Arsenal and Sporting are apparently battling over bonus payments and the schedule of instalments, with Sporting pushing for more up-front cash.
It emerged last Sunday that the clubs have verbally agreed a five-year-deal in principle worth an initial £55million plus £8.6m in add-ons and bonuses.
But the two sides have hit a deadlock in discussions over the structure of said add-ons.
With talks dragging on, Arsenal have been unable to sign Gyokeres in time for their pre-season tour of Asia, kicking off on Wednesday against AC Milan.

And the delay is reportedly effecting the Gyokeres family, who are worried that his dream move might he slipping away.
A new report from Portuguese outlet Abola has detailed how the player's dad Stefan burst into tears over Sporting's handling of the situation.
Sporting are showing no signs of softening their stance over their demands, with Arsenal's latest bid remaining unanswered for the last SIX DAYS.
Gyokeres is close with his family, with his uncle revealing during Sporting's title celebrations in May, that several people close to the Sweden striker wanted him to stay in Portugal at the time.

But that seems miles away from where Gyokeres stands now.
The 27-year-old couldn't make it any clearer that he doesn't want to return to Sporting, with new footage of a removal van outside his Lisbon home quickly going viral a few days ago.
Noni Madueke joins Arsenal in £52million transfer from Chelsea as Arteta's spending spree set to reach almost £200m
Sporting president Frederico Varandas said Gyokeres could face disciplinary action after he refused to return to pre-season training and missed out on travelling to the Algarve for their camp.
Varandas has been outspoken on negotiations and continues to insist the player will not be allowed to leave unless the club's demands are met.
But Arsenal's failure to agree terms for their most desperate position on the pitch could come back to bite them.
It comes after Manchester United reportedly made a last-gasp move to hijack the deal this weekend.
Record report that United are prepared to offer a higher bid than Mikel Arteta's side, worth between £60million to £69million.
The newspaper notes that Gyokeres - who played under Ruben Amorim at Sporting - still only wants to join Arsenal, but it is still a curveball.
If the club get a deal for Gyokeres over the line, the striker would likely have to wait until August 6 when the Gunners host Villarreal in their first pre-season game back from Asia.
After that, Arteta's side conclude their summer preparations against Athletic Club, before ironically kicking off the Premier League season away at Old Trafford.

Man Utd star drops transfer bombshell and is 'ready to quit' after Ruben Amorim signings

Manchester United have seen a number of new signings as Ruben Amorim shapes his squad in a bit to transform the club's fortunes but it could also mark the moment for a number of stars to leave Luke Shaw is 'ready to quit' Manchester United and willing to listen to offers from other clubs. The defender has spent more than a decade at Old Trafford but is open to an exit from the side as interest gathers in his signature. ‌ Shaw, 30, appears ready to accept that his Red Devils career is coming to an end. The Southampton academy product is reported to be aware of 'serious' interest from Saudi Arabia. ‌ The England international still has two years remaining on his contract and is in the United squad that travelled to the United States for their pre-season tour. Shaw will be in contention to face West Ham on Sunday and played against Leeds as Ruben Amorim's side returned to action for pre-season. ‌ Shaw will have to battle for his place in the team come the start of the season. While the full-back started in the Europa League final against Tottenham last term, he is set to face competition from the likes of Diogo Dalot, January arrival Patrick Dorgu and summer signing Diego Leon. Dorgu is perhaps favourite to be Amorim's first option at wingback for the new season. There are high hopes for £3.3million man Leon who joined from Cerro Porteno of Paraguay too. The 18-year-old played in the opening half of the draw with Leeds and was praised by head coach Amorim. 'He did really well," said the Portuguese boss. "He's learning things, he's powerful, he's going to be a very good player.' Amorim is said to be in no rush to lose Shaw from his squad, despite the injury-plagued star carrying £150,000-a-week wages. But the versatile defender is keen to secure playing time having missed out on a number of opportunities due to his injury record. ‌ If Shaw decides to leave in the coming months, it appears unlikely that United would stand in his way. The defender has only made 27 appearances across the last two seasons. The 13-times Premier League champions will hope to earn fees from the exits of the likes of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia. United have already facilitated a move for Marcus Rashford but only on loan, despite wanting to bolster their transfer funds. In addition to Leon, United have spent significant sums on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in a bid to revitalise the club's forward line.

Xavi Simons' reps accelerate Chelsea transfer as Blues target four-player clearout

Chelsea are looking to make progress on a number of sales as they seek to push through deals for RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons and Ajax defender Jorrel Hato Xavi Simons' entourage have travelled to RB Leipzig's pre-season training camp as they look to push through the Dutchman's switch to Chelsea. The Blues have identified the 22-year-old attacking midfielder as a primary target and are looking to exploit their strong relations with his agent Ali Barat to get the exciting acquisition over the line. ‌ Chelsea are mindful that both Bayern Munich and Arsenal have also shown interest in Simons, however, there is confidence they already have the approval of the player after presenting their project, including where they expect the former Paris Saint-Germain and PSV starlet to bed into Enzo Maresca's side. ‌ The Club World Cup champions have also started contacts with RB Leipzig, who value Simons around the £60million mark and are now waiting for Chelsea to present a formal bid. ‌ It's understood Simons' brother Faustino, who operates as one of the Holland international's advisors, has travelled to Leipzig's training camp in Donaueschingen, Germany alongside a representative from Barat's agency Epic Sports to accelerate the process. Simons has trained as normal alongside his team-mates all week, though it remains to be seen whether he'll be involved in Saturday's friendly against Toulouse as it's now becoming increasingly clear that his departure is likely to materialise soon. Discussions are also continuing with Ajax for Jorrel Hato and a verbal offer has already been knocked back by the Dutch giants. Hato's omission from Ajax's 5-1 friendly demolition of Celtic on Thursday night was pre-planned as the young defender was late returning to pre-season training following his involvement at the U21 Euros. Meanwhile, Chelsea are seeking to make room within their squad for new arrivals - Juventus' Kenan Yildiz and Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho are admired - with Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson among a list of potential high-profile departures. Benfica are currently in discussions with the Blues over a deal for former player Felix, who they sold to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 for a whopping fee of £113million. Chelsea are effectively looking to recoup the £45m they paid Atletico for the Portuguese attacker last summer but Benfica are unable to get close to that figure. ‌ So far, Benfica have proposed paying a bulk fee worth just over £20m while also offering Chelsea a notable sell-on clause worth up to 50 per cent. Talks with super-agent Jorge Mendes are ongoing to unlock the deal - as Felix has already made it clear he wants to go back to Lisbon - but the operation looks complex. Other formulas and left-field clauses have also been discussed, including Benfica potentially paying the Blues a cut of money if they reject any offers for the attacker in the future. ‌ Felix has been training at Cobham for the past two weeks after being excluded from Chelsea's Club World Cup squad following his six-month loan spell with AC Milan but his future lies away from Stamford Bridge after new signing Dario Essugo took his No.14 shirt upon signing from Sporting CP. Napoli are the latest club to be offered the chance to sign Raheem Sterling, who is admired by Antonio Conte, but any deal would require the England international to take a significant wage cut. Chelsea favour a permanent sale and value Sterling at around £20m but Napoli are only likely to consider a loan which would require the Blues to pay a portion of his wages. ‌ Renato Veiga is still in line to depart after Atletico Madrid withdrew their interest, two unnamed Premier League clubs have made enquiries while Bayern Munich are continuing to monitor the situation. The Blues are not actively looking to sell striker Jackson but would listen to suitable offers, though they value Jackson at upwards of £80m and would use Liverpool's deal to sign Hugo Ekitike as a yardstick during future negotiations. ‌ Manchester United are currently ruling out a straight-cash swoop for Jackson and any move on their part would have to involve other players moving in the opposition direction to west London. Fulham are the latest side to register interest in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and the Cottagers would be open to exploring an initial loan with a buy-option. West Ham also like the ex-Leicester maestro, who could yet remain with Chelsea as he is a popular member of Maresca's squad.

Sol Campbell claims one striker might not be enough to turn Arsenal into champions ahead of Viktor Gyokeres transfer

SOL CAMPBELL claims Viktor Gyokeres' arrival might not be enough to turn Arsenal into champions. The Gunners legend, 50, says his former club 'need TWO strikers' to turn them into top dogs. 2 2 Ex-England defender Campbell lifted the title twice for the North London club and was part of the Invincibles squad - the last Arsenal team to win the Premier League. Arteta lifted the FA Cup in his first season in charge five years ago and has led them to runners-up spot in the top-flight for three consecutive seasons. Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Christian Norgaard are already on board and Gyokeres looks set to join and finally fill the striker void. Many believe this could be Arteta's year - though Campbell, speaking exclusively to The Sun via betting site BetSelect, insists they still need more firepower to go with the ex-Coventry hotshot. He said: 'You need two strikers to trouble other teams. You can't always rely on just one striker as if he gets injured, the team's performance drops. 'So it's important to have a main one and have another really good backup. Sometimes they can play together, sometimes one's on the bench and the other comes on. It can be good to get a slightly older one who's been there, seen it, and done it, and can come on when you need something to happen for 20 minutes, but they're top, top quality. 'If you pick the second striker properly, they can come on to make a difference. That's something you have to do. So if they do get two strikers, they could definitely become champions. 'That's the type of player who has been missing, somebody who has scored 20-25 goals just in the league. It's okay to say, 'he's got all of these goals in all of these competitions,' but that's not good enough; that's not going to win you the Premier League. You need goals to get you over the line and make up point differences.' Campbell also backed Arteta to eventually 'get his moment' and lead the Gunners back to glory. He said: 'Deep down, the players want to win for him. He's desperate to win something. He's doing everything in his power to get that right mentality and that right set of players. He's probably thinking now, 'we've got one chance to do it'. This is the year he'll feel like he's got the right materials and the right players. Declan Rice and the Arsenal squad thank fans for coming out at Singapore match 'He'll get his moment, but when those moments come, he needs the players on the pitch to do the job, whether that's a big save or a big goal in a big game. 'Arteta wants to win something. He knows this team needs to win something. If you get the right centre forward and get everything clicking together, Arsenal have a great chance. 'Every time a player is on the pitch, he has to play his best. You have to be up for it, and he's getting that team together. He's doing the right things and creating the right environment to win.' Campbell is also delighted to see Arsenal getting their transfer business done early. He added: 'It's so important to get the players that you want in. They get a good pre-season and a good month to settle in, and you really start to form that mentality. 'That's when you begin to think - we've got a good squad here, we've got a chance, if you give us the chance, we're going to take it. 'If you've got the right mentality and the right chemistry in the team, they will keep going and want to win. 'The truth is, if you haven't won anything, it's going to be hard to win your first one. Really hard. If you haven't won it, how do you build that confidence to win? Sometimes you need winners. Sometimes you might need to buy a couple of winners. Even a player who's won something in another country. They know what it takes to be a winner.'
