The Kanwar Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage in which devotees of Lord Shiva travel—mostly on foot—to collect holy water from the Ganga River and offer it at Shiva temples.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday showered flower petals on Kanwar yatris in Meerut and other districts of the state in a heartfelt gesture.
He also addressed a press conference in Meerut, where he warned the miscreants attempting to defame the Kanwar Yatra.
'I extend heartfelt greetings to all devotees in this auspicious month of Sawan. Lakhs of Shiva bhakts from across the country are collecting the holy waters of the Ganga from Haridwar to perform Jalabhishek at revered temples like Baba Aughadnath, Pura Mahadev, and Dudheshwarnath," he said.
The UP CM further added, 'It is heartening to see enthusiastic participation from people of all age groups, youth, women, children, and the elderly—creating a beautiful expression of social harmony."
He highlighted the arrangements made for the occasion, also underscoring that some anti-social elements are conspiring to malign it.
'It is the responsibility of every Kanwar Sangh and every Shiv bhakt to expose such elements and immediately inform the authorities. The entire Yatra route is under CCTV surveillance, and once the Yatra concludes, strict action will be taken against those identified. Their posters will also be displayed publicly," he stated.
CM Yogi asked the devotees to maintain basic hygiene during the pilgrimage. He noted that 'Shiv bhakts should walk with a spirit of public welfare and remain mindful of not causing inconvenience to others."
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also launched a scathing attack at the previous governments, saying they did not support or respect 'such sacred pilgrimages."
Calling for cooperation in preserving the sanctity of the Yatra, he concluded, 'If anyone receives information about any mischief-makers, they should inform the administration instead of taking the law into their own hands. This Yatra is a symbol of devotion and harmony. Lord Shiva is the god of universal welfare, and his blessings are for all. It is our shared responsibility to keep this divine journey free from violence and disorder."

Thai, Cambodian Troops Exchange Fire At Disputed Border As Tensions Escalate

Last Updated: The clash came shortly after Thailand closed northeastern border crossings with Cambodia and said it was withdrawing its ambassador and expelling the Cambodian ambassador. Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged gunfire at a disputed border point near the ancient temple site of Prasat Ta Muen Thom in Thailand's Surin province early on Thursday, escalating tensions between the two neighbours. Armed clashes broke out between Thailand and Cambodia along a disputed area, where both countries are accusing each other of firing the first shots after weeks of simmering tension and diplomatic spats. The clash came shortly after Thailand closed northeastern border crossings with Cambodia and said it was withdrawing its ambassador and expelling the Cambodian ambassador to protest a land mine blast in which a Thai soldier lost a leg. Following this, Cambodia responded, stating that it was downgrading diplomatic relations with Thailand to their lowest level and recalling all Cambodian staff from its embassy in Bangkok. Thai authorities said the soldiers were injured, with one losing a foot, by a landmine while on a patrol on July 16 on the Thai side of the disputed border area between Ubon Ratchathani and Cambodia's Preah Vihear Province. The embassy said in a Facebook post that Thais should leave Cambodia 'as soon as possible" unless they had urgent reasons to remain. Relations between the Southeast Asian neighbors have deteriorated sharply since May when a Cambodian soldier was killed in an armed confrontation in one of several small patches of land both countries claim as their own territory. 'Udaipur Files Is Deeply Communal': Arshad Madani Moves Supreme Court Against Clearance To The Film

In his petition, Madani argues that Udaipur Files promotes a dangerous narrative by portraying Indian Muslims as sympathisers or agents of Pakistani terrorists. Islamic scholar Maulana Arshad Madani has filed strong objections before the Supreme Court against the clearance granted to the controversial film Udaipur Files by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's screening committee. Madani, president of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, contends that the film's content is not only factually misleading but also deeply communal in nature. In his petition, Madani argues that Udaipur Files promotes a dangerous narrative by portraying Indian Muslims as sympathisers or agents of Pakistani terrorists. 'These narratives do not merely concern India-Pakistan tensions but actively portray Indian Muslims as inherently disloyal, sympathetic to, or working at the behest of terror groups," he stated in court filings. Such depictions, he argues, are both mala fide and aimed at stoking communal tensions across the country. He has also raised serious concerns over the manner in which the film received approval. Madani alleges that the Ministry's screening committee order lacked proper reasoning and failed to adequately respond to his detailed objections. 'The committee's report simply records some submissions and suggests six inconsequential changes, without analysing the broader communal implications," he claimed. Furthermore, Madani has alleged a 'conflict of interest" in the composition of the screening committee. Since the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) had already granted certification to the film — a decision under challenge — Madani argues that delegating the matter to a committee largely comprising CBFC members undermines the credibility of the review process. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
