School van in NSE crash rear-ended trailer stalled by engine trouble, Johor cops confirm
Johor Baru North District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, said the incident was reported at 6.23pm, and a video of the crash had since gone viral on social media, according to a report published in Buletin TV3 today.
'Investigations revealed the accident happened around 2pm, involving a school van driven by a 46-year-old local man. The van was travelling from the Bandar Dato Onn exit towards northern Johor Baru when it collided with the rear of a trailer that had stopped in the lane due to engine trouble.
'As a result of the collision, the van driver and two of the 21 schoolchildren on board sustained injuries and were treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital.
'The 32-year-old trailer driver was uninjured,' he said in a statement last night.
The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failing to control a vehicle, leading to an accident.
Earlier, media reports stated that the school van driver was injured after being trapped in the driver's seat following the collision with the trailer.
The victim was successfully extricated by Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel within 30 minutes before being sent to hospital.

Cops hunt couple who abandoned car after it plunged into Langat river
KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — Police are tracking down a married couple who fled after the vehicle driven by one of them plunged into the Langat River in Hulu Langat earlier today. Kajang District Police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the police received a report at 9.30am from a member of the public that a car had fallen into the river at Jalan Kuari Sungai Long. According to Naazron, eyewitnesses living near the area reported hearing a loud noise from the direction of the river around 9am and saw a man and a woman exiting the vehicle before fleeing the scene. 'Further inspection by police, with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department, confirmed that no individuals were inside the vehicle when it was recovered, and no casualties were reported,' he said in a statement yesterday. He said police had traced the vehicle's owner, who revealed that the car had been rented to a man and later borrowed by the couple involved before the incident occurred. Search underway in Miri for fisherman feared attacked by crocodile
MIRI, July 9 — A search and rescue (SAR) operation will resume this morning for a 58-year-old fisherman who is feared to have been attacked and dragged away by a crocodile yesterday afternoon. Karim Osman was last known to have been fishing alone by the riverbank near Kampung Pandam in Limbang. According to a police report filed at the Limbang District Police headquarters, only Karim's fishing gear and personal belongings were found at the scene. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre (PGO) said it received a distress call from the police at 3.13pm and immediately activated a SAR operation. 'The SAR team from the Limbang fire station arrived at the location around 4.30pm and began their search approximately 1km downstream from where the victim is believed to have been attacked,' Bomba said in a statement. 'During the operation, a crocodile was seen surfacing momentarily with what appeared to be a human body in its jaws.' The operation had to be called off at 6.17pm due to fading daylight and safety concerns. On Monday night, a 40-year-old man narrowly escaped a crocodile attack at Kampung Telahak in Limbang, when the reptile bit into a pail, narrowly missing him. The man, who had gone to the Limbang River to collect water for his family due to a five-day water supply interruption, said the incident occurred at around 10pm as he and his family were at the riverbank to bathe and wash dishes. The incident raised alarm among villagers over the increasing crocodile population in the area, located about 43km from Limbang town. — The Borneo Post
