And although Chelsea survived a penalty scare and had to clear a shot off the line, they never looked in danger of being knocked out.

Paris St Germain set up final against Chelsea by brushing aside Real Madrid

European champions Paris St Germain produced a blistering performance to power into the Club World Cup final with a 4-0 rout of Real Madrid. A one-sided semi-final in New York on Wednesday was effectively settled inside the opening 24 minutes as Fabian Ruiz struck twice either side of an Ousmane Dembele effort. Spanish giants Real had no answer to the rampant Champions League winners, who added a fourth goal at the MetLife Stadium late on through Goncalo Ramos. PSG – who will play Chelsea in Sunday's final – were every bit as hot as the temperature, which reached 32C during the game. Luis Enrique named a side featuring 10 of the players that started the Champions League final hammering of Inter Milan including, for the first time in the tournament, Dembele. They seemed every bit as determined to reprise that famous victory as they tore into Europe's most storied team, who were without Trent Alexander-Arnold through injury. Real had sensed the need to make a quick start and Aurelien Tchouameni had a shot deflected wide after flicks from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe sparked an early attack but PSG were quickly into their stride. It took just six minutes for them to take the lead but already by then Kvicha Kvaratskhelia had gone close and Thibaut Courtois had saved from Ruiz and Dembele. The opener came after Raul Asencio dithered in front of goal and Dembele seized possession. It seemed he may have been brought down by Courtois but it did not matter as the ball rolled to Ruiz and the Spain international tucked home. Dembele doubled the lead just three minutes later, this time after a miskick by Antonio Rudiger allowed him to race through on goal. He gave Courtois no chance with a low finish. Real found no response and PSG made it 3-0 after 24 minutes as Achraf Hakimi played in Ruiz and he wrong-footed Federico Valverde before slotting past Courtois. It could have been more before the break as Kvaratskhelia put an opportunity wide and Courtois clawed away another effort from Dembele. Desire Doue put the ball in the net after the restart but was flagged offside. Real finally began to apply some pressure as the second half wore on with PSG easing off the gas. Yet they could find no way through a well-organised defence and Mbappe, making his first start of the competition against his former side, fired one effort into the crowd. Substitute Ramos wrapped up the scoring with three minutes remaining, turning to fire home from a Bradley Barcola lay-off after Real had failed to combat a quick counter-attack.

PSG dismantle Real Madrid to book Chelsea date in Club World Cup final

PSG 4-0 REAL MADRID: Chelsea will have been watching from behind the sofa as the European champions were at their brilliant best to demolish Los Blancos This was one of the most one-sided Club World Cup games since Bayern Munich put 10 past Auckland City. Paris Saint-Germain dismantled Real Madrid in the MetLife Stadium with an awesome first-half attacking display in the heavyweight semi-final. It was no wonder Trent Alexander-Arnold was missing with a hamstring injury and Chelsea were probably watching from behind the sofa. PSG now face Chelsea in Sunday's final with the winners getting a £97m jackpot in prize money and it would be a huge upset if Luis Enrique's men do not win. ‌ Fabian Ruiz scored twice but it was also about PSG's movement and energy as they put the job facing Real Madrid's new boss Xabi Alonso into stark perspective. ‌ The French giants are not just the best team in Europe after winning the Champions League, they are also by far and away the best team in the world. They produced another scintillating display of slick passing, pressing and high intensity football even in the scorching heat in front of 77,542 fans in New York. This was a pure joy to watch and the warning signs were there early on as Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois made an incredible save from Ousmane Dembele. ‌ PSG did not have to wait much longer. Raul Asencio's error let in Dembele who was upended by Courtois but Ruiz slotted in the loose ball to make it 1-0 after six minutes. Three minutes later, Antonio Rudiger slipped and Dembele raced clear before slotting home his 35th goal of the season. It was 3-0 inside 24 minutes as Achraf Hakimi turned on the turbo jets, played in Ruiz who had time to pick his spot and score. PSG got a fourth when substitute Goncalo Ramos scored from close range and then did a Diogo Jota style celebration to mark his late Portugal teammate.

PSG 4 Real Madrid 0: Chelsea set for mouthwatering Club World Cup final against red-hot European champion

ANTONIO RUDIGER blew the chance of a Chelsea reunion as Real Madrid were steamrollered out of the Club World Cup. The former Blues defender's embarrassing howler let in PSG hitman Ousmane Dembele to rifle home a goal after nine minutes. 8 And it was already one nil as the Spanish giants were torn to shreds in a first half blitz. Fabian Ruiz had scored three minutes earlier from another cock up at the back as the reigning European champions went for the jugular with an early onslaught that paid off. The Spanish midfielder made it 3-0 by half time with another clinical finish to fire PSG into Sunday's final against Chelsea. Rudiger, 32, was at Chelsea for five years and was part of their triumphant 2021 Champions League squad. But the German centre half and his fellow defenders were humiliated in the first 45 minutes with a series of mistakes that cost them dearly. Defeat means Madrid end the season without a trophy of any kind. They were also humbled 3-0 by Arsenal in the Champions League last season. New boss and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has much rebuilding work to do even though he has just signed full back Trent Alexander-Arnold to strengthen his squad. Former Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold was ruled out of this game with injury. 8 8 8 8 Victory is the 48th for runaway European kings PSG which is a record for them in one single season. And they could not have wished for a better start against their illustrious Spanish opposition when the first of several blunders gave them the early lead. A mistake by Raul Ascencio trying to tackle Dembele allowed Fabian to bury a shot from less than ten yards out. Rudiger then let the ball slip under his foot shortly after and Dembele raced clear to blast home number two past ex-Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois. And Fabian made sure there was no way back for 15-times European champions Madrid when he ruthlessly finished off a square ball from ex-Galactico Hakimi. Desire Doue actually made it 4-0 early in the second half but the goal was ruled out with Dembele offside. Chelsea face their toughest task yet taking on PSG in Sunday's all-European final. After losing their first game at the Club World Cup, Luis Enrique's side have won every match and prior to kick off against Madrid had not conceded a goal. Madrid brought on veteran Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, 39, for his farewell game before moving to AC Milan after 13 years in the Spanish capital. But things only got worse for Modric & Co Goncalo Ramos came off the bench to make it 4-0. 8 8 8
