Tipra Motha "goons" attacked Mann Ki Baat event, vandalised vehicles and injured BJP workers: BJP Mandal President
BJP Mandal President Jayanta Debbarma has claimed that over 50 Tipra Motha Party "goons" attacked a Mann Ki Baat event on Sunday in Tripura's Khowai district, injuring several party workers and damaging multiple vehicles. Debbarma accused the Tipra Motha Party of trying to instill fear and disrupt a peaceful community event held in honour of the Prime Minister's address.(Papan Das) The incident took place at booth number 30 in Asaram Bari while Prime Minister Narendra Modi's monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat was being broadcast. According to Debbarma, the attackers arrived armed with sharp weapons, lathis and rods, and began hurling bricks and bottles at BJP workers. "Over 50 goons of the Tipra Motha Party attacked and disrupted the program. They vandalised my vehicle and also attacked the owner of the house where the Mann Ki Baat program was organised. They also vandalised 15 bikes and several other vehicles," Debbarma told ANI. He added that six BJP workers sustained injuries, with some hit on the head, mouth, and chest. "Around six karyakartas sustained injuries to the head, mouth, and chest. They brought daos, lathis, rods, and other weapons to attack us," he said. Debbarma accused the Tipra Motha Party of trying to instill fear and disrupt a peaceful community event held in honour of the Prime Minister's address. The Tipra Motha Party is currently allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is led by Chief Minister Manik Saha, the ruling party in the state. Earlier this month, Tipra Motha Party Chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma raised concerns over Bangladeshi nationals allegedly buying tribal land in the northeastern state of Tripura, claiming that the state is losing "land inch by inch." While raising the issue of the alleged land sale, Pradyot Bikram hit out at both the Congress and the BJP, accusing certain people of doing politics for "short-term gains," while the state is losing land to outsiders. "I have just got documents today to prove a Bangladeshi national has purchased land in the tribal areas of Tripura, and the property was mutated in his name. I am aware that when I raise these issues, I am attacked by a few of my friends from Congress and also certain individuals who are today in the BJP for personal gains. Should I stay silent and see our state lose land inch by inch while people do politics of short-term gains?" he said.

PM given a rousing reception in Tiruchi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Tiruchi on Saturday night as part of his two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, was accorded a warm welcome from members of the public and cadres from the BJP and its allies on Sunday morning. As he travelled by car from a private star hotel on Collector's Office Road to the Tiruchi International Airport — a distance of 7.1 km — the Prime Minister waved at enthusiastic onlookers gathered on both sides of the road. Mr. Modi left for the airport from the hotel around 11.15 a.m. and the convoy passed through the Major Saravanan Roundabout, Bharathidasan Road, Head Post Office junction, TVS Tollgate, Subramaniyapuram, and Kottapattu before reaching the airport. Seated in the front, he waved at the public through the windshield. BJP and alliance party workers, including those from the AIADMK and Tamizhar Desam Katchi, assembled at key junctions along the route. The public too, gathered in considerable numbers, many showering flower petals on the convoy. Traditional percussion ensembles and artists dressed as Hindu deities—Shiva, Parvati, Murugan, Krishna, and Rama—added a cultural flavour to the welcome. Three major reception points were set up — at Bharathidasan Road near the Tiruchi Corporation Office, at Subramaniyapuram near the MGR statue, and near the Tiruchi International Airport — where party cadres and the public lined up to greet the Prime Minister. Steel barricades were installed at these key locations to manage crowds and ensure security. Banners, party flags, and placards from the BJP, the AIADMK, and Tamizhar Desam were placed along the medians and sidewalks, from the hotel to the airport. No other vehicles were allowed on this route during the Prime Minister's transit. All shops along the way were temporarily shut as a security measure and were reopened once the convoy passed. Traffic was diverted on alternative routes. Over 1,400 police personnel were deployed to ensure security along the entire stretch. The arrangements were supervised by top district and city police officials. Mr. Modi on returning to the city airport by helicopter from Gangaikonda Cholapuram, left for New Delhi by a special flight.

Should Tell Us…: Congress President Kharge On Jagdeep Dhankhars Resignation As Vice President
Congress President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Sunday said he was unaware of the reason behind Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's sudden resignation. He added that the details of the resignation were a matter between Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ANI quoted Kharge as saying, "I don't know anything because he was always in favour of the government. He should tell us what happened, because he never allowed us to discuss issues related to farmers, the poor, and foreign policy issues." "When we raised issues related to the poor, atrocities on women and Dalits, and whenever we raised Hindu-Muslim issues, he never allowed us, even though we gave notices. What happened and why he resigned is between him and PM Modi. They must tell," the senior Congress leader added. Jgadeep Dhankhar's Resignation Earlier this week, Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as Vice President of India 'to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice.' Dhankhar, who was also the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, sent his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu. 'To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution," the letter said. "I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency - the Hon'ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure,' his resignation read. The resignation came after the conclusion of the first day of the Parliament's 2025 monsoon session.
