The Kansas City Chiefs lost veteran safety Justin Reid to the New Orleans Saints in free agency earlier this offseason, so the team would definitely love somebody to step up and take his place.

In a recent article by PFF's Bradley Locker, he puts together a team full of guys who he thinks could break out in 2025. And one of the players he picks is Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks.
"Hicks' advanced PFF metrics are wildly impressive, such as his 91stpercentile run stop rate and 74th percentile forced incompletion rate," Locker wrote. "Steve Spagnuolo has earned a reputation for drafting and developing top defensive backs, from Trent McDuffie to Charvarius Ward to Jaylen Watson and more. Hicks seems to check all the boxes of the next great Chiefs late-round find."
The reigning AFC champions selected Hicks with the 133rd pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. If he can step up and play a role in 2025, it would be hard to dispute that the Chiefs got one of the steals of that draft.
Hicks only started in one game in his rookie season, but he was able to make his impact felt. He tallied 29 total tackles, 23 of them being solo, and three of them being for a loss. But perhaps most impressive was his ball-hawk skills, as he finished with five passes defended and three interceptions.

Kansas City was in the bottom half of the league this past season in passing yards allowed, so Hicks will be looking to step in and help them with that problem.

Calls Mount for Russell Westbrook to Join Former Team After Blockbuster News

Calls Mount for Russell Westbrook to Join Former Team After Blockbuster News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Russell Westbrook surprised many by declining his $3.47 million player option with the Denver Nuggets, officially entering unrestricted free agency on June 30. Last season with Denver, he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds over 75 games, even starting 36 times—his most since 2021-22. In his first year with the Nuggets, Westbrook helped guide the team to the Western Conference semifinals, where they ultimately fell in seven games to his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder—who went on to win the championship. Despite battling a fractured right hand late in the season, Westbrook played through the setback but was unable to impact the series as Denver would have hoped. With his free agency now underway, speculation has swirled around Westbrook's landing spot. However, recent developments in the Western Conference have refocused attention on his first team. ESPN's Shams Charania confirmed that Chris Paul will return to the Los Angeles Clippers days after it was reported that Damian Lillard opted to rejoin the Portland Trail Blazers. That news prompted fans on social media and discussion boards to push for a reunion between Westbrook and OKC. Many point to his strong history with the Thunder—where he spent 11 seasons, earned MVP honors, and made multiple deep playoff runs. 'WHY NOT?! Russ deserves one last shot at a ring with Thunder,' a fan wrote. 'Russ and OKC reunion would be nuts 😭,' another fan added. 'That would be amazing … then he could finally get the ring he deserves when okc repeats,' another fan said. 'Westbrook coming back to the Thunder to win a chip would be generational,' one fan posted. 'This would actually be so elite. plz make it happen Russ and thunder,' another fan remarked. Since leaving OKC, Westbrook has suited up for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers (his longest post-Thunder stint), Clippers, and most recently the Nuggets. Russell Westbrook Reacts to Nikola Jokic News Amid NBA Free Agency

Russell Westbrook Reacts to Nikola Jokic News Amid NBA Free Agency originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While Russell Westbrook is no longer the perennial MVP candidate he was in his prime, the 17-year NBA veteran remains a productive player at 36 years old. Coming off a season in which he averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists in 75 games for the Denver Nuggets, Westbrook declined his $3.4 million player option for 2025-26 to become a free agent. Free agency has moved slowly for Westbrook. Despite his productive 2024-25 campaign, the nine-time NBA All-Star has seen veteran guards like Chris Paul, D'Angelo Russell, Dennis Schroder, Marcus Smart, and even the injured Damian Lillard find new deals before him. While he complemented Nikola Jokic well last season, a return to Denver seems unlikely for Westbrook. The Nuggets have already acquired both Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bruce Brown this offseason, leaving little room in their second unit backcourt for another guard. Despite this, fans took notice of Westbrook's recent social media activity, causing some to believe the door may not be closed on a return to Denver for the 2017 league MVP. On Sunday, Jokic was seen celebrating some personal news. A horse-racing enthusiast, Jokic was brought to tears as one of his horses crossed the finish line this weekend. Reacting to this viral clip, Westbrook liked the post. This was noticed by fans on social media. While a liked post on Instagram certainly does not indicate where Westbrook will play his 18th NBA season, it does suggest he remains supportive of Jokic even if the two only end up being teammates for one year. The NBA's all-time triple-double leader, Westbrook owns career averages of 21.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists. 5 Jaguars among highest rated players at their positions in Madden 26

Five Jaguars players are among the highest rated at their respective positions in Madden 26. Five Jacksonville Jaguars players are among the highest rated at their respective position groups in Madden 26. With the Madden 26 release nearing, EA Sports has revealed the 10 highest-rated players at each position group. Making an appearance for the Jaguars was Josh Hines-Allen with an overall score of 90, which ranked ninth among defensive ends. At linebacker were Foye Oluokun and Devin Lloyd. Oluokun ranked seventh with a rating of 87, and Lloyd was 10th with a rating of 85. Then on special teams was punter Logan Cooke, who was second among his position group with an overall rating of 83. Long-snapper Ross Matiscik had a rating of 74, which ranked seventh. Hines-Allen's pass rush production last season still ranked among the best at his position group. His 63 quarterback pressures were the 10th-most, while he also ranked 17th in pass rush win rate, according to PFF. Just one-plus year removed from a 90-pressure, 17.5-sack season in 2023, Hines-Allen is chasing a big goal in 2025. "I think all pass rushers should strive for that goal like every team strives to win a Super Bowl," Hines-Allen said via ESPN. "So, I think my goal is to break the record and not really focus on it. Just know that if I handle what I need to handle, stay healthy, know what I'm doing, communicate, anticipate what's happening to me, anticipate pass and kind of be quicker on that, then everything's going to play off the way it's supposed to." Lloyd would finish the 2024 season making 106 of his 111 tackle attempts, and he was among PFF's highest-graded linebackers in the run game. In coverage, he allowed 11.6 yards per catch with one interception and one pass breakup. "We're excited about him," said Liam Coen earlier this offseason. "A guy that we see we can do some things with. We do feel excited about some of his versatility and experience." Oluokun has been very effective around the line of scrimmage, both in the run game and as blitzer. Both he and Lloyd should benefit from playing under Anthony Campanile, whose coaching background is rooted in the linebacker position and within his malleable and multiple defensive scheme. Cooke and Matiscik are both coming off Pro Bowl seasons in 2024, along with each being named a second-team All-Pro. Matiscik was a first-team All-Pro in 2023.
