Terrifying teddy bear feared to be wrapped in human flesh left at petrol station
The discovery of a grisly teddy bear made of 'human skin' led to the arrest of a man in San Bernardino County, California yesterday. The chillingly-realistic serial killer -themed toy was left outside a petrol station on Bear Valley Road, Victorville, leading to multiple reports to the local police from concerned passers-by,
Officers arrived and taped off the apparent ' crime scene ' before realising that the disturbing discovery was, in fact, made of latex.
23-year-old Corona Villanueva, who is believed to have bought the item from horror movie prop-makers Dark Seed Creations was arrested, and will be booked on charges of 'causing the report of an emergency while knowing it to be false' and 'intentionally and wrongfully planting evidence to falsely present as real.'
A police spokesperson told reporters: 'Incidents such as this take up valuable emergency resources and put the public at risk, possibly delaying response time to legitimate calls for service. We would like to thank those that reported information that was helpful during the investigation of this case.'
Artist Robert Kelly, who sells the 'Human skin teddy bears' though Etsy, delightedly took to Facebook to tell followers about the incident: 'I cant make this s*** up!,' he wrote. 'One of my skin teddy bears has apparently been involved in a prank that brought police attention! This is f*****g wild!'
Dozens of fans replied to congratulate him, saying that the stunt would probably earn him plenty of attention – and potentially a lot more sales for the $165.00 (about £122) item. At present, though, the bears are listed as 'sold out' on Robert's Etsy page.
Robert sells a number of other grim-looking items there, including a 'skin vest,' several Halloween masks, and a macabre lampshade tribute to notorious serial killer Ed Gein.
Robert told People magazine that he had sold one of the bears to a customer in San Bernardino area just last week: "Our work is pretty easily recognisable, and people were sending the articles (about the incident) left and right.
'I looked, and sure enough it was the bear I sent out last week," Mr Kelly told People magazine.
"Every artist wants credit [for] their work, so I said 'I made that', and haven't been able to catch up with messages since."
He stressed that he had no idea that the buyer would use the item to cause a disturbance: 'I did not have any knowledge of the [buyer's] intentions nor was I involved in a prank on the other side of the nation from me," he wrote on Facebook.
Nevertheless, he added in an interview with ABC News, the artist was relishing his new-found notoriety: "I guess I'd probably be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying it a little bit.
'You know, I'm an independent artist, so you know, I know what starving artist life feels like. So, a little attention is sometimes good regardless of not being able to condone whatever."

Woman 'filmed herself having sex with monks and blackmailed them for £9,000,000'
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A Buddhist sex scandal has erupted in Thailand after a woman filmed herself sleeping with monks before blackmailing them for cash. Wilawan Emsawat, 35, was arrested for allegedly seducing and then extorting senior Buddhist clergy of up to £9 million. At least nine monks have been disrobed for breaking their vows of celibacy after sex videos between Wilawan and the religious men were uncovered. The scandal unfolded after the head of a famous Buddhist temple in Bangkok suddenly renounced his monkhood and disappeared. It soon transpired that the religious leader, Phra Thep Wachirapamok, 53, had allegedly been sleeping with Wilawan. She had told the monk she was pregnant and threatened to reveal their relationship if he did not pay her 7.2m baht (£165,000) in child support. When he refused to cough up, she allegedly exposed their liaison to fellow monks, and he fled. Investigators discovered five phones containing tens of thousands of videos and photos of her having sex with Phra Thep Wachirapamok and other monks. Some were even wearing their religious robes while in the act, the police's Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) said. Officers also found chats which pointed to sexual acts with religious men, which they said could be used for blackmail. The alleged seductress was arrested in Bangkok on Tuesday on suspicion of crimes including extortion, money laundering and receiving stolen goods. It was revealed that about 385 million baht (£9 million) had been deposited into her bank account in the last three years, police added. 'We checked her financial trail and found that it involves many temples,' the Thai police's Jaroonkiat Pankaew said on Tuesday. He added: 'This woman is dangerous and we needed to arrest her as soon as possible' Investigators believe the scandal could be about far more than sex and may involve corruption on a large scale. At least nine abbots, who are heads of monasteries, and senior monks had been implicated in the scandal and thrown out of the monkhood. A number have already confessed to long-standing affairs with her, one even admitting that Wilawan gave him a car during their fling. The country's Central Investigation Bureau have even set up a Facebook page for people to report on monks breaking the rules. Thai monks mostly belong to the Theravada sect, which requires them to be celibate and refrain from touching a woman. Phra Thep Wachirapamok has not yet been tracked down after his disappearance. Although Wilawan has not commented since her arrest, she spoke to local media before Tuesday and acknowledged one relationship and said she had given him money. More Trending The scandal has prompted huge acrimony in the predominantly Buddhist country. Thailand's acting PM Phumtham Wechayachai has ordered for laws to be amended to improve the transparency of temple finances. Respected columnist Ekachai wrote: 'Monks must ask themselves: Why did they enter monkhood? For spiritual training, or to climb the social ladder and gain wealth and power through the saffron robe? 'This is structural rot rooted in a clergy strong on authoritarian control but weak on monastic discipline. It's the bitter fruit of a system that has drifted far from the Buddha's path.' First picture of British tourists who died after jumping into pool in Portugal
Two friends from the UK who died while on holiday in Portugal have been named and pictured for the first time. Tributes have been paid to Mo, 27, and King, 29, who were discovered at the bottom of a swimming pool at the Duas Palmeiras hotel in Albufeira in the early hours of Tuesday. Friends described them as 'gentle, kindhearted souls who brought light into every room they entered.' Angelo Antonio, Marco Mendonca and Sanoueli Bamba, who have set up a fundraiser to help bring their bodies back to the UK, said: '[They were] the kind of people who would drop everything to help you, no questions asked. 'They were warm, loyal, funny and full of dreams. The sort of men you never hear a bad word about because there simply were none. 'They were deeply devoted to their families, their friends and their faith. And now, all of that has been taken so suddenly and so unfairly.' More Trending Mo and King's families are not only facing 'every parent's worst nightmare, but also the overwhelming cost of bringing their sons home. The fundraiser said that the total cost to return them to the UK is at least £10,000. So far, more than £14,000 have been donated to help their parents. Got a story?
