Panchayat 4 star Jitendra Kumar addresses the removed kissing scene with Sanvikaa: 'We wanted to make the scene awkwardly funny...'

Panchayat 4 sparks debate due to a missing kiss scene between Sachivji and Rinki. Jitendra Kumar addresses the scene's removal and the show's tonal shift. Sanvikaa felt the kiss was unsuitable for the family audience. Jitendra emphasized Sanvikaa's consent was crucial. He also discussed the series' move towards more serious themes.
Panchayat 4 may have finally delivered the long-awaited love confession between Sachivji and Rinki, but it's what didn't happen that's making headlines. A much-anticipated kiss between
Jitendra Kumar
and
Sanvikaa
was notably missing from the final cut, sparking debate among fans.
In conversation with NDTV, Jitendra Kumar broke his silence on the scene's removal, addressed the evolving tone of the series, and reflected on his journey as one of OTT's most relatable leading men.
In another recent interview, Sanvikaa shared that she turned down the on-screen kiss with Jitendra Kumar, explaining that she felt it might not sit well with Panchayat's core family audience. Given the show's rooted, small-town charm, she believed keeping the moment subtle was more in line with its tone and viewer expectations.
When asked by NDTV whether he was consulted before filming the much-discussed scene, Jitendra Kumar clarified that Sanvikaa's earlier comment had been taken out of context. He shared that when the scene was first proposed, he immediately asked the makers to check with Sanvikaa, stressing that her consent was key. The original idea was to keep the moment 'awkwardly funny' — with the two leaning in for a kiss just as the lights go off.
However, the team eventually decided to shoot it differently, staying true to the show's subtle and grounded tone.
Jitendra clarified that he has no issues with on-screen intimacy, having previously done kissing scenes in both mainstream films and web content, including with
Ayushmann Khurrana
in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. For him, it's never about the act itself but whether it serves the story. He believes that any such moment—be it romantic or otherwise—should feel organic and connect meaningfully with the audience.
Starting with Season 3, Panchayat witnessed a noticeable shift in tone. What began in 2020 as a lighthearted, feel-good escape during the pandemic gradually moved into more serious, politically charged territory. While the first two seasons were celebrated for their simplicity and charm, critics and a significant section of the internet have pointed out that the series has veered away from its original innocence, leaning instead into darker themes and heightened drama.
When asked about the mixed reactions to Panchayat Season 4, Jitendra Kumar told NDTV he was confident in the script and believed the story was headed in the right direction. Seeing the final product on screen only reaffirmed that conviction. While he initially felt nervous after reading the first few reviews, the overwhelming love from the audience reassured him that the team's efforts had resonated. For Jitendra, the viewers' response is the real verdict—and that, he believes, speaks for itself.

From Animal To Ramayana, Indira Krishnan Says Playing Ranbir Kapoor's Mom Is "Like A Con By The Universe"

Actor Indira Krishnan says her role in Ramayana as Kaushalya, Lord Ram's mother, was nothing short of a divine intervention. "It was like a con by the universe," she says with a laugh. "I had to claim (the role of) Ranbir's mom somehow and I did." In an exclusive interview with NDTV, the actor opened up on being cast alongside her onscreen son Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, her experience with cutting-edge VFX technology used in the film, and director Nitesh Tiwari's unique style of storytelling. Indira Krishnan recalls how it all started during the last day of shooting for the 2023 film Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. In the Sandeep Reddy Vanga movie, Indira Krishnan had a brief but memorable appearance as Geetanjali (Rashmika Mandanna)'s mother. Indira Krishnan says, "Ranbir and I were sitting and chatting, and Rashmika said to me, 'Ma'am, it was so lovely shooting with you, I wish you would play my mother again'. I told her, 'Now I want to play Ranbir's mom someday'. Two years later, that's exactly what happened. I was called in for Ramayana." She adds, "When I reached the office, Ranbir came and said, 'You remember what you told me two years ago?' I said, 'You remember that?' And he said, 'Yeah, you wanted to play my mother. See, you became my mother'. It felt surreal." Indira Krishnan also had a front-row seat to the massive technological scale of the film. On set, she came face to face with a special machine that is used for VFX measurements "I remember when I went in for my body measurements, they told me the machine was used for (Christopher Nolan's) Interstellar. It was an 86 camera setup. All 86 cameras flashed on me at once - I was zonked. They told me it's for the VFX, not just costume fittings. I had no idea how younger versions of the characters would be created. The process was meticulous. Even how Kaushalya walks or sits everything was planned. There were no dramatic dialogues, only poise and control." She praised production banner Prime Focus and the VFX team, led by Jaykar, for precision and scale. "It is not easy to gather such a huge cast in one frame and seamlessly execute such heavy VFX," she said. Indira Krishnan, whose credits include TV shows such as Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Afsar Bitiya, and Durga - Atoot Prem Kahani as well as films such as Tere Naam and Holiday, also praised director Nitesh Tiwari, calling him "a man of visuals". "When he narrates a scene, you live the moment right there. What I love most is the freedom he gives his actors. He told me, 'Ma'am, this is my take, now if you want to add something, feel free to do it within the range of your character'. That kind of trust is rare." Ramayana also stars Sai Pallavi (Sita), Yash (Ravan), Sunny Deol (Hanuman), and Ravi Dubey (Lakshman). On seeing the star-studded cast for the first time, she thought she was dreaming. "When I reached the office, I saw Ranbir, Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey. My nameplate was on the table. I didn't know if I was daydreaming or if this was really happening."

How Smriti Irani Is Dealing With Trolls On Kyunki: "When You Are In The Public Eye..."

New Delhi: Smriti Irani is gearing up for the reboot series of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi which will drop on July 29, 2025. It will premiere on Star Plus at 10:30 PM, and will also be available on JioHotstar. While she enjoys a massive fandom for her role as Tulsi Virani in the hit daily soap, there is also an army of trolls who have criticised her for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, Smriti Irani shares her opinion on dealing with such online flak. She said, "Trolling is fine, I think when you are in the public eye, you have to be ready for it. You cannot leverage the victim card. You also have to understand you're on a higher plane in life, where you recognise this may be someone's way of venting. Possibly emanating from a challenge they are facing in their public or private life, and they don't know how to respond. So you just take it with a pinch of salt and keep moving." The actress also spoke on being convinced about returning to the reboot series and trusting Ekta Kapoor's vision. Smriti Irani said, "The fact that the OTT platform has 25% of the market, and the channel itself is number 1, more than that, as a creator, Ekta is aware. She is now creating something for the contemporary audience, but it has an emotional foundation on which we have to build. I think it's 3-4 elements together that help you conclude, and that it will accommodate a full-time politician as a part-time actor." The first glimpse that was unveiled yesterday has gotten fans excited as they are eagerly anticipating the most popular daily soap of the 2000s to make a comeback.
