Texas Longhorns add five-star kicker to 2026 class The Longhorns kicking game got a major boost on Sunday
The Texas Longhorns have made another significant addition to their 2026 class. On Sunday, they got a commitment from five-star kicker Jake Collett. The Georgia native is the tenth player to join the Longhorns 2026 class. He chose the Longhorns over various programs, including UConn and Army.
Over the last few years, Collett has made headlines with his leg. In Kohl Kicking's rankings, he ranked as the No. 2 overall kicker and No. 60 punter in his class. The newest Longhorn set himself apart at the 2025 Midwest Showcase Camp, where he showed off his range of up to 65 yards.
" Collett had his best showing to date at the 2025 Midwest Showcase Camp," Kohl's scouting report said. "He was dominant throughout the drill work and competitions. He won the kickoff competition and had a couple of kickoffs go 75-80 yards with 4.3 seconds of hang time. Collett also showed consistent field goal range out to 65 yards away at camp."
Collett joins a 2026 class that is full of talent. It also includes five-stars like quarterback Dia Bell, long snapper Trott O'Neal, and athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr., four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon, and three-star talents like wide receiver Chris Stewart, offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson, and safety Yaheim Riley. That group could continue growing with plenty of talent left on the board.
With Collett now officially in the mix, excitement is building over what his future holds. If he can meet expectations, his career in Austin will be full of unforgettable kicks.
Texas begins its regular season against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Aug. 30. That is a game Collett and many of his future teammates will be watching closely.

Why one Texas player called Kirby Smart a maniac

Texas Longhorns senior safety Michael Taaffe was one of three Texas players in Atlanta for the 2025 SEC media days. Taaffe along with the rest of Texas is confident ahead of the 2025 college football season. The Longhorns have much to be confident about. Texas is returning a wealth of talent and advanced to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff last season before falling to the eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Texas missed out on one of its goals: to win the SEC championship. The Georgia Bulldogs beat Texas in Austin with a dominant defensive performance and then toppled Texas in overtime in the SEC championship game. Taaffe and Texas will try to beat Georgia again in 2025, but this time it will be on the road. At SEC media days, Taaffe was asked what will be the difference this year to give Texas a huge SEC win. "Coach (Kirby) Smart is one of the most competitive coaches I have ever been against in my life," said Taaffe. "Like, physically hearing him on the sideline when I'm playing defense. I'm like who is this maniac?" "And it is their head coach trying to, you know, get a call or get something in and I think the team is embodied by the head coach. And he does a great job of embodying what their team is all about and to be honest, I think they out-physicaled us in that first game, so we gotta come with a physical nature and a sense of pride and knowing that if we want to get to where we want to go in December, then we gotta beat those guys," Taaffe said. Georgia and Texas will meet in Sanford Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Georgia-Texas game will be UGA's final SEC game of the regular season and it could be a preview of the 2025 SEC championship. Georgia and Texas' rivalry grew significantly on the same day Georgia and Texas took the stage at SEC media days. Texas beat out Georgia for five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson and then flipped five-star Georgia defensive line commitment James Johnson. The Dawgs and Longhorns have a budding rivalry and are vying to be the best in the SEC. This article originally appeared on UGA Wire: Star Texas safety calls Georgia coach Kirby Smart a maniac

'About 70%': Injured Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown turns heads with camp highlight

Matt Eberflus' defense continues to take the ball away — Malik Hooker grabbing the defense's third interception of the day (mix of QBs).Dak Prescott repaid this one with a touchdown throw to George battle is on. #Cowboys #TrainingCamp Training camp highlights, while fun to watch in the downtime of summer's dog days, typically don't offer too much in the way of deep insight. On any given play, a team may be trying out a new personnel package, working on one specific assignment, or implementing some tiny wrinkle that may never see the light of day come September. Then of course, there's the obvious: no tackling. No hitting. Heck, guys aren't even wearing pants. This isn't real football yet, because no one is putting in 100% maximum effort. But one moment from the Cowboys' work session on Thursday nevertheless turned heads for what one player showed while not even taking part in the action. The play was a goal-to-go situation from about the 6-yard-line. After eluding a nice pass rush from rookie defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku (who has had a brilliant camp thus far, by all accounts, and left Tyler Guyton stabbing at air), quarterback Dak Prescott rolls to his right and fires toward the back of the end zone, where wide receiver George Pickens was waiting. Pickens went up for the catch, but so did safety Malik Hooker, a few steps in front of him. Hooker reeled in the interception one-handed and took off in the other direction. It was an impressive pick from a defense that is making a habit of it this year in Oxnard, and a play worthy of attention all by itself. But then DeMarvion Overshown takes over the clip. From his starting position- out of bounds and behind Pickens- the non-helmeted linebacker- who is supposed to be just observing as he rehabs a brutal knee injury- streaks into view, blows past literally everyone else on the field, and escorts Hooker to the opposite end zone in a celebration that completely upstaged his teammate's dynamite grab. What should be even more exciting for Cowboys fans: after his eye-popping sprint went viral on social media, Overshown came out and admitted that he's still holding back as he continues his comeback bid. "That was about 70%," Overshown said on X. The ex-Longhorns star is already a fan favorite, despite having appeared in just 13 games going into his third season. After missing his entire rookie year with an ACL tear, Overshown suffered a triple tear of the ACL, MCL, and PCL in Week 14. Despite that significant setback, the 24-year-old has set his sights on returning to play this year, setting for himself a target date of Thanksgiving. He's in fact so motivated by his progress that he's even talked openly of claiming the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year honors. And while he's still just working with the rehab group at camp, he is, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, staying mentally engaged by affixing himself to the hip of defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, learning the system and talking through calls in preparation to wear the green dot once he does return. "I think that's the next step," Schottenheimer explained to reporters this week. But prepping to eventually handle signal-calling duties for the defense didn't stop Overshown on Thursday from sprinting to celebrate with them- albeit prematurely- after his teammate's acrobatic pick. It's only July, but that two-for-one highlight should be reason enough for Cowboys fans to feel good about where the defense- and Overshown- are. Duke highlights Longhorns basketball non-conference schedule reveals

plan accordingly 🤘📆#HookEm With the college basketball season quickly approaching, it's time for fans to start marking their calendars. On Thursday, the Texas Longhorns men's basketball team unveiled its non-conference schedule. The Longhorns' regular season is full of marquee matchups that fans will not want to miss. Texas will open its season on November 4th in the Dick Vitale Invitational against Duke at Charlotte's Spectrum Center. It will mark the first meeting between the two historic programs in eight years. Four days later, the Longhorns will begin a four-game homestand. During that stretch, Lafayette, Fairleigh Dickinson, Kansas City, and Rider will make the trip to Austin. The Nov 18 matchup against Rider will be the Longhorns' first-ever game against the Broncos. Starting on Nov.24, Texas will hit the road for the Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center. Although pairings have not been announced, it will be a good early-season test. The other programs participating in the three-day tournament are Arizona State, Boise State, Chaminade, NC State, Seton Hall, USC, and Washington State. Following the Maui Invitational, Texas will return to the Moody Center for the ACC/SEC Challenge. They will take on Virginia on December 3rd. Five days later, they will welcome Southern to town. The Longhorns have only faced the Jaguars once in program history and emerged with a win. After that brief two-home stand, Texas will go on a tour of the East Coast. That will include a highly anticipated match against UConn on December 12th. They will also face Le Moyne and Maryland Eastern Shore during that trip. That will mark the first matchups in men's basketball against both the Dolphins and the Hawks. While fans still have to wait a few months to see Sean Miller and the reshaped roster in action, they can finally start deciding which games to attend to show their support.
