Marcos: Over P500M allotted to restore San Juanico bridge load limit
Speaking at the grand launch of Phases 2 and 3 of the National Fiber Backbone (NFB) project in Palo, Leyte, Marcos tasked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the retrofitting and complete restoration of the bridge, citing its burden to residents, businesses, and travelers in the region.
''May higit kalahating bilyong piso na pondo ang nakalaan para maibalik sa labindawala hanggang labinlimang metric tons ang load limit sa susunod na Disyembre,'' Marcos said in his speech.
(More than P500 million was allocated to return the load limit to 12 to 15 metric tons by December.)
Earlier, the President said he wants to increase the load limits of San Juanico Bridge to 12 tons by December this year.
Marcos had apologized to the residents in Samar and Leyte who were affected by the rehabilitation, saying that the government wants to ensure their safety.
In May, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said that the present load limits of San Juanico Bridge amid its rehabilitation might be increased in the next months.
He said the increase in the load limits could be implemented in the last quarter of this year.

The survey has a ±3% margin of error. Those who had much trust in Vice President Sara Duterte went up by a percentage point from 60% in May to 61% in June. Twenty-three percent had little trust in the Vice President, and 14% were undecided in the latest poll Those who said they had much trust in Senate President Francis Escudero increased from 47% in May to 55% in June. Twenty-three percent said they had little trust in Escudero, while 21 percent were undecided in the most recent survey. Speaker Martin Romualdez's 'much trust' increased from 26% in May to 34% in June. Thirty-four percent also had little trust, while 27% were undecided. 'The significant increase in President Marcos' trust rating signals a possible renewed public confidence in his administration,' Stratbase Group President Prof. Victor Andres 'Dindo' Manhit said. Marcos sees spike in agri smuggling as national security threat
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. is seeing the recent spike in agricultural commodity smuggling as a national security threat, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said Monday. Tiu Laurel said Marcos already directed law enforcement and intelligence agencies to assist the Department of Agriculture (DA) in addressing the illicit trade, which affects the country's food security. 'The President has directed the DA to throw the book at the consignees and all those involved in smuggling these agricultural products. By the end of the year, we hope to see many of those responsible handcuffed, facing charges,' Tiu Laurel said in a press release. He said Marcos is concerned about the damage these market-disruptive practices cause to local farmers, fisherfolk, and legitimate businesses. 'This not only harms the economy but fosters corruption at multiple levels,' the DA chief said. Tiu Laurel said he already met with newly appointed Bureau of Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, National Security Adviser Secretary Eduardo Año, Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre, and representatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) ''to devise strategies for targeting smuggling syndicates.'' He added that customs brokers would also face legal consequences as part of efforts to enforce the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Law, the Food Safety Act, and the Customs Code. Dave Gomez to prioritize ‘performance audit' of PCO
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Dave Gomez said Monday that he will prioritize the conduct of performance audit within the agency. ''I need to conduct a fair, honest to goodness, unbiased performance audit of the office...'' Gomez said in an ambush interview with Palace reporters. Gomez sees the performance audit as an ''urgent'' matter, noting that he already started having meetings with officials in the PCO. Included in the audit were the guidelines for members of the media covering President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. and his policies, Gomez said. To recall, the implementation of the guidelines was deferred amid questions raised by the Malacañang Press Corps (MPC). Aside from communicating the programs and policies of the Marcos administration, the fifth PCO chief also vowed to continue the fight against fake news. ''Tuloy-tuloy naman, I mean fake news is doing a lot of disservice to the Filipino people. We need to correct the misinformation and just present the facts as it is to the people,'' Gomez said. Gomez took his oath before President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. this morning.
