Russia warns against targeting North Korea
He said Moscow respects North Korea's efforts to develop nuclear arms by using its own scientists amid recent military exercises involving the U.S., South Korean and Japanese forces, according to CNN.
The U.S. and its South Korean and Japanese allies conducted a joint aerial training operation on the Korean Peninsula on Friday.
Lavrov warned the United States and its regional allies against targeting North Korea and Russia, Newsweek reported on Saturday.
"No one is considering using force against North Korea despite the military buildup around the country by the United States, South Korea and Japan," Lavrov said of the joint military exercise.
"We respect North Korea's aspirations and understand the reasons why it is pursuing a nuclear development," Lavrov said.
He said Moscow is aware that President Donald Trump recently expressed support for resuming talks with North Korea at the highest level.
"We exchanged views on the situation surrounding the Ukrainian crisis," Lavrov told Russian state media outlet TASS.
"Our Korean friends confirmed their firm support of all the objectives of the special military operation," he said of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
North Korea's Foreign Ministry earlier this week invitedLavrov to visit Pyongyang, which is preparing to deploy between 25,000 and 30,000 soldiers for Russia's continued invasion of Ukraine.
North Korea last year deployed 11,000 soldiers to Russia to help repel a Ukrainian incursion in the Kursk region of Russia.

President Trump on Sunday said that the United States will be sending Patriot air defense munitions to Ukraine, reiterating his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Defense Department last week halted the delivery of some air defense missiles and munitions to Ukraine, citing concerns about U.S. military stockpiles being depleted. The White House at the time confirmed the decision, saying it was made after a review of the U.S. military's backing of other nations around the world. Trump reversed course days later, with the Pentagon saying Tuesday it would send 'additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure the killing stops,' citing Trump's direction for the move. Trump later told reporters that he didn't know who approved the weapons shipment halt.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem clashed with NBC 'Meet the Press' host Kristen Welker in a testy exchange on Sunday over alleged 'inhumane' conditions at the newly-opened Alligator Alcatraz migrant detention facility in the Florida everglades. The detention facility, which currently holds 900 people but has the capacity to hold nearly 4,000, has been under scrutiny after Democratic lawmakers toured the facility on Saturday. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., described the facility as an 'internment camp.' Democratic lawmakers who toured the facility claimed that detainees were subjected to inhumane treatment, unsanitary conditions and sweltering heat. Wasserman Schultz claimed that detainees were forced to drink water from the same sink they use for the bathroom, and were packed into 'wall-to-wall cages.' 'Our detention centers at the federal level are held to a higher standard than most local or state centers and even federal prisons.
