SARAWAK has surveyed a total of 1.19 million hectares of native customary right (NCR) land as of Feb 27 this year.
Deputy Premier Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said 935,000ha had been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserves under Section 6 of the State Land Code (SLC).
'Additionally, 98,340 individual lots, covering 117,051ha, have been surveyed under Section 18, with land titles issued for 32,185 lots, spanning 45,000ha,' added Awang Tengah.
He said this at the presentation of 157 land titles to 133 recipients from the Igu/Tamin area in Selangau and Pasai Siong.
A total of RM6.79mil in compensation was to be distributed to 365 landowners whose lands were acquired for various development projects.
These included the Baleh-Mapai 500KV transmission line, road construction works in Sungai Lengan and the upgrading of the Salim Water Treatment Plant.
Awang Tengah, who is also the Sarawak Natural Resources and Urban Development Minister, urged NCR landowners involved in disputes to resolve their issues amicably.
He said the Sarawak Land and Survey Department is unable to proceed with survey works on NCR lands that are under dispute or involved in court proceedings.
'Settle the matters amicably and with wisdom. Only then can applicants submit a fresh application to rejoin the NCR Land Survey Programme.
'If even a single claimant disagrees, the survey will not proceed,' he said.
Awang Tengah also reminded landowners that claims must be accompanied with valid legal evidence and correspond with existing government records.

'The tourism sector in northern Sarawak has been identified to have high potential to drive economic growth,' he said at the 26th Meeting of the Implementation of the Exchange of Letters between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam (EOL-26) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. Awang Tengah attended the meeting, which was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs II Datuk Seri Setia Erywan Mohd Yusof, according to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report. Among the main focuses of the meeting included efforts to strengthen economic cooperation and cross-border development, especially involving strategic areas such as Sarawak and Brunei EOL-26 served as an important platform to refine the implementation of bilateral agreements and understandings that have been signed between the two neighbouring countries. This meeting also laid the groundwork for the 26th Malaysia–Brunei Annual Leaders' Consultation, which is scheduled to take place next month and will be hosted by Malaysia. Sarawak's active participation in EOL-26 reflected the government's commitment to high-impact bilateral cooperation, in line with the economic diplomacy aspirations outlined by the federal government. Second Sg Limbang Bridge project progressing smoothly, to complete by June 2026, says Awang Tengah

Awang Tengah (fifth right) and others in a photocall at the Second Sungai Limbang Bridge project site on Monday. LIMBANG (July 23): Construction of the Second Sungai Limbang Bridge is progressing well and is expected to be completed by June 2026, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. He said the RM188 million project, which previously suffered significant delays under former contractors, was handed over to a new contractor in 2023 and has since shown steady progress in line with the revised schedule. 'We can now see excellent and smooth progress,' Awang Tengah told reporters during the project site visit on Monday, adding that the new contractor had assured that they would complete the project on schedule. Describing the bridge as a vital infrastructure development, Awang Tengah said it will provide an additional route connecting Limbang to Brunei Darussalam, significantly enhancing the region's transport network. 'This is one of our efforts to further improve our road system,' said Awang Tengah, noting that local residents are eagerly awaiting its completion for better cross-border connectivity and as a catalyst for economic growth in areas across the river. In another development, he revealed that construction of the Limbang Integrated Administrative Complex (IAC) has reached 67 per cent completion and is on track to be fully completed by May 2026. The IAC will serve as a new landmark in Limbang, housing state government departments and agencies currently operating out of Limbang Plaza. Joining Awang Tengah during the visit were Deputy State Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail; Batu Danau assemblyman Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang; Limbang Resident Unus Tambi; Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Awangku Jinal Abedin Dato Pengiran Jawa; and Limbang Division Engineer Mahathir Jokeni.

Awang Tengah shoots down factional feud claims

Sarawak deputy premier Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said the unfounded claims have sparked suspicion among certain quarters, painting him as someone who is 'power crazy'. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Sarawak deputy premier Awang Tengah Ali Hassan has shot down allegations of a brewing silent rivalry between those aligned with him and supporters of premier Abang Johari Openg. He dismissed the notion of a power struggle, insisting that the allegations were unfounded, The Borneo Post reported. He also disputed FMT's report which stated that the rivalry between the factions aligned with each leader had been intensifying ahead of a potential showdown that could determine the state's future direction. Awang Tengah, who is the state international trade and investment minister, also challenged the source cited in the report. 'It's nothing more than rubbish. 'I am not one to pretend. My support for Abang Johari's leadership is undivided,' he told reporters after chairing Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu's Bukit Sari branch committee meeting in Lawas last night. His dismissal of the claims comes a day after Abang Johari said the 'baseless' allegations were driven by jealousy over Sarawak's rapidly growing economy. Awang Tengah said the unfounded claims have, to some extent, sparked suspicion among certain quarters, painting him as someone who is 'power crazy'. 'I believe in what was instilled in me, which is the spirit of teamwork, loyalty to leadership and prioritising the party over any form of factionalism. 'I hold firmly to these principles,' he said. On Thursday, FMT cited a source as saying the rivalry between the factions aligned with each leader could trigger intensive political manoeuvring in the months ahead, with the next state election slated for 2026. Abang Johari commands strong support among rural voters and delegates from PBB, which he leads, according to the source. He also has the support of the state's civil service, having aggressively pursued infrastructure development, digital economy initiatives and autonomy over state revenue, which flows through the government machinery. Awang Tengah, who is a PBB deputy president, is seen by some as a charismatic leader, with the source saying that he also commands significant grassroots support and is an efficient administrator of state development projects. PBB information chief Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah had dismissed talk of a power struggle, saying PBB's top two leaders were not in competition with each other.
