Sean Payton says Broncos avoid idea of picking up where they left off
Actually, strike that -- coach Sean Payton doesn't see it that way.
'The one thing we have to avoid is this idea that we are going to pick up where we left off," Payton said in February. "I don't like that because our league has shown that the season ends, and you take the proverbial game board, you take all the pieces and dump them and you start again.
"Certainly you are more confident, the experience has helped a number of players, but the journey begins. We don't shy away from it. Our expectations are high, and I am encouraged with some of the things that we did this past season and yet we are still hungry for more.'
Denver's roster has changed since last season, and they'll have a new schedule in 2025 with teams that also changed their rosters this spring. So it's not quite as simple as picking up where they left off -- it's a completely new challenge.
Still, the Broncos appear to be trending up.
'It's only a team on the rise if we take advantage of this offseason," Broncos general manager George Paton said. "Like Sean said, nothing's guaranteed moving forward. We made the playoffs. We lost in the Wild Card. You start over, and that's what we're doing. We're starting over. Our sole focus is just upgrading this team each and every day.'
Denver certainly made upgrades, bringing in a new safety, a new linebacker and two new running backs (among other additions). Semantics aside, the Broncos have momentum after an encouraging 2024 season, and they'll look to build on last season's success this fall (view the full schedule).

Rockies President set to step down after ugly 2025 campaign
The post Rockies President set to step down after ugly 2025 campaign appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Colorado Rockies are in the midst of a dismal season. A recent win streak isn't enough to dig them out of the hole of an 18-62 record thus far. Advertisement On Thursday, the team received big news that long-time president Greg Feasel will be leaving after this year. 'The Colorado Rockies announced today that President & Chief Operating Officer Greg Feasel, a member of the Rockies front office since 1995, will step down at the end of the 2025 season,' the team said in a statement. 'As part of this transition, former Vice President of Corporate Partnerships Walker Monfort has moved into the role of executive vice president of the Rockies, effective immediately. He will lead the club alongside Feasel through the transition and will officially assume his responsibilities in January 2026.' Feasel is a former football player who played in the NFL and the United States Football League (USFL) from 1980-1987. He played for the Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Oilers, Green Bay Packers, and San Diego Chargers. Advertisement In the USFL, he played for the Denver Gold from 1983-1985. In 1996, Feasel joined the Rockies. He later became the chief operating officer in 2012. Feasel became the team president in April 2021. That same year, he took over as GM following the departure of Jeff Bridich after 21 games. The Rockies under Greg Feasel Colorado became an expansion team in 1993, three years prior to Feasel's involvement. Since then, they reached the playoffs five times, each time as Wild Card teams. In 1995, Colorado made their first playoff appearance. They lost to the eventual champion Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series. In 2007, the Rockies won their first National League pennant and made it to the World Series. Advertisement They would lose to the Boston Red Sox. Colorado made other other playoff appearances in 2009, 2017, and 2018. Along the way, they produced hall of famers in Todd Helton and Larry Walker. Rockies rumors: Ex-All-Star named a player to watch at trade deadline
The post Rockies rumors: Ex-All-Star named a player to watch at trade deadline appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Colorado Rockies are still on pace to break the Chicago White Sox's record for losses in a season. Even with a sweep of the Washington Nationals in June, they are on pace for just 35 wins. The Rockies have to be active at the MLB trade deadline, and that could include dealing pitcher German Marquez. MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported Sunday that Marquez is a name to watch in the next month. Advertisement 'Germán Márquez, pitching well in Milwaukee today, is a name to watch at the MLB Trade Deadline. Márquez, a former All-Star, has an expiring contract and ERA well below 3.00 since the start of June,' Morosi posted on social media on Sunday. Marquez did have five shutout innings before allowing solo shots to Sal Frelick and Christian Yelich in the sixth. The Rockies' offense gave him no run support, so they were down 2-0 after those homers. But a team that does score and could use some pitching should look at Marquez. Marquez has been with the Rockies since 2016, with a career ERA of 4.52. But pitching in Colorado is difficult, and Marquez's numbers support that. He has a 5.02 ERA in 92 appearances at Coors Field and a 4.06 ERA in 101 appearances elsewhere. That was before his 5.2 innings of two-run ball on Sunday. The Rockies should be trying to get as many prospects as possible at this year's MLB trade deadline. Their current core is not working at all, and they should be looking to start over. That could include pitcher Kyle Freeland, infielder Ryan McMahon, and a few others. But Marquez could garner a lot of interest at the deadline. Advertisement The Rockies finish their series with the Brewers on Sunday, looking to break a five-game losing streak. After that, they host the Astros and the White Sox for three games each. Nuggets Get Unexpected News on Newly Acquired Player
Nuggets Get Unexpected News on Newly Acquired Player originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Nuggets are undergoing massive changes during this offseason. In fact, many significant changes came at the end of the regular season, when they made the shocking decision to fire head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth. Advertisement Even without Malone, the Nuggets were impressive in the playoffs, defeating the then-red-hot Los Angeles Clippers, who had nine out of their last 10 games heading into the postseason. While it took timely offensive rebounding and Russell Westbrook shooting 41.9% from three, the Nuggets prevailed in seven games. Although they fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the subsequent series, they pushed the eventual champions to a seven-game series. The Nuggets made a shocking trade when they sent Michael Porter Jr. and an unprotected first-round pick in 2032 to the Brooklyn Nets for forward Cameron Johnson. Advertisement Shortly after, the Nuggets announced they were signing former fan-favorite guard Bruce Brown. Shortly after, they announced that they were sending Dario Saric to the Sacramento Kings for Jonas Valanciunas. However, according to a recent report, Valanciunas' future with the Nuggets seems unclear. "Jonas Valanciunas is close to leaving the NBA and joining Greece's Panathinaikos Athens, per BasketNews. Valanciunas was traded to the Nuggets just two days ago but has reportedly been lured by Panathinaikos' 3-year €12 million offer," a ClutchPoints post read. At 33 years old, Valanciunas has played 13 seasons in the NBA. He played for the Washington Wizards last season before being traded to the Kings. He averaged 8.7 points and seven rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game. Advertisement Valanciunas has two years and roughly $20.4 million remaining on his deal. It remains unclear if he would retire or take a buyout to play for Panathinaikos next season. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 3, 2025, where it first appeared.
