New Delhi: Move over, airplanes — Beijing has successfully tested magnetic levitation (Maglev) technology, with the potential to make trains even faster than jets. According to the reports, Maglev technology trains will be able to cover 1,200km distance in just 150 minutes. The South China Morning Post reported that the superfast Maglev, travelling the 1,200km distance between Beijing and Shanghai, could slash the present travel time of 5.5 hours by high-speed rail to as little as 2.5 hours. If magnetic levitation (Maglev) technology is introduced in India, the journey between Delhi and Kolkata could take less than 2.5 hours.
It is important to note that the train was unveiled this week at the 17th Modern Railways exhibition. The supersonic train is capable of reaching speeds up to 600 km per hour in just 7 seconds. Faster than a plane:
The Chinese have used opposing magnetic fields in Maglev technology to lift the train off its track. This process helped the train to reduce the friction and allows for smoother, quieter, and faster movement. In its latest trial at Donghu Laboratory in China's Hubei Province — conducted in June — 1.1-ton Maglev train accelerated to 404 mph in under 7 seconds across a 1,968-foot track.
This breakthrough follows a 2023 test in which the same technology reached speeds over 620 mph — surpassing the typical cruising speed of passenger jets, which ranges between 547 and 575 mph, according to Newsweek. The test was conducted inside a vacuum tube designed to simulate near-zero air resistance.
This breakthrough uses high-temperature superconducting levitation, allowing frictionless, silent travel at record speeds.
Engineers at Donghu Laboratory expect to complete the full construction of their high-speed track by the end of 2025, as per Newsweek. What does the Maglev train look like? The train is being developed by the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC)

Chinese Firm Unveils World's First Humanoid Robot Capable Of Changing Own Battery

A Chinese firm has launched a humanoid robot that can change its own battery, allowing it to run autonomously for 24 hours in seven days without human intervention. The world's first autonomous robot, Walker S2, has been developed by UBTECH Robotics. Watch the video here: The robot is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs around 95 pounds (43 kilograms), the company said in a video posted on YouTube. It has 20 joints or mechanisms that can move in different ways, allowing flexible movement. It is also compatible with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which enables seamless connectivity. The robot uses a 48-volt lithium battery in a dual-battery system, allowing it to walk for two hours or stand for four hours before needing a recharge. The battery takes around 90 minutes to fully recharge. The video, posted by the robotics firm, showed the robot working in an industrial setting. The reports have also mentioned that Walker S2 is designed for use in settings like factories or public venues, where it can interact with customers or perform tasks autonomously. The company, established in March 2012, is one of the leading humanoid robots and smart service robots companies. It was officially listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 29 December 2023. The company claims it has developed a full stack of humanoid robotic technologies independently to align its mission of "bringing intelligent robots into every family and making everyday life more convenient and intelligent". "We are also one of few companies in the world to accomplish mass production of small torque to large torque servo actuators. Our self-developed Walker is China's first commercialized biped life-sized humanoid robot," the company says.

US lawmakers raise 'China-Russia Alert'; send letter to Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Amazon: Tell us by August 8 ...

Three prominent Republican House lawmakers have reportedly raised national security concerns about the network of more than 400 subsea cables that handle 99% of international internet traffic and about threats from China and Russia. According to a report by Reuters, these lawmakers have pressed the CEOs of Alphabet, Meta, and Microsoft on the security of critical submarine communications cables, citing escalating national security concerns. The move comes as Washington raises alarms about potential threats from China and Russia to the vast network of over 400 subsea cables that carry an estimated 99% of global internet traffic. What the letter from Republican lawmakers to Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Amazon says In a letter sent Monday (July 21), Representatives John Moolenaar (Chair of the House panel on China), Carlos Gimenez (Chair of a relevant subcommittee), and Keith Self (Chair of another relevant subcommittee) voiced particular apprehension regarding the continued involvement of "China-affiliated entities such as SBSS, Huawei Marine, China Telecom, and China Unicom" in the maintenance and servicing of cable systems in which the tech giants hold direct or indirect operational involvement or ownership. The lawmakers stated their committees are "examining the extent to which foreign adversarial actors are positioning themselves, both overtly and covertly, to compromise subsea cable systems at key points of vulnerability." They have given the companies until August 8 to disclose any instances of suspected hardware tampering, optical signal tapping, unexpected signal distortion, or other operational irregularities observed during cable repair or maintenance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A genetic disorder that is damaging his organs. Letter follows attack on subsea infrastructure This congressional inquiry follows recent actions and incidents highlighting the vulnerability of subsea infrastructure. Recently, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr announced the agency's plan to implement rules prohibiting companies from connecting undersea submarine communication cables to the United States if they incorporate Chinese technology or equipment. Since 2020, U.S. regulators have been instrumental in blocking four proposed cable projects intended to link the United States with Hong Kong. More recently, in November 2024, two fiber-optic undersea telecommunication cables in the Baltic Sea were severed, prompting sabotage investigations. In 2023, Taiwan accused two Chinese vessels of cutting the only two cables providing internet access to the Matsu Islands. Additionally, Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have been implicated in the severing of three cables vital for internet service to Europe and Asia. AI Masterclass for Students. Ola Electric, TVS charge up plans to beat rare-earth magnet crunch

Ferrite magnets are now globally considered a viable and cost-effective option due to their easy availability instead of rare-earth materials like neodymium, making it an affordable option Surajeet Das Gupta New Delhi Listen to This Article Ola Electric is planning to launch in the third quarter (September-December) some of its electric vehicles powered with ferrite motors as an alternative to those that go with heavy rare-earth magnets, whose supply the Chinese government has choked. Government sources Ola is in discussion with have said the company has been working for over two years on developing the technology and design for ferrite motors, where the magnet is made of iron (with some other metals added). The prototype has been internally validated and is being tested on some of its vehicles. The company has to go to the Automotive
