He called his decision to leave "the best thing I ever did." In his TikTok, Lowe said that these days he has "love" for the show and "everybody in it." Stephen Colbert Ratings Soar After ‘Late Show' Is Cancelled

Ratings for Stephen Colbert's "Late Show" shot up after CBS cancelled the program. Stephen Colbert ratings were already better than his rivals. But after The Late Show was unexpectedly cancelled by CBS, viewership for the show has shot up. Colbert's viewership rose by 81% following news of the cancellation. He far outpaced his rivals on ABC and NBC, according to data provided by Samba TV, which offers TV technology for audience data and omniscreen measurement. During the week of June 26, prior to CBS's surprise announcement when all three shows aired new episodes, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert held a solid lead with 755,000 U.S. households tuning in compared to 698,000 for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC and 672,000 for Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC. However, following the July 17 announcement, the first week of new shows (July 21-24) for The Late Show jumped to average 1 million households. That was far ahead of Fallon's 650,000 and Kimmel's 565,000. 'According to Samba TV data, Colbert consistently outpaced his late-night peers by 8% to 12%, and in the wake of the cancellation news, his viewership spiked by 81% as audiences tuned in for his response,' said Alyson Sprague, vice president of measurement products at Samba TV. Why Did Stephen Colbert Ratings Shoot Up? People tuned in presumably hoping to find out an answer to the big question everyone has been asking: Why was Stephen Colbert cancelled? CBS has said the decision was purely financial, claiming the show loses tens of millions of dollars. But since Colbert still wears the late-night crown and that still has value, many have speculated there were other reasons for the decision, namely Colbert's criticism of President Donald Trump and recently declaration that CBS's settlement of a lawsuit by Trump was essentially a bribe to get its parent company's merger through regulatory hoops. Colbert addressed all that and more on Monday's show, where he also welcomed a slew of special guests, including fellow hosts Fallon, Seth Meyers (NBC), Jon Stewart (Comedy Central), John Oliver (HBO/Max), Andy Cohen (Bravo) and Anderson Cooper (CNN). Weird Al Yankovic and Lin-Manuel Miranda also appeared but were 'cancelled' in the middle of their bit. Undoubtedly people wanted to see how Colbert would address the cancellation. He didn't avoid the topic or pretend the decision was anything more than absurd, and he showed a lot of grace. What Will Happen To Stephen Colbert Ratings Now? CBS has said Colbert will stay on the air until May. It's easy to imagine his viewership will continue to be strong until then, as the host now has no reason to censor his thoughts (not that he seemed to be doing that before—his comedy has always involved taking strong stances on issues). Ironically, in cancelling Colbert, CBS may have created something that's been lacking in late night since the Jay Leno-Conan O'Brien debacle more than a decade ago—a water cooler moment. Everyone wants to talk about what's going to happen next. Of course, for the longer term, former late-night leader Fallon should benefit. 'By pulling the plug on The Late Show, CBS may be forfeiting its late-night crown, with Fallon and NBC now positioned to take the lead,' said Sprague.
