Cruel vandals 'set fire' to Glasgow nursery garden devastating pupils

Rockfield Nursery say they are "saddened by the continued vandalism" to their nursery in Barmulloch.
Cruel vandals have "set fire" to a children's playhouse at a Glasgow nursery leaving pupils, parents and staff devastated.

Emergency crews raced to Rockfield Nursery on Rockfield Road, in Barmulloch, on Friday night at around 9.38pm after receiving reports of a fire.

Two appliances were sent to battle the blaze and left the scene at 10.12pm after working to make the area safe.

Police Scotland are understood to be investigating the alleged wilful fire. No one was injured in the incident.
A parent whose child attends the nursery told Glasgow Live: "They have set fire to the children's playhouse that had just recently been purchased for them. My child absolutely loved the playhouse and I know it was a very loved piece of garden equipment that cost the nursery a lot of money to buy.

"The garden is one of their biggest assets, all the children love it and they have put a lot of love and effort into it so it's such a shame that they are having to deal with this."
The nursery issued an update to parents on Sunday, July 20, saying "we are saddened by the continued vandalism to our nursery."
They added: "Our children will be devastated when they return on Tuesday, July 22.

"We urge the community to help us stop this. If you have any information that may help us, please contact the nursery.
"We are working with the police to try and resolve this matter."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 9.38pm on Friday, 18 July to reports of a fire in the open on Rockfield Road, Glasgow.
"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. Crews left the scene at 10.12pm after working to make the area safe."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 10pm on Friday, 18 July, 2025, we received a report of a fire and vandalism at a premises in the Rockfield Road area of Glasgow.

'Officers attended to assist the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the fire was extinguished. There were no injuries.
'The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.'

Greenpeace says activists arrested after ending Forth Road Bridge protest

The Forth Road Bridge outside of Edinburgh was closed on Friday after 10 Greenpeace activists suspended themselves from the structure in order to block the tanker, which was headed for the Ineos petrochemical plant at nearby Grangemouth. Police Scotland said it had been alerted to the protest shortly after 1pm on Friday. That was after the group suspended themselves from the bridge using ropes, ending up about 25 metres above the water level at high tide. On Saturday morning Greenpeace announced it had ended the demonstration, saying they had 'achieved what we set out to'. The campaign group said its demonstration had prevented the Ineos tanker from delivering the gas for a full 24 hours, saying that the vessel could only travel to Grangemouth during high tides. As a result the specially trained activists began climbing down their ropes early on Saturday morning. Greenpeace said all 10 had descended safely and were voluntarily transported to Port Edgar in South Queensferry, where it said they were arrested by officers from Police Scotland on suspicion of culpable and reckless conduct. Amy Cameron, programme director at Greenpeace UK said: 'We've achieved what we set out to. 'By blocking Ineos, we've drawn global attention to the company's bottomless appetite for plastic production, false solutions and profit for its billionaire boss Jim Ratcliffe.' The Forth Road Bridge is closed due to a protest reported to us around 1.05pm on Friday, 25 July. Officers are in attendance and engaging with those involved. Please avoid the area. — Police Scotland Fife (@PSOSFife) July 25, 2025 Describing the 'plastic pollution problem' as being 'massive', she added: 'Less than 10% of plastic is currently recycled globally, and this is set to rise to just 17% by 2060, while the amount of plastic we're producing is set to triple. 'The only solution is to address the problem at source which means securing a strong global plastics treaty that imposes legally-binding caps on plastic production.' Ms Cameron continued: 'Ineos are cutting jobs at Grangemouth while trying to open a massive new plastics plant in Belgium, leaving Scottish workers high and dry. 'If Jim Ratcliffe really cared about skilled jobs in Scotland he'd invest his billions in supporting his workers to transition into the green industries of the future, instead of throwing money at Formula 1 racing teams and football clubs.' Greenpeace insists its protest was safe and caused 'minimal disruption' – stressing that the climbers had spent weeks training for the demonstration, also pointing out that the Forth Road Bridge carries low volumes of bus, cycle and pedestrian traffic. Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.

Man wins £9k after Google captures him naked at home

A police officer whose backside was exposed to the world on Google Street View has won more than £9,000 in compensation. The Argentinean man was caught naked while a Google Street View car was taking images of his town in the province of Buenos Aires. The officer was on his patio when the vehicle whizzed by and snapped his behind – which was then uploaded online for billions of people to see. The red-faced man was awarded more than £9,000 in compensation after a fierce legal battle, with judges ruling Google had invaded his privacy. The cop claimed he had been standing behind a six-foot wall when he was pictured naked, but Google insisted it wasn't high enough. The first legal battle went Google's way, reports La Nacion. A judge ruled it was the police officer's fault because he was 'walking around in inappropriate conditions in the garden of his home'. They also decided that 'the only person able to identify who the naked person was, was the actual man'. The 'policeman shot himself in the foot' by his own action, the judge concluded. But appeal judges overturned this decision and ordered Google Argentina and Google LLC to pay the man a total of 16 million pesos – around £9,600. Judges decided that even though the police officer's face was not visible, his address could still be determined by the street numbers. They wrote: 'This involves an image of a person that was not captured in a public space but within the confines of their home, behind a fence taller than the average-sized person. The invasion of privacy… is blatant. 'There is no doubt that in this case there was an arbitrary intrusion into another's life'. They added that there was 'no justification for (Google) to evade responsibility for this serious error that involved an intrusion into the plaintiff's house, within his private domain, undermining his dignity. No one wants to appear exposed to the world as the day they were born.' The ruling comes after a number of experts advised people to blur their house on Google Street View. More Trending Security expert Will Geddes told Metro that criminals could use Google Maps to scope out properties and form plans to break in. He said: 'Blurring your house prevents anybody from getting any really specific information or intelligence on it.' Anyone looking to obscure their home on Street View needs to first find their property on the map. Then they can click 'Report a problem' in the lower right corner and fill out the relevant form.
