Virat Kohli to come out of retirement and play again if…: 'He still loves Test cricket. Whatever his reasons are…'
A few days ago, Indian cricket made one final push to change Kohli's mind when Arun Dhumal, the IPL president, urged Virat to reconsider his decision. He said he wanted Kohli to take back his retirement if his team, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, won the IPL. It's been more than 48 hours since RCB lifted their maiden IPL trophy, but Kohli has been silent on the matter. However, the one thing he did make clear shortly after he became an IPL champion was how much admiration he still has for Test cricket, when he called winning the IPL 'five levels below' Test cricket.

Which is why Michael Clarke believes that we may not have seen the last of Virat Kohli in whites just yet. The former Australia World Cup-winning captain firmly feels that if the Indian team gets rogered in England, Kohli will come out of retirement. India are yet to win a Test series in England since 2007. They were whitewashed 0-4 in 2011, lost 1-3 in 2014, were humbled 1-4 in 2018 and drew 2-2 in 2021/22. With this being one of the least experienced Indian teams to ever tour England, India's wait could prolong further, and if that happens, chances are that Kohli could rethink his decision with a little bit of persuasion.
"I believe this. If India go to England and get flogged, if they lose the series 5-0 for example, I think the fans will want Virat Kohli to come out of retirement and play Test cricket again. And I honestly, I think if he was asked by captain, selectors and supported by fans, if they get beaten big time in England, I think he'll come. He still loves Test cricket. I think his words, I think those words, like you could hear his passion for Test cricket is real," Clarke said on the Beyond23 podcast.

"He sees it as the pinnacle and he's still playing good enough cricket. He definitely made the decision to retire and whatever his reasons are, everybody comes to that time in their career. If that's the case, then so be it. But if they don't perform, if they get beaten, like I say, 5-0 in England, which I don't think they will. I think they can still win in England, even without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. I think this Indian squad is a good squad."
One can also look at it from a point of view that, despite his declaration, Kohli has unfinished business with England. He had a forgettable tour in 2014, managing just 134 runs from five Tests, but four years later, made a tremendous comeback – arguably the best ever seen in Test cricket – when he pummelled almost 700 runs. Although India lost that series, he got the team perilously close to creating history three years later. India won the Test matches at Lord's and The Oval, and had the Trent Bridge match in their control when rain played spoilsport on the final day. The fifth Test was rescheduled due to Covid-19 the following year, which India lost to end the series 2-2.
Clarke is mindful of the fact that the current Indian team is full of promise, good enough to do what no team before them has done in 18 years. But in case things go haywire, Kohli may be motivated to take his retirement back.
"India is a passionate cricket country. They want to see their team win. I think they can still beat England. There you go. I think they're a good enough team. But if they don't, if they get flogged, I think there'll be a push for Virat Kohli to come out of retirement," he said.

This medal feels even more special because we came from a place of failure. We worked harder, and finally reached the podium," Devansh, still standing alongside Krish at his house in the city, told TOI. The Indian team, according to the teens, met its toughest opponent in Taiwan at the Asian Roller Skating Championships, but went on to win comfortably with a score of 3-1. The boys then defeated Iran and South Korea before being pitted against China in the match for a bronze. India led 2-1, but the opposition pressed hard. "Krish literally put his body on the line. He took several hits from the puck — he has bruises all over — but he didn't flinch. That medal was earned with blood and grit," Devansh said. Krish added, "This championship was a rollercoaster for all of us. We learned new things and made new friends. This championship was one of the best experiences I have had in my journey till now." Kaviin, the son of two electrical engineers who moved to Gurgaon from Tamil Nadu when he was only six months old, said he came into the mix later, but has been close to Devansh and Krish for a decade now. "We have been playing together for 10 years. They are like my brothers, and they really supported me throughout this journey. They have played in three internationals, and as it was my first international (competition), they helped me deal with nervousness and anxiety," he said. On the bronze medal, Kaviin said, "Representing the Indian national team was a proud moment for me. Not only for me, but for my family, my friends and my entire society." The journey to the international stage wasn't easy for either. "We began practising in basketball courts because there were no proper skating rinks… The first rink we trained at came up in Samaspur village, and later we moved to a better facility at Vivekanand School," Devansh said. Infrastructure wasn't easily available, but the skaters' families rallied behind them. Devansh's grandfather, Colonel RK Sharma (retd), was a constant presence. "He might skip a society meeting or a family function, but he never missed picking up Devansh from practice. He's like a coach, driver and biggest cheerleader -- all rolled into one," said a family friend. Col Sharma said Devansh's father is in the Merchant Navy and his mother works for a corporate firm in the city. "They (parents) are busy with work… I've seen Devansh and Krish's passion up close. I'm proud to support them however I can," the 75-year-old said. India's, and the team's performance in South Korea has enthused the local community, but it has also given them reason to appeal the govt for support. Families say they have spent Rs 5-6 lakh each on training camps, equipment, diets and travel — all from their own pockets. "There's zero financial aid, no infrastructure support and no acknowledgement from the state. These kids have the talent and the drive, but how long can families keep funding everything on their own," questioned Krish's father Narender Yadav, a businessman, said. Krish's mother Suman said the families had even protested outside the then-Haryana sports minister's house in 2019. "We were hopeful things would change with a new govt, but the silence continues," she said. Haryana's current sports minister did not respond to requests for comment till Sunday night. For now, the boys are back to their routines, training harder and dreaming bigger. "We don't want to stop here. We want to win the World Championships for India, maybe even the Olympics, if the sport is introduced someday," said Devansh. 1 2 Jaipur: Egypt's Yassine Shohadi and Nour Khafagi have been given top seeding in the men's and women's categories, respectively in the first leg of the HCL India Squash Tour 2025 starting at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium here on Monday under the joint aegis of the Squash Rackets Federation of India and HCL. Star Indian squash players Joshna Chinappa and Nirupama Dubey withdrew just a day before the start of the tournament, allowing Rajasthan's Chhabi Saran to enter the main draw. Squash Rackets Federation of India vice-president Surabhi Mishra said here on Sunday that Egypt's Yassine Shohadi has been given the top seed in the matches starting from Monday. Japan's Tomo Endo has got the second seed, Sri Lanka's Ravindu Laksiri has got the third seed and Malaysia's Darin Pragasus has got the fourth seed. Surabhi Mishra informed that Suraj Kumar Chand is the only Indian in the top 8 in the men's category, who has been given the sixth seed. India's Rahul Baitha, Aryaveer Diwan, Ayan Wazir Ali and Diwakar Singh will also challenge. Surabhi said that in the women's category too, Egypt's Noor Khafagi is the top seed.
