Mizoram shines in NITI Aayog's SDG Index; Hnahthial Ranks first in Northeast

Aizwal (Mizoram) [India], July 9 (ANI): Mizoram has emerged as one of the top-performing states in the NITI Aayog's North Eastern Region SDG Index 2023-24, with all 11 districts achieving 'Front Runner' status. Among them, Hnahthial district leads the entire Northeast region with a score of 81.4, followed closely by Champhai at 79.8, according to an official statement. In the SDG Index, districts scoring between 65 and 99 are classified as Front Runners. This milestone reflects Mizoram's significant progress in areas such as health, education, gender equality, clean water, and sustainable communities, the statement read. Mizoram is among just three states, alongside Sikkim and Tripura, where every district made it to the Front Runner category. The index is the first district-level tool for tracking progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Northeast. Despite overall regional progress, NITI Aayog noted slight declines in clean energy, inequality reduction, and responsible consumption. Still, Mizoram's consistent performance places it at the forefront of sustainable development efforts in the region. Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state has secured the first position in the country in the 2023-24 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) index released by NITI Aayog. Addressing a public gathering in Haridwar, CM Dhami said, 'I am pleased to inform you that, in the 2023-24 index of the Government of India's NITI Aayog, Uttarakhand has ranked first in the entire country in achieving the goals of sustainable development.' Highlighting the state's progress, Dhami credited the achievement to Uttarakhand's balanced growth approach. (ANI)

State saw growth in sustainable development goals: CM Adityanath

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said Uttar Pradesh has made remarkable progress on Sustainable Development Goals, improving its SDG score from 42 in 2018-19 to 67 in 2023-24 and elevating from 'Performer' to 'Front Runner' category. He said the state also climbed 11 spots from the 29th position to the 18th on the national SDG Index, recording the 'most significant' improvement by any state during this period, according to an official statement issued after a high-level meeting. 'This is the result of clear policy direction, effective implementation of schemes, and active public participation,' Adityanath said. This achievement is not just about improved scores, it reflects real change reaching the last person in society, he said. The CM highlighted the crucial role of state-run schemes such as 'Har Ghar Jal', 'Har Ghar Bijli', 'Kanya Sumangala', 'Poshan Abhiyan', 'Mukhyamantri Arogya Yojana', 'Mission Shakti', 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana', 'Mission Kayakalp', and 'One District One Product' in achieving SDGs at the grassroots level. —With PTI Inputs

Women Economic Empowerment Index to guide gender-inclusive policies in state, says Adityanath

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday was presented with the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Index, a landmark report by the Planning Department and Udayati Foundation designed to assess how government schemes benefit women and drive gender-inclusive, evidence-based policymaking across Uttar Pradesh. Describing it as a 'historic step', the CM said the index will promote dignity and self-reliance among women statewide. Covering all 75 districts, the WEE Index measures performance on five key parameters: entrepreneurship, employment, education and skill development, livelihood, and safety and transportation infrastructure. It provides insights into which districts are effectively extending benefits to women and where targeted interventions are required. The chief minister directed that the WEE index be integrated into the Chief Minister's Control Room for real-time monitoring. 'All departments must treat the index as a foundational tool for policymaking and tracking outcomes. Departments should formulate actionable plans based on the index, prioritizing women's empowerment in their respective areas. District-level strategies must be developed to localize the impact of state schemes,' the CM directed. The presentation highlighted districts like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Varanasi, where women have reportedly been benefited from government initiatives. However, districts such as Shravasti, Sambhal, Mahoba, Balrampur, and Sidharth Nagar were flagged for urgent intervention. CM Yogi directed that targeted campaigns be launched under the ODOP Margin Money Scheme in Banda, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Mahoba, Shravasti, and Sitapur to ensure greater inclusion of women. To expand women's participation in the workforce and governance, the CM Yogi asked that recruitment drives for home guards and teachers follow the example set in police hiring, giving priority to women. He also stressed the need to boost women's enrollment in technical institutes, vocational programs and skill-training centers, and to establish 'Re-enrolment Units' in every district to bring back women who have dropped out of courses. Yogi highlighted the importance of paramedical institutes to support women's careers in healthcare and the service sector. He further advocated increasing women's roles in public transport as drivers and conductors, backed by specialized training and support facilities.
