JOHN MURDOCH'S DRIVE TIME: We sample the new all-electric van from Kia and reveal how Skoda has teamed up with Amazon to provide new service
In this instalment of John Murdoch's Drive Time, John samples a new all-electric van from Korean giant Kia and reveals how Skoda has teamed up with Amazon to provide a new service for its customers and potential buyers.
Korean giant Kia is entering the van market with its all-electric PV5 multi-role vehicle.
Designed to be everything from a passenger carrier to a load-lugger that can take up to 4.4 cubic metres of cargo it is set to transform the LCV market.
With a very competitive entry price of £22,465 after the government's plug-in grant for low emission vehicles it has a range up to 249 miles and a rapid recharging time of less than half-an-hour to 80 per cent battery capacity.
Without VAT it can be had from £27,645 while the PV5 Passenger 'Essential' entry-grade is priced from £32,995 on-the-road.
Two power versions will be available - one with a 51.5kWh battery and the long range 71.2kWh model - with the smaller capacity model having a range of up to 181 miles.
Shorter than the likes of a Ford Transit Custom, the PV5 is 4.695 metres long and has a tight turning circle of 10.8 metres, meaning it is very manoeuvrable.
At a shade over 1.9 metres high the PV5 can access most car parks and it has been built with features to keep maintenance costs as low as possible such as a three-piece front bumper enabling only damaged portions to be replaced.
The PV5 in its van-oriented Cargo specification comes with two wide-opening rear doors and a low load height of less than 42 centimetres.
Two sliding side doors can be specified - one is standard on the nearside - and maximum payload is 790kg for the standard range version with the longer range model capable of carrying up to 690kg.
The recharging port is sited at the front above the bumper and a full charge can take up to 10 hours from a 7kW charger for the long range model, seven hours for the smaller battery.
As well as the Cargo and Passenger PV5s Kia is also offering Crew and Chassis Cab variants with other lengths and heights slated to arrive later. All are built in a new factory in Korea.
The PV5 is front-wheel drive and has a top speed limited to 84mph with the PV5 Passenger having a best 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 10.7 seconds.
The passenger model will be a five-seater with space for up to 1320 litres of luggage - fold the back seats and there is 2315 litres available.
In the cab there is a 7.5-inch digital instrument panel for the driver as well as a 12-inch central display which can use either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The PV5 had its UK debut at the recent Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham and first deliveries are scheduled later in the year.
A larger PV7 is planned for 2027 with a PV9 due for introduction in 2029.
Moving on to other motoring news, Skoda is the first European brand to offer an Amazon car showroom that integrates real-time new car stock availability where customers are located.
Through this new venture with Amazon, UK customers can browse the full Skoda range, check local availability, request a test drive, and explore finance options - all before visiting a chosen retailer.
By joining forces with Amazon, Skoda is enhancing the browsing experience, providing customers with all the information they need in a familiar online environment before making their decision.
The online showroom showcases the brand's complete model range, from the compact Fabia supermini, to the Kodiaq family SUV, as well as the Czech brand's fully electric models, including the new Elroq and Enyaq.
According to a recent national survey of 2000 UK adults, commissioned by Skoda, 47 per cent of potential customers value being able to research from home when buying a new car.
However, the survey highlights the ongoing importance of physical interaction before purchasing a car.
While 82 per cent of respondents prefer some form of in-person engagement, 78 per cent consider a test drive as essential.
The survey reveals British consumers' shopping habits with 77 per cent of respondents spending up to two hours a day browsing online.
UK customers can now:
Browse and check real-time local stock availability (with cars ready within two-to-four weeks).
Request a test drive.
Explore and calculate finance options.
Compare models.
Importantly, make the purchase in person with a Skoda retailer.
Matthew Bowden, director of Skoda UK, said: 'Online browsing and research are part of everyday life, which is why we're so excited to launch the Skoda showroom at Amazon.
"It gives prospective customers more opportunities to find their next car and see where it's available, all from the comfort of their home.'
The Skoda Amazon showroom is now live at .

DeWalt's ‘quality' 20V reciprocating saw is 38% off at Amazon, and shoppers say it's ‘the best saw ever'
Autoblog aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission. DeWalt is synonymous with great tools and Amazon is synonymous with great deals. So it's no surprise that this Amazon discount on a DeWalt reciprocating saw offering nearly 40% off is worth checking out. DeWalt's 20V Max Reciprocating Saw is on sale for $99, which is 38% off the original $159 price tag. It boasts 10,000-plus five-star ratings at Amazon and shoppers called it 'the best saw ever.' DeWalt 20V Max Reciprocating Saw, $99 (was $159) at Amazon If you're preparing to do some yardwork just in time for spring, this reciprocating saw is here to help. It can cut through branches with ease thanks to its variable speed trigger that delivers up to a whopping 3,000 strokes per minute. This saw will do well indoors as well since the four-position blade clamp allows for flush cutting and hassle-free blade changes. As for safety, the saw grip is made with rubber so you're comfortable while you work and in turn, more in control. Although this battery-powered tool doesn't include one, DeWalt 20V Max batteries are also on sale at Amazon. 'I have used this saw more than a lot of other tools,' one reviewer began. 'I've used it to cut up old lumber, cut branches, saw holes, etc. It's easy to hold and easy to change blades. A quality DeWalt product.' 'I like everything about it when I use it,' another shopper praised. 'I feel like a wood surgeon… I build decks and love the mobility of battery-powered tools. In certain situations I still use power cord saws, but I'm very happy with this purchase and would buy it again with no hesitation.' DeWalt's 20V Max Reciprocating Saw has been purchased over 2,000 times in the past month, meaning it might not be available for long. Or, at the very least, the 38% markdown will disappear. Either way, add this DeWalt device to your Amazon cart ASAP before it's too late. About the Author Daniel Donabedian View Profile

Mid-size Van of the Year 2025: Ford Transit Custom
With electric, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains offered, plus a wide range of trim levels, as well as panel van, Double Cab, MultiCab and even camper options on the table, the Ford Transit Custom has a variant to suit virtually every use case imaginable, making it our category winner in the van's 60th-anniversary year. Advertisement - Article continues below Keep things basic, and the standard Leader model with 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel power delivers a no-nonsense drive in two body lengths. But if you need to carry passengers, then the six-seat Double Cab In-Van could be for you. This comes in a wider range of trims, including the rugged adventure-inspired Trail option and racy Sport and MS-RT specs (which are also offered on the standard panel van), and given that the Transit Custom delivers such a grown-up drive, this could easily double as family transport. Somewhere in between the two sits the MultiCab, with a five-seat layout (three in the front, two in the back) and an L-shaped bulkhead so long items can still fit in the cargo bay. The strong diesel engines deliver good efficiency and power, while the electrified e-Transit Custom adds hushed refinement to the mix. There's even a performance-orientated model in MS-RT guise, where the electric powertrain is turned up to 281bhp (up from 215bhp as standard) to help give it the grunt to match the racier looks. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below Overall, the Transit Custom sets the standard by which all other medium-sized panel vans must be judged, and it will have to be a very strong contender to knock the Ford off the number one position next year. Advertisement - Article continues below Our Find A Car service has the best deals out there on a new car from stock or top prices on used cars ... There's huge variety in the Transit Custom line-up, but the five-seat Double Cab In-Van variant stands out because it could be a more practical alternative to a pick-up truck, now that the tax regime for the latter has changed. It doesn't carry as much as the standard panel van, but the versatile second-row seats means it could double as family transport. There's so little between the Citroen Dispatch, Fiat Scudo, Peugeot Expert and Vauxhall Vivaro that we commended all four. They deliver car-like driving characteristics and excellent safety features, plus the choice of diesel and electric powertrains. Volkswagen's new arrival picks up where the old Transporter left off, by offering quality and capability in a great all-round package. There are standard and long wheelbases, diesel and electric power, while the Standard, Plus and Pro trims offer an increasing amount of luxury through the range. Small Company Car of the Year 2025: Kia EV3
Kia has hit a hot streak with its electric cars. The flagship EV9 won our Large Company Car title in 2024 and its striking design has now shrunk down to VW Golf-size to create the EV3. The result is another winner, thanks to its mix of long-range electric efficiency, thoughtful practicality and good running costs. Advertisement - Article continues below The base 58kWh model (£33,005) can do 270 miles, but spend £3k more for the 81kWh battery and you'll add 100 miles. It also gets 127.5kW DC charging for a 10 to 80 per cent top-up in 30 minutes. We've averaged 3.3mi/ kWh in winter and 4.6 mi/ kWh in warm weather. Kia's EV is easy to drive, with great visibility, nicely weighted steering and snappy throttle responses. It also has a broad spread of braking modes, to harvest energy. Motorway noise could be better, though. Inside, the EV3 packs decent tech even at entry level: dual 12.3-inch displays, adaptive cruise control, heated seats, nav, plus front and rear parking sensors are standard. Boot space is best-in-class and the car's width gives an airy feel with lots of shoulder room, even if the back seats are better for kids than adults. Running costs are critical for company cars, and like all EVs, the EV3 qualifies for Benefit-in-Kind tax at just three per cent of the car's value. It depreciates as well as its VW and Cupra rivals and is covered by Kia's seven-year warranty. It all adds up to another winning Kia. Configure your perfect Kia EV3 through our Find A Car service now. Alternatively, check out the best deals out there on a new Kia EV3 from stock or top prices on used Kia EV3 models... Our choice Kia EV3 Air 81.4kWh (£36,005) The entry-level Air has pretty much all the kit you need; the one option we'd recommend is the £3k upgrade to the bigger battery. That creates the EV3 with the biggest range – 375 miles. It also lets you add £625 metallic paint without busting the £40k luxury-tax surcharge barrier. Commended Hyundai Kona The futuristic-looking Hyundai Kona, last year's class leader, gets nudged into silver-medal position. There's a Kona for everyone, with a choice of petrol, hybrid and electric drivetrains, plus it offers plenty of space and a comfortable, refined drive. MG4 The budget choice is the MG4 EV. With rear-wheel drive, responsive steering and a comfortable suspension, it's the most fun to drive of our contenders. The styling and fiddly touchscreen won't suit all, but the powertrain choice is broad and the biggest battery will do 329 miles.
