Report: Luka Doncic signs 3-year, $165M extension with Lakers
Five-time All-NBA guard Luka Doncic signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN reported on Saturday. The Lakers announced the extension but did not divulge terms of the deal, which comes six months to the day after Doncic was acquired by the Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks. Per ESPN, the contract extension includes a player option for the 2028-29 season. It also keeps Doncic out of free agency next summer and nixes his 2026-27 player option in place of the new contract. "Today is a monumental moment for our franchise. Luka Doncic's future is with the Los Angeles Lakers," said Rob Pelinka, the Lakers president of basketball operations. "Luka is one of the game's most transcendent players, and his on-court dominance and passion is without compare. From the moment Luka became a Laker, there was an immediate connection and admiration between Luka and our fanbase. You can feel it in your spirit when you attend a Lakers game. Luka is an absolute killer on the court, and blends that with a unique generosity and care for the community. Above all else, Luka will lead our franchise to pursue future championships, a goal that will forever define the Lakers." Doncic, 26, averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 28 games (all starts) since he was acquired by the Lakers in a three-team deal on Feb. 2. The Lakers also received Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, and the Mavericks picked up Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round draft pick. The Utah Jazz, who helped to facilitate the trade, received Jalen Hood-Schifino and a 2025 second-round draft pick via the Los Angeles Clippers from the Lakers. Dallas also sent a 2025 second-round selection to Utah. "I'm really grateful to the Lakers organization, my teammates and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one," Doncic said. "This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we're building together. I'm going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud. This is just the beginning. I'm excited for what's ahead and to keep building something special with this team." A five-time All-Star selection, Doncic is averaging 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 450 career games (all starts) with the Mavericks and Lakers. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved

Lakers are monitoring the situation with former All-Star center
It is presumed that the Los Angeles Lakers are done making roster moves this offseason. However, there is always the chance that they make a move or two once the season gets started. With the NBA's new ultra-restrictive salary cap now in full effect and teams across the league feeling its effects, there have been perfectly viable players getting their contracts bought out. The Lakers have capitalized on this trend by signing 26-year-old potential-laden center Deandre Ayton and 2022 Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart. Ideally, they would find a better backup behind Ayton than Jaxson Hayes. There is reportedly a chance that Nikola Vučević, a veteran center who has made the All-Star team twice, will get his contract bought out by the Chicago Bulls. According to Anthony Irwin of ClutchPoints, the Lakers are "closely monitoring that situation." "This does leave a few interesting free agents still, not even including eventual buyout candidates like Chicago's Nikola Vučević," Irwin wrote. "As they did with Smart, the Lakers are closely monitoring that situation." Vucevic will turn 35 years of age in late October and is noticeably unathletic, not to mention a weak defender. But he has shown some ability to hit the 3-point shot over the years, although his 3-point efficiency has fluctuated from year to year, and he's a capable rebounder. This past season, he averaged 18.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 0.7 blocks a game while shooting 53% from the field and 40.2% from 3-point range. The previous season, he made 29.4% of his 3-point attempts. As of now, the Lakers have just over $1 million of space under the first apron of the salary cap, which isn't enough to sign him to the veteran's minimum contract.

No, you wear it on your head In Prada's latest attempt to offer products to people who have more money than common sense, the fashion house is offering a cat basket and passing it off as a hat. The Straw Visor Cap currently sells on Saks Fifth Avenue for $2,800. If you aren't vibing with the lampshade-on-your-head look, definitely pick up the company's holey Leather Visor for a lot less ($1,790) or a more traditional cotton baseball cap for $895. What we're still thinking about 12.6% That's how much Purple's second quarter net revenue declined year over year. The mattress company attributed the drop to 'delays in the timing of Rejuvenate 2.0 shipments, lapping reductions in wholesale door count from 2024, and softness in ecommerce.' Still, executives sounded upbeat on the full year, reiterating guidance and saying on an earnings call Tuesday that the brand expects its showrooms to become profitable in 2025. 60 That's how old Petco is this year. The retailer, a brick-and-mortar stalwart, started off as a veterinary supply mail-order business. Acquiring two pet-supply rivals in 1988 tripled its store footprint, and its expansion continued well into the 21st century. More recently, the chain has struggled, though, and it's now pursuing a turnaround under new leadership. For its anniversary this month, Petco is hosting tastings, promotions and adoption events, including a birthday party Aug. 16 at stores nationwide. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. local time, pets and their families get various treats, with gift bags going to the first 60 customers. The festivities culminate on Aug. 26, National Dog Day, with special deals and an Instagram giveaway for a chance to win a Petco shopping spree. What we're watching The return of Outdoor Voices After an abrupt closure of its store footprint last year and a sale to Consortium Brand Partners, Outdoor Voices is back with new product and its old founder. Ty Haney has rejoined the brand as founder, owner and partner, and led the nine-month-long design process of the brand's new collection, launching next week. The move has already sparked plenty of discourse about what Outdoor Voices will accomplish this time around, with fans peppering the brand's Instagram with comments about which products to bring back and general excitement for the reveal. Many also praised the return of Haney herself, who left the brand in 2020 under tumultuous circumstances. But it's not all exercise dress bliss. The brand's posts have also become home to customers airing grievances about certain style changes in the new collection — including a sweater with a sparkly 'Doing Things' bedazzled on the front — as well as complaints about limited sizing and months-old order mishaps. With Haney back at the helm and the deeper resources of a parent company, can Outdoor Voices regain its spot in activewear shoppers' closets?
