'Kannappa' box office collections day 8: Film slows down; mints only Rs 30.55 cr

Vishnu Manchu's big-budget mythological drama 'Kannappa' kicked off with a strong opening, but the film's performance has slowed considerably in its second week. According to early estimates by the Sacnilk website, it earned around Rs 35 lakhs on its eighth day, pushing the total to Rs 30.55 crore across languages. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Bright opening, but numbers fall steeply Released with much fanfare, 'Kannappa' opened to Rs 9.35 crore on Day 1, thanks in large part to its Telugu audience. The first weekend was encouraging, with the film raking in over Rs 23 crore by Sunday. Kannappa - Official Hindi Trailer Monday's collections dropped to Rs 2.3 crore, and the numbers continued to slide through the week. By Thursday, daily earnings hovered at Rs 1.35 crore. Audience turnout dips across languages The drop wasn't just in numbers, as it was visible in theatre occupancy too. In the Telugu-speaking regions, occupancy on Friday averaged just under 17%. In Hindi belts, the response was even more subdued, staying around 10%. Evening and night shows did see a slight bump, which is not enough to affect the day's overall take significantly. Crucial weekend ahead The film's second weekend will likely determine how long it can stay afloat. While the mythological theme had its appeal, and the star cast brought attention, the story now needs strong word-of-mouth to carry it forward. With newer films arriving and audience interest shifting, 'Kannappa' has its task cut out if it hopes to stay in the game. Our verdict ETimes gave the movie a rating of 3 stars out if 5 and our review reads, "Watch it if you enjoy sacred stories with strong visual storytelling and emotional payoff. Kannappa ends on a powerful note that resonates with devotees and admirers of culturally rooted cinema." The movie is overall getting mixed reviews from the audiences which may affect it's long run in theatres.

Chile detains teen aviator from US after landing in Antarctica

A 19-year-old American content creator who was trying to fly solo to all seven continents was detained by Chilean authorities this week after they said he had landed his plane on an island off Antarctica without authorisation. The teenager, Ethan Guo, said in an interview Thursday that he was being housed at a Chilean base on King George Island, roughly 75 miles off the coast of Antarctica, as the case against him proceeds. Chilean officials said Thursday that although Guo had initially been detained, he was now free to leave the island as long as he remained in Chile until his case is resolved. Guo had been documenting his journey around the world on TikTok, where he has more than 329,000 followers, and Instagram, where he has about 1.3 million followers. Guo, who obtained his pilot's license at 17, was aiming to become the first person to fly solo in a small aircraft to all seven continents, according to his website, and was hoping to raise $1 million for cancer research. Antarctica was the only continent where he had yet to land, he said. Karan Johar Said He Doesn't Want To Work With Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise: 'Don't Want Them In My Movies'

Karan Johar said he has 'no interest' in working with Hollywood actors or making an English language film. Karan Johar is among the biggest filmmakers and producers in India. As such, he has no interest in waiting in Hollywood offices to get his scripts read. In a 2012 conversation with TBIP, Karan Johar said he has no intention of working with Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise or Will Smith. He said that, unlike Hollywood, Indian cinema has a vast audience even in the domestic sense. Karan Johar said, 'We have such a large domestic audience that we have never needed to reach out. I have no interest in whether my film releases anywhere else in the world but India. The diaspora, for sure… But I don't want to work with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise and Will Smith. I don't want them in my movies." Karan added, 'I don't want to make an English language film. I have no interest in going down and sitting in an office in LA and waiting for an actor to hear my script. I have no interest. If they give me an Oscar in my lifetime, I'll accept it as gladly as I'd accept a National Award from the President. It'd probably mean more to me." The filmmaker said that while he watches the Oscars and enjoys the black-tie event on his television, he will not spend years of his life trying to win it. 'I love the movies I make. I love the world I live in. I love the fact that Hindi cinema is a part of my life. I feel blessed that I'm in this profession," Karan mentioned. He wished that Bollywood never needed to reach out to 'another country" to support its creative endeavours. Although Karan Johar mentioned that he didn't want Will Smith in his films, it is interesting that years later, the actor made a cameo in Student of the Year 2. The film was produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. Meanwhile, Karan Johar recently critiqued Brad Pitt's F1. Karan Johar called F1 a fun watch despite being predictable. He wrote on Instagram, 'Familiar Tropes, predictable beats, one-liners you see coming a mile away and yet. SO MUCH FUN! You can't stop yourself from reaching the edge of your seat or gasping out loud (sic). Brad Pitt seems to have approached the role with a self-reflecting Zen mode movie star swag! So effective and landed every beat!" He said that he found the climax a bit weak, and ended by saying, 'Mildly underwhelmed with the climactic beat BUT don't miss this adrenaline race and rush (sic)."
