Jammu, Jul 27 (PTI) The State Investigation Agency (SIA) has filed its first chargesheet in a narco-terror case involving the seizure of 46 kg of heroin in Jammu and Punjab in August last year, exposing the role of Pakistan-based proscribed outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), an official said on Sunday.
Owing to the international dimensions and emerging terror linkages, the case was transferred to the SIA Jammu, and an investigation was taken up under the provisions of the NDPS Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The SIA filed its first chargesheet before the competent court in the case, with investigations unearthing critical evidence connecting Amritpal Singh to a Pakistan-based handler affiliated with the LeT, establishing a direct narco-terrorism linkage, the official said.
He said the breakthrough was achieved through meticulously employed technical, scientific and human intelligence.
'The chargesheet substantiates grave offences under the NDPS Act and UAPA against the accused duo and other involved individuals, the official said.
'This case marks a major success for law enforcement in the fight against narcotics-fuelled terrorism and highlights the continuing threat posed by transnational criminal-terrorist syndicates exploiting drug trafficking routes to fund and support terror activities in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and beyond,' he said. Tirunelveli city police have registered a case against an MBC youth and his parents, both sub-inspectors of police. The three accused have arrested and will be interrogated. Trusting him, Kavin went with Surjith on the latter's two-wheeler to Astalakshmi Nagar. However, Surjith allegedly pulled out a hidden sickle and began attacking Kavin, who attempted to flee. Surjith chased him down and hacked him to death. Police have registered a case against the SI couple and Surjith under various sections of the BNS and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Three terrorists killed in gunfight in Srinagar district, identification process underway
Srinagar: Three terrorists were cornered and killed in a gunfight with the security forces under 'Operation Mahadev' in the Dachigam area of J&K's Srinagar district on Monday, the army said. The three terrorists were killed in an intense gunfight with the security forces in the higher reaches of Dachigam National Park near the Mahadev peak in the Harwan area of Srinagar. "The operation is still going on in the area. The exact identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained," an army official said. The killings of the three terrorists came after an anti-terrorist operation was started on Monday by the security forces in the Dachigam National Park. "The anti-terrorist operation was started following Intelligence inputs. Reinforcements were rushed to the spot as the area is densely populated and the terrain under operation is tough," an official said. The Indian Army, J&K Police and the security forces have been launching aggressive anti-terrorist operations across the area targeting terrorists, Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and sympathisers of terrorism in order to totally dismantle the ecosystem of terror in the UT. Odisha Police rescues 28-day-old infant allegedly sold by parents
Bhubaneswar, Jul 28 (PTI) Police in Odisha's Bolangir district on Monday rescued a 28-day-old baby girl who was allegedly sold by her parents for Rs 20,000 due to extreme poverty, officials said. Police rescued the infant from the house of a couple at Paikamal in neighbouring Bargarh district and handed it over to the child welfare committee (CWC), Titlagarh sub-divisional police officer Kalyan Behera told PTI over the phone. She, however, said no one was detained or arrested in the case as there had been no formal complaint. Bolangir district CWC in-charge chairperson Lina Babu confirmed that the infant was rescued from the house of a couple at Paikmal. 'We have not started an inquiry into the matter as the infant's rescue was our priority. During the day, we will launch a probe and lodge a police," she said. According to sources, the alleged incident of child sale came to light on Sunday from Bagdera village under Bhaleigaon Panchayat in Titilagarh sub-division. A poverty-stricken couple, identified as Nila and Kanak Rana, has been accused of selling their newborn daughter for Rs 20,000, police said. However, the Paikmal couple denied allegations of purchasing the child, but claimed that they brought the baby keeping in view her biological parents' poverty. Officials said Nila and Kanak are both remarried. Nila has three daughters from his first wife, while Kanak has one daughter from her previous marriage. Citing financial distress, the Rana couple allegedly handed over the newborn to the other family. 'We have not sold her. We gave the baby for her better upbringing, not for money," Nila Rana told the CWC. In November 2024, police and CWC had rescued a newborn that was allegedly sold by her mother after her birth to a private hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
