MLA slams govt over cancelled road tenders in Holagunda
Speaking to media persons during a visit to Hebbatam village, where he inspected paddy transplantation along the roadside, the MLA expressed serious concern over the poor condition of the 30-kilometer stretch between Dhanapuram and Holagunda.
He stated that the previous YSRCP government had approved tenders worth Rs.69 crore for the project, but the current regime scrapped them without justification.
Virupakshi said the deteriorating condition of the road is causing immense hardship to local residents.
'Travel has become a nightmare. Despite tall claims by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan about creating pothole-free roads, nothing has been done on the ground,' he remarked.
'As our leader Jagan Mohan Reddy rightly said, Chandrababu's promises are a guaranteed betrayal,' he added. The MLA also mentioned that due to the road's condition, bus services were being cancelled, but he intervened and urged depot officials to resume them.
Targeting Pawan Kalyan, who currently holds the Panchayati Raj portfolio, Virupakshi accused him of showing zero accountability.
'You made promises during elections. Now, where is your commitment? You may be good at making films, but politics requires real work,' he said. He further alleged that the coalition government has taken loans amounting to Rs.1.61 lakh crore but has failed to deliver on key initiatives such as the Super Six welfare schemes.
'Even Amaravati, which was promised to be developed as a world-class capital, hasn't seen a single brick laid,' he said.
Demanding urgent re-tendering of the Dhanapuram–Holagunda road project, the MLA also called on Adoni MLA Parthasarathi to take responsibility, noting that a portion of the road falls within his constituency.
He warned that if Pawan Kalyan fails to respond, YSRCP workers will be compelled to stage protests around his party office. The event saw participation from party leaders across various levels, including mandal conveners, ZPTCs, MPPs, and grassroots functionaries.

Karnataka proposes to amend child marriage law, extend punishment for even engagement
The Karnataka government plans to amend the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act to criminalise not only child marriages but also attempts and preparations for child engagements. A draft of the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025, proposes to insert new sections into the existing Act. 'Punishment for attempt and preparation to make child marriage or attempt and preparation to make engagement of a child,' reads Section 9A in the draft Bill. As per the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, enacted by Parliament, the maximum imprisonment of two years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh are only applicable in cases of child marriage. The proposed Karnataka amendment extends the same provisions to child engagements, too. 'Whoever, make(s) an attempt and preparation to make child marriage, or attempt and preparation to make engagement of a child shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment which may extend to two years or with fine which may extend to one lakh rupees or both,' the draft Bill says. While section 10 of the existing Act relates to 'punishment for solemnising a child marriage', the amendments propose to change it to 'punishment for preparation and solemnising a child marriage'. The draft Bill was based on the directions issued during a meeting of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with deputy commissioners and chief executive officers of all districts on May 31. Noting the recurrence of child marriages in Karnataka, as around 700 cases were reported last year, more stringent regulations were proposed during the meeting, according to sources. Other changes include the insertion of section 12A in the parent law, which will render the engagement of a minor child null and void. Section 13(A), another proposed amendment, empowers courts to 'issue injunction prohibiting child engagement' to 'any person including a member of an organisation or an association of persons prohibiting such engagement'. The Bill is expected to be taken up in the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Karnataka legislature.

Lokesh to inaugurate VR High School today
Nellore: It is unimaginable for poor students to dream of studying in corporate schools due to high costs. However, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana has made this dream a reality by facilitating admissions for 1,050 students from play class to 10th grade at Venkatagiri Rajas High School, now renamed VR Municipal Corporation High School (VRMCHS), located in the heart of Nellore city. HRD Minister Nara Lokesh will inaugurate VRMCHS on Monday (July 7). Students at VRMCHS will receive free breakfast, lunch, snacks, and bus services. Notably, this is the first school to introduce digital education on panel boards with international standards, a pioneering initiative in the region. The P-4 concept, envisioned by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, inspired Narayana, a former student and part-time lecturer at VR institutions, to reopen the school, which had closed in 2021. Nagarjuna Construction Company donated Rs 15 crore for renovations and infrastructure as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. A Venkatamma, a daily-wage laborer from Ranganayakula Pet, expressed gratitude, saying, 'I never dreamed my son could study at VRMCHS. Thanks to Narayana Sir, his corporate education is now a reality.' During the 2024 elections, Narayana noticed many students unable to afford corporate schools due to poverty, prompting him to provide accessible education with philanthropists' support. He stated, 'As a former VR student, I felt responsible for reopening VRMCHS. I'm confident all 54 municipal schools will transform similarly.' Historically, VR High School has a rich legacy. In 1875, Sunkuru Narayana Swamy Chetty founded the Anglo Vernacular School (AVS) with 152 students but stepped down due to financial issues. Later, Haji Mahammodh Rahiman Tullah reopened it after purchasing the land for Rs 2,400, but it closed again by 1886. Raja Krishna Yachendra Bahadur, the 28th Raja of Venkatagiri, established a permanent fund of Rs 50,000, renaming it Venkatagiri Raja School. Eminent figures like former CM Bejawada Gopala Reddy and high court judges studied there. Despite its past glory, VR institutions, including VR Degree College and VR Law College, faced closure in 2021 due to court disputes, leading to VRMCHS's revival.
