Owen Farrell summoned by Lions after Elliot Daly ruled out of tour by broken arm
Daly broke his left forearm on Wednesday in the 52-12 win over the Queensland Reds in Brisbane.
'It is heartbreaking for the group that Elliot's tour is over,' Lions coach Andy Farrell said in a statement. "He is a Lions legend who has added so much to the group on and off the field over the past few weeks and over the course of three tours.
'Owen will now come in and add to our options and bring his own Lions experience to the group.'
Owen Farrell will join his fourth tour, having played 18 times for the Lions, including six tests across 2013, 2017 and 2021.
However, he hasn't played an international since leading England at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, after which he took a break from test rugby. He earned 112 England caps and is the team's all-time points record-holder.
Owen Farrell also hasn't played any rugby in two months. He was concussed on May 4 while playing for Racing 92 in his last game for the French Top 14 side. He recently signed a new deal to return to his old English club Saracens.
He won't arrive in Sydney until Friday, too late to be involved in the game against the New South Wales Waratahs on Saturday.
Tadhg Beirne will lead the Lions, returning to the second row to partner fellow Ireland lock James Ryan.
Fullback Hugo Keenan and wing Blair Kinghorn will make their Lions debuts.
Keenan was withdrawn from the Queensland game after falling ill, while Kinghorn joined the Lions only on Monday after helping Toulouse win the Top 14 title last weekend.
Northampton clubmates Alex Mitchell and Fin Smith are the halves and Scotland duo Sione Tuipulotu and Huw Jones are the centers.

Raducanu frustrated by racket tension problem in Wimbledon loss to Sabalenka
LONDON (AP) — Emma Raducanu expressed frustration with having to get a couple of her rackets re-strung during her third-round loss to top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon on Friday. The British player let leads slip in both sets of her 7-6 (6), 6-4 loss at Centre Court with the retractable roof closed. 'I felt like the ball was flying. I had all my rackets strung up fresh for the match, and it just felt like it was pinging completely different,' Raducanu said. 'It could have been a little bit because the roof was on. I sent a couple rackets to be re-strung. 'But it takes, like, 20 minutes by the time they turn it over. Still, it was a bit difficult. So I'm frustrated with that part maybe, small details. But I don't think I could have made different choices. I think I should have just executed better.' Sabalenka agreed 'the balls were flying more,' she suspected, because of higher humidity with the roof closed. The three-time Grand Slam champion said her team typically has extra rackets ready. 'They always have like two extra rackets with the higher tension and two extra rackets with lower tension. They prepare it. You don't have to wait for another racket,' Sabalenka said. Sabalenka said she lost in the 2023 French Open semifinals to Karolina Muchova 'because I didn't have racket' with the right tension. 'We weren't prepared. I didn't have a right tension. I had to play with a lower tension. I didn't control the ball, didn't feel well,' she said. 'After that experience,' she continued, 'we learned it's four extra rackets in my team's bag just in case. You never know. You can wake up and feel great with one tension. Another day you wake up and you don't feel at all. You got to be prepared.' ___ AP tennis:

SEATTLE (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his 34th and 35th home runs to set a career high and match Ken Griffey Jr.'s Seattle record for homers before the All-Star break, helping the Mariners beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 on Friday The major league leader turned on a fastball from Bailey Falter (6-4) in the first inning and walloped it well past the wall in left. The exit velocity on the two-run shot was logged at 115.2 mph, per Statcast — the hardest-hit ball of his career. Raleigh topped his previous career high — set last season — in the sixth with a solo shot that chased Falter. The Mariners only mustered one other hit off the left-hander, but it was also a home run courtesy of Randy Arozarena in the fourth inning. Mariners starter Bryan Woo (8-4) went six innings.
