(Reuters) -Botafogo have appointed Davide Ancelotti, the son of Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti, as their new manager, the Brazilian club announced on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old Ancelotti, who served as an assistant to his father at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and most recently Real Madrid, has signed a one-year contract with Botafogo. Ancelotti left Real at the end of last season along with his father.
Botafogo sacked manager Renato Paiva last week following their Club World Cup exit, despite Paiva guiding the side to a win over Champions League winners Paris St Germain earlier in the competition.
Paiva's team went out at the last-16 stage with a 1-0 loss after extra time to fellow Brazilian club Palmeiras, and the manager, after four months in the role, was shocked by the club's decision.

Financial details of the signing were not disclosed but British media reported the deal is worth about 27 million pounds ($36.68 million). The 22-year-old Barry played for France's under-21 team at this year's European Championship, where they reached the semi-finals. He joined Villarreal last year from Swiss club Basel, scoring 11 goals in 35 LaLiga appearances. "I had good conversations with the manager (David Moyes). He told me I have the quality to play in the Premier League ... For me, it is a dream to play in the Premier League," Barry said in a statement. "When the manager (Moyes) came last season, I think he changed a little bit the team and I feel this and the new stadium, I think the club comes with a new ambition, so I want to play my part in that." Everton, who will move into their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium for the start of next season, begin their league campaign at promoted Leeds United on August 18. Soccer-Bayern's Musiala says 'no one to blame' for leg-break at Club World Cup

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - FIFA Club World Cup - Quarter Final - Paris St Germain v Bayern Munich - Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. - July 5, 2025 Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala is stretchered off after sustaining an injury REUTERS/Kai Pfaffenbach/File Photo (Reuters) -Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala said no one was to blame for the horrific leg-break he suffered in their Club World Cup quarter-final against Paris St Germain, adding on Wednesday that "situations like this happen". The 22-year-old sustained a fibula fracture with a broken and dislocated ankle following a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at the end of the first half. The Germany international, who was taken off on a stretcher, flew back from Atlanta to Munich where he had surgery and is expected to be sidelined for a few months and miss the start of the new season. "The surgery went really well, I'm in good care and I wanted to say there's no one to blame for this," Musiala said in an Instagram post. "I think situations like this happen and now I'm just going to use the next period of time to build up my strength and positivity again." Donnarumma looked visibly shaken following the injury and said after the match that his "prayers and well wishes" were with Musiala. Bayern manager Vincent Kompany was very upset about the incident, saying shortly after the 2-0 defeat that he had "rarely been so angry." Musiala finished the season with 21 goals and eight assists in all competitions as Bayern won the Bundesliga title. (Reporting by Streisand Neto; Editing by Ken Ferris)

Soccer-England midfielder Henderson to leave Ajax on free transfer, say reports

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - World Cup - European Qualifiers - Group K - England v Latvia - Wembley Stadium, London, Britain - March 24, 2025 England's Jordan Henderson Action Images via Reuters/Matthew Childs/File Photo AMSTERDAM (Reuters) -England international Jordan Henderson is to leave Ajax Amsterdam on a free transfer after 18 months at the club, Dutch media said on Wednesday. The 35-year-old, who joined the club from Al-Ettifaq of Saudi Arabia in January 2024, has proven a valuable asset as Ajax finished runners-up in the Eredivisie last month and won direct entry into the Champions League group phase. Henderson, who captained the club, still has one year left on his contract. Ajax granted Henderson a few extra days off after the death of former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota but on Wednesday he reported to the club's training camp in the Netherlands to say goodbye to his teammates, the reports said. There was no announcement from Ajax, for whom Henderson has played 57 times, scoring once. In March, Henderson won a surprise England recall in new manager Thomas Tuchel's first squad after being left out of Euro 2024. He has since moved to 84 caps after playing in three World Cup qualifiers this year against Albania, Latvia and Andorra. (Writing by Mark Gleeson in Cape Town; Editing by Ken Ferris)
