Kayla White dominates at HBCU
For her career, White won 17 MEAC indoor and outdoor sprint and hurdle titles at HBCU track factory North Carolina A&T from 2016 to 2019.The Miami, Florida native secured her first career win at the 2016 MEAC Indoor Championships. She claimed the 60-meter hurdles title in 8.39 seconds. That spring, she followed up with an outdoor title in the 100-meter hurdles and added a win in the 4×100 relay.
Eventually, White won the MEAC 60-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles titles in each of her four years with the Aggies. In total, she added MEAC 4×100 relay titles in 2017, 2018, and 2019. She also swept the 100 and 200-meter titles during her junior and senior seasons.
At the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships, she finished second in the 60-meter hurdles. She also placed second in the NCAA Outdoor 100-meter final.
White vs. Richardson: A Rivalry in the Making
White has faced Sha'Carri Richardson multiple times as a pro. She defeated the Olympic gold medalist in the 200 meters at the inaugural Botswana Grand Prix on April 29, 2023.
While there's no doubt more battles are ahead, White came out on top in their latest showdown - winning the 100m on Friday.

The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers have one of the oldest rivalries in the NBA, but that doesn't mean they can't learn from each other. In fact, Sixers rookie VJ Edgecombe is already studying the Celtics, viewing highlights of guard Derrick White to see how he can thrive as a two way player. The Big 12 Freshman of the Year is the same position as White and nearly the same height, generating some easy comparisons. Edgecombe joined Sixers teammate Paul George on the "Podcast P" show and discussed how White, ex-Celtic Jrue Holiday, and 2025 NBA champion Lu Dort are influencing his defensive game. "I watch defensive clips," he said. "I'm watching Jrue Holiday, Derrick Dort. I'm watching them. Just trying to learn both ends of the floor. They're the main people I watch." It's no secret that the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft has two-way potential. Edgecombe's athleticism helps him on both sides of the floor, as he averaged 15 points per game during his freshman year while recording 68 steals, the most of any frosh in the history of Baylor basketball. White, who was the second-to-last pick of the first round back in 2017, wasn't as highly regarded as Edgecombe in college. However, the former D-II hooper developed into a two-way stud and helped the Celtics win it all in 2024. The injured 2025-26 Celtics are far from that title team at the moment, leaving the Sixers with the more palpable championship aspirations. But, Philadelphia isn't completely healthy either due to center Joel Embiid's lurking knee issues and Paul George's summer surgery. As a result, White and Edgecombe will be asked to step up for their respective squads next season. And since the Celtics and Sixers both inhabit the Atlantic Division, White and Edgecombe are destined for an on-court battle in the coming months. Trump plans White House task force on security for the 2028 L.A. Olympics
WASHINGTON — President Trump will order the establishment of a White House task force on Tuesday focused on security for the Olympics Games in Los Angeles in 2028. Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said the president plans on creating the task force by executive order on Tuesday, telling The Times that Trump 'considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle.' 'During his first term, President Trump was instrumental in securing America's bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles,' Leavitt said. 'Sports is one of President Trump's greatest passions, and his athletic expertise, combined with his unmatched hospitality experience will make these Olympic events the most exciting and memorable in history.' The executive order follows on Trump's signature legislation, referred to by the president as the 'big beautiful bill,' securing $1 billion for security, planning and other costs for the L.A. Games. Planning for the games is being led by the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, or LA28, a privately funded non-profit organization. Casey Wasserman, chairperson and president of LA28, thanked the Trump administration in a statement 'for their leadership and unwavering support as we prepare to deliver the largest and most ambitious Olympic and Paralympic Games ever hosted in the United States.' 'Since we secured this historic opportunity in 2017, President Trump has consistently recognized the magnitude of our responsibility in welcoming the world to Los Angeles,' Wasserman said. 'The creation of this task force marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028.'

HBCU drops tennis programs in re-alignment
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), a leading HBCU located in Texas, has announced the immediate end of its Men's and Women's Tennis programs. The move is part of a larger plan to reshape Panther Athletics for long-term stability and a better student-athlete experience. This decision follows a full review of the university's athletic programs. With college sports changing quickly, PVAMU and many other HBCU athletic departments must make hard choices to remain competitive while staying true to their mission. By realigning its resources, the university aims to focus on sports that serve more student-athletes and better fit its long-term goals. Honoring a Proud Legacy While Planning Ahead For years, PVAMU's tennis teams have reflected the spirit of HBCU pride-on the court and in the classroom.
