MB: Selangor on track to minimise water disruptions
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd has welcomed the state government's implementation of the Water Resources Assurance Scheme (Skim Jaminan Air Mentah or SJAM).
SJAM is an initiative to ensure continuous clean water supply, even in the event of raw water source pollution.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari witnessed the handover ceremony and commissioning of the SJAM Pump Stations (packages A and C) in Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor.
The event marked a critical milestone in Selangor's long-term strategy to address raw water pollution, which has caused major water supply disruptions since 2020.
SJAM aims to ensure the continuous operation of main water treatment plants and prevent water supply interruptions.
The system uses alternative raw water supply from the Hybrid Off-River Augmentation Storage (Horas) 600 and Hang Tuah Pond.
It is channelled directly to the inlet of water treatment plants at Rantau Panjang, Sungai Selangor Phase (SSP) 1, SSP 2 and SSP 3, thus bypassing any polluted river sources.
'SJAM is not only aimed at tackling pollution, but it is also part of the state's long-term plan to ensure the continuity of raw water supply in the face of climate change and drought,' Amirudin said in his speech.
'I am confident that with SJAM, Selangor is now better equipped to prevent up to 95% of treatment plant shutdowns caused by river pollution,' he added.
State infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim launched Package B under the same scheme last November.
Air Selangor chief executive officer Adam Saffian Ghazali said, 'Air Selangor welcomes the SJAM project as it not only protects the continuity of our water treatment plant operations but also strengthens public confidence in reliability of the water system in Selangor.'
'As the implementation partner, Air Selangor will continue working closely with the state government and relevant agencies to ensure the system operates efficiently for the benefit of our 9.62 million consumers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.'
Adam Saffian said Air Selangor also supported the state government's multi-layered approach to water sustainability, which includes the Zero-Discharge Policy, Polluters Pay Principle and river-monitoring programmes in collaboration with non-governmental organisations.
Also present at the handover ceremony were Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, Selangor Deputy State Secretary (Development) Datuk Johary Anuar and Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San.

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has reiterated that the selection of Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd as the operator for the Smart Intelligent Parking System (SIP) followed an open tender process. The appointment was made after a thorough evaluation involving 26 companies that responded to the Request for Proposal (RFP). Amirudin explained that Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI conducted a verification process before shortlisting eligible candidates for state government approval. 'MBI prioritises the state's interests and does not grant full control to any party,' he said after the 2025 Selangor Platform Strategic Partner Synergy and Appreciation Ceremony (PLATS). The statement comes amid public concerns over the legality of privatising public car parks, which fall under the Ministry of Transport's jurisdiction. Local councils are delegated to manage parking enforcement and fee collection under Section 72 of the Road Transport Act 1987. The SIP aims to streamline parking fee collections across local authorities, starting with Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) from August 1. The system targets low compliance rates, currently at 30%, while addressing issues like double parking and weak enforcement. Revenue distribution will allocate 40% to local councils, 10% to MBI, and 50% to the concessionaire handling collections and enforcement. Amirudin noted that the percentage could be renegotiated, considering the company's high operational costs, including CCTV installation. Selangor Targets 100,000 Entrepreneurs Joining Plats By End Of Year
SHAH ALAM, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government aims to get 100,000 entrepreneurs to participate in the Platform Selangor (PLATS) programme by the end of this year, by focusing on expanding participation to traders of wet and dry goods in public markets. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said this is aimed at attracting more entrepreneurs to be involved in the digital ecosystem through the programme under the supervision of the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI). He added that, so far, about 88,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) had registered with PLATS, thus exceeding its stipulated target of 50,000 participants this year. "We will try to add more benefits, privileges to attract new entrepreneurs to join PLATS, in addition to empowering those who have already joined the initiative, including through digital transformation that has been implemented for the traders involved. "In Selangor, we still have many traders, hawkers, stalls that we can approach. One example is the method we implemented at the Section 6 Market and, if this project is successful, we can expand it to many more markets which come under other local authorities,' he said. He told reporters this after officiating the 2024/2025 PLATS Strategic Partner Synergy and Appreciation Programme here today. Amirudin said PLATS, which is currently in the consolidation phase, needs to expand the involvement of all fields of entrepreneurship or traders compared to just focusing on eateries, restaurants, hawkers and night markets previously. To further enhance the platform, he said they have forged a strategic collaboration with six new synergy partners - Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (Pernas), MYNIC Berhad, Selangor Technical Skill Development Centre (STDC), SIRIM Berhad, Media Selangor Sdn Bhd and Red Giant Creative House Sdn Bhd. PLATS was introduced during Ramadan 2022, when the country implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO), to assist hawkers, micro traders and entrepreneurs adapt to the digital economic environment, in addition to overcoming economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

S'gor MB says will look into outsourced parking fees for four local authorities
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari promises to look into the issue of the state outsourcing parking fee collection for four local authorities. 'I will look into this again since the issue has been brought up,' he said during a press conference at a Selangor Platform strategic partners appreciation ceremony at the Selangor state secretariat building in Shah Alam Tuesday (July 15). He said the comments made by Selangor local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim on the privatisation of the parking issue were accurate. It was previously reported that Ng said the state government was moving towards a Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) initiative to ensure that the management and maintenance of on-street parking in Selangor was modernised and equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Amirudin said the state received 26 Requests for Proposal and Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) had the interest of Selangor in mind with regard to the parking matter. 'We do not want to award it to just any party,' he said. He added that the new party would be investing between RM200mil and RM300mil to improve parking facilities, including installing of closed-circuit television cameras. Amirudin said enforcement would be conducted by the respective local authorities. 'Before this, we had private companies where some were effective in collecting parking fees while others were not,' he said, adding that MBI would monitor the new party.
