Divorcee Peter Phillips and fiancée Harriet Sperling won't be held back by royal protocol like King Charles and Queen Camilla were and will be able to have 'full blown wedding' with 'Prince Harry likely there', royal experts claim
The couple, who have been dating for a little over a year, officially announced their engagement on Friday - and it's likely royal fans will be in for a treat when their wedding rolls around.
Princess Anne 's son and NHS nurse Harriet have both been married before - Peter to Autumn Kelly, and Harriet to a fitness instructor - leading some to question whether their nuptials may look slightly different to what the nation is accustomed to when it comes to royalty.
However, former royal butler, Grant Harrold, believes that the couple won't be held back by royal protocol like King Charles and Queen Camilla once were because it is 'very different times' now.
Grant told Femail: 'Historically, yes, royal weddings, if you're divorced and you got married again, it was always a much more low key affair.'
He said: 'I still think [Peter's] will be an all-white wedding. I think he'll still want to do things even though he's the divorcee. I still think it will be a full blown white wedding affair. I think it's very different times, so they can either go for a low key or a high profile. It'll be entirely up to them at the time.'
It is also thought that Princess Anne's ex-husband and Peter's father, Captain Mark Phillips, will be in attendance. Mark - who got divorced from the Princess Royal in 1992 - was seen at Peter's first wedding in 2008 and even posed for a family portrait alongside his former wife.
So, what might Harriet and Peter's wedding look like? Femail takes a look below...
'Charles and Camilla-style' divorcee wedding?
As both Peter and Harriet have been married before, their upcoming nuptials may look slightly different to most royal weddings.
Princess Anne's son was previously married to Autumn Kelly for 12 years, with whom he shares two daughters, Savannah, 14, and Isla, 13. Harriet, 45, meanwhile has a daughter Georgina, 13, from her first marriage to a fitness instructor.
After his split from Autumn Kelly in 2020, Peter then had a three-year relationship with Scottish divorcee Ms Wallace.
The Anglican church has allowed divorcees to marry again in a church since 2002.
Similarly, marrying as a divorced person is still a relatively new concept for the royals - only happening in the last 20 years - meaning there's no clear and established path.
In fact, Queen Elizabeth's uncle Edward famously abdicated the throne in 1936 in order to marry Wallis Simpson, a divorced American woman. When Princess Margaret hoped to marry divorced Peter Townsend, it was forbidden by the Church of England.
The couple is yet to confirm any details of the wedding - but they could opt for a style similar to King Charles and Queen Camilla when they married in 2005.
King Charles and Queen Camilla are pictured at their wedding in 2005, a couple of years before Peter got married
The King and Queen - who first dated back in the 1970s - tied the knot in Windsor on 9 April that year.
The couple's big day was noticeably less lavish than King Charles' wedding to Princess Diana in July 1981 - which was held at St Paul's Cathedral and watched by over 750m people from around the world.
Instead, Charles and Camilla - who had both been divorced - opted for a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall which was followed by a religious blessing.
Unlike Charles' first wedding, the couple's civil ceremony was kept private, and Buckingham Palace announced that there would be no music or readings featured in the order of service.
But royal expert Phil Dampier told Femail that it is likely Harriet and Peter won't be held back by royal protocols like Camilla and Charles were.
He said: 'I think Peter Phillips' wedding will be fairly low key but not because he is divorced. After all the first marriages of the King, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew all ended in divorce as well, so the stigma that there was in the 50s is no longer there.
'Peter Phillips is not a working royal so he can pretty much do what he wants. He has already presumably sold the fact he is engaged to HELLO! magazine and I wouldn't be surprised if he does the same with the wedding.
'I'm sure senior royals will be invited and will attend but we probably won't see any big parade or carriage procession.
'He is well down the pecking order in the line of succession and so it will be very much done as he and his fiancée want.
'In that sense, it won't be very different from his first wedding. Ironically, his first wife switched from being a Catholic to the Church of England so that he wouldn't lose his place in the line of succession, but the rules have now been changed and he is so far down to be irrelevant now.'
When Prince Harry married Meghan Markle at St George's Chapel in Windsor in 2018, the wedding was as lavish as ever - despite the Suits actress having been married previously to Trevor Engelson from 2011 to 2013.
More than 120,000 people descended on Windsor that day, with hundreds of VIP guests.
As the son of Princess Anne and being himself the King's nephew Peter Phillips's wedding will likely be one to remember - but the extent of the celebrations will be down to the discretion of the couple themselves.
Will Harry and Meghan be invited?
While a guest list and a date have not officially been set for the wedding, many royal fans may wonder whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will get an invite to Harriet and Peter's royal nuptials.
Former royal butler, Grant Harrold, also believes that Harry will be in attendance.
He said: 'One thing I do know is obviously the King and Queen and his cousin Prince William, and possibly Prince Harry, who's also very close to him, would be there.'
Prince Harry attended Peter Phillips' first wedding in 2008 to Autumn Kelly and is seen pictured smiling in pictures alongside his grandparents, the late Queen and Prince Philip.
The Duke of Sussex, along with his brother William, were raised in Gloucestershire, just a few miles from where Peter Phillips and his sister, Zara Tindall, grew up and the foursome appeared to share a close bond.
The royal cousins were often spotted chatting and joking at royal events, with William previously revealing how it was 'hard to keep a straight face' when sitting opposite his cousins in church.
Both Peter and Zara have been described as 'peacemakers' between William and Harry in the past, with the Prince of Wales asking his cousin to stand between the pair during Prince Philip 's funeral procession.
However, sources told The Mail on Sunday that Harry has experienced 'a great deal of frostiness' from many of his relatives when he arrived in Britain for the event in 2021.
It was also claimed that Peter's mother Princess Anne, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie failed to acknowledge Harry before or during the service. However, Peter or Zara was not mentioned.
Harry also has a close relationship with Mike, who is not a working royal but lives on Princess Anne's Gatecombe estate.
The Duke of Sussex is even said to have introduced Zara to her now husband Mike Tindall. The former England Rugby pro was said to be 'drowning his sorrows' at a bar in Sydney after being cut from the world cup squad when his pal Harry introduced the pair.

Such is the closeness between the cousins that they are all part of a WhatsApp group where they exchange messages on upcoming events and family news.
'Me, my brother and then a few of Zara's side like her brother Pete [Phillips] and the cousins are on WhatsApp groups,' Mike once revealed. 'I wouldn't say we're cutting edge, but it's just easier for some reason on WhatsApp.'
He added on a separate occasion: 'It's just what you do to try and set up get-togethers and we are going to something that is the same.
'If you are going to go, [we discuss things like] 'Are you going to take the kids?' Quite a lot of people have family WhatsApp groups.'
What was Peter's last wedding like?
On May 17, 2008, Peter tied the knot with Autumn in a lavish affair at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle – the same venue where Meghan and Harry said, 'I do'.
The former couple got engaged in July of 2007 and then married five years after meeting at the Montreal Grand Prix.
There were 300 guests at the wedding including 70 of the Canadian-born bride's family as well as a number of British royals.
Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Princess Beatrice, and now-Queen Camilla were all there as well as Princess Anne and Princess Eugenie who read Shakespeare's sonnet 116 at the ceremony.
The couple reportedly signed a £500,000 deal with Hello! Magazine to give them exclusive rights to al the photos of the event
Prince Harry was in attendance with then-girlfriend Chelsy Davy and while Prince William was notably absent as he was in Kenya for a friend's wedding, but Kate was there to represent him.
Peter's sister Zara Philips was bridesmaid in a sage-green Vera Wang gown while his half sister Stephanie, then-11, was one of the flower girls.
The couple reportedly signed a £500,000 deal with Hello! Magazine to give them exclusive rights to all the photos of the event.
The deal earned them a huge spread in the publication with interviews from the bride, select guests and Autumn's wedding dress designer.
Autumn wore a lace and bead embellished strapless gown with a cascading train and short-sleeved shawl by British designer Sassi Holford.
Sassi told Hello! At the time: 'Doing such a gown does kind of encompass all the emotions the bride feels on her day – I was excited, then terribly nervous, then full of joy'.

Princess Anne lent the bride a sparkling tiara for her special day and Autumn also donned a pearl and diamond necklace gifted to her by Peter the evening before.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests flocked to the chapel's stairs to pose for photos and wave to fans.
From there, Peter and Autumn boarded an open, horse-pulled carriage to their reception at Frogmore House a 17th century country estate offered to them for use by the Queen and Prince Phillip.
At Frogmore House, the family gathered for a portrait before heading to the party where guests danced the night away.
Peter and Autumn cut their three-tiered wedding cake with a sword belonging to Captain Mark Phillips and an usher's girlfriend was the one who caught the bouquet.
Tributes to The Queen and Prince Phillip
The union between Peter and Harriet will be the first major British royal wedding since Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip passed away.
The royal couple would usually have played a major role in any ceremony - and in the years before their deaths attended the weddings of their grandchildren, including Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are pictured at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018
In 2008, when he married Autumn Kelly, Peter was the first of the Queen's grandchildren to tie the knot - making it a very special occasion.
The photographs at the time, which were signed with HELLO! Magazine, included remarkably candid shots of the royals including images of the family laughing and one photo of Prince Harry giving his grandmother - Elizabeth II - a peck on the cheek.
However, senior members of the family - including the late Queen - were allegedly less than impressed and felt blindsided by the publication of the pictures.
Buckingham Palace released a statement shortly afterwards claiming that the deal was a 'serious error of judgement'.
Peter was long said to have been the late Queen's 'favourite grandson' - so it's likely a tribute to his grandmother could be on the cards, especially at an event where she would have no doubt played a major role.

The musician, 52, was caught on camera by a sneaky fan as he headed inside, but catching the lens the star made it known he had been seen as he mimed a drug reference. Pointing inside the cubicle he then alluded to taking cocaine before he headed inside. Reposting the video the fan wrote: 'Liam Gallagher knew he was being watched heading into the backstage toilets and of course he does this'. At the height of the band's Britpop career Liam was known for his party lifestyle fuelled by of drinking and drug taking. However the star has left his wild antics behind and now priorities his well being with his 'health trip' seeing him cutting back on booze and stop drug taking. He previously told The Sun: 'You've got to undo all the bad work you've done through f***ing getting off your head and all that. 'It's time to undo it all now and get back to reality. All that stuff that you thought was cool in the early days . . . it's time to get healthy.' 'As you get older, life is precious, do you know what I mean? I'm a pretty happy-go-lucky guy. I love waking up early in the morning.' Meanwhile it was also revealed Liam has been drinking apple cider vinegar on the Oasis tour after vowing to ditch the booze. Before the reunion gigs kicked off, Liam vowed to cut alcohol out his diet to keep his voice in check for the stage. After years of drinking heavily on tour in the nineties, Liam prefers a glass of the soft drink. Liam has previously spoke about his love for apple cider vinegar and honey and how it helps his voice. He said: 'I drink a lot of funky drinks. I have this apple cider vinegar, the one that everyone bangs on about. 'So I have vinegar, some honey and then I have some turmeric, some cayenne pepper, a squirt of lemon, hot water, stir it round and drink it. 'It's really good for when you get a hoarse voice. I've got a thyroid problem – Hashimoto's disease – so I can get a really hoarse voice.' In 2023 Liam revealed that he needed the joints replacing in his hip due to arthritis as a result of a longstanding thyroid problem. He then underwent a major hip operation. Before that in 2017 he was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, an autoimmune condition of the thyroid gland. In addition he also suffers with the skin condition psoriasis. The lady was going, 'Oh, you might need a hip operation, a replacement.'' He said at the time he didn't want the operation because of the 'stigma'. 'I think I'd rather just be in pain. Which is ridiculous, obviously. I know that. Just get them fixed. But it's the stigma, saying you've had your hips replaced. What's next?' Taking to social media he penned: 'Morning Rastas so I had my Hip operation last wk all went well and RESPEK to all the doctors n nurses who looked after me Big shout out to the A team for getting us home safe n sound' He told MoJo magazine: 'When the weather's cold, my hips are like snap, crackle and pop. I need warmth. 'I can't sleep at night for the pain. Tossing and turning. So I'm on herbal sleeping tablets and they've saved my life. One of them, seven hours out, no pain, nothing. 'My new thing is Deep Heat. Caked myself in it on the knees and hips, the calves, then into the steam room for as long as I can handle it.' Liam, a keen jogger, was told by doctors to run less to help manage the condition. In the interview he also spoke about his psoriasis, saying he once met a fan who thought he had cocaine in his hair - but it was actually bits of skin from his itchy scalp. He said: 'I've got psoriasis, so I had obviously been scratching it during the day and there were little white bits and s**t. They were taking it out of my hair and putting it on their gums and putting it up their f***ing nose!' Taking to Twitter last February he said of having his hip operation: 'Morning Rastas so I had my Hip operation last wk [week] all went well and RESPEK [respect] to all the doctors n nurses who looked after me Big shout out to the A team for getting us home safe n sound. 'You know who you are and Florence guru I love and adore you Riverdance here I come LG x'.

The ‘curl & scrunch' trick Princess Andre swears by for gorgeous long waves with zero heat damage
SHE may be a nepo baby who grew up in the spotlight, but Princess Andre is now paving her own way. Just last week, she was crowned Tatler's second best-dressed star in Britain. 4 4 And it's not just fashion where she's making waves - the daughter of Peter Andre and Katie Price is also a beauty icon, with fans clamouring for her hair secrets. Princess has become known for her stunning, long, naturally curly hair, and the secret to her gorgeous locks is a simple, heat-free trick she recently shared on TikTok. For anyone wanting to achieve beautiful, bouncy waves without using a curling iron, her "curl & scrunch" method is a game-changer. The 18-year-old posted a step-by-step tutorial for her 882.9k followers, and the video has since gone viral with 1.2 million views and 53.6k likes. The key to her routine isn't heat, but the right combination of products and a technique that enhances her natural curls. How to Get the Look The process starts with a good brush to ensure there are "absolutely no knots." Princess then sections her hair, clipping the top half out of the way to focus on the bottom. She makes sure each section is "soaked" with water before adding a "good amount" of curl cream. "I feel like this is a really important step," she explains, "but always brush away from your face. I just feel like this defines the curls so much more." Trailer for the upcoming series of The Princess Diaries starring Princess Andre The magic truly happens with her signature two-step method: finger curling and scrunching. She precisely finger curls her hair to make the curls "so defined," then scrunches her hair, listening for that "squishy noise" that tells her the product is working. After repeating this on all sections, she scrunches her hair with a towel and then flips her head forward to add mousse or gel for extra hold. Although she says she doesn't diffuse her hair until it's "fully dry," she does use a diffuser for a little bit before letting the rest air-dry. 4 The result is her signature head of gorgeous, bouncy waves—all done with minimal heat. Fans flocked to the comments to praise her look, with one writing: "You've always had beautiful hair. "Love this pretty girl." Another added: "Beautiful young woman. While a third simply commented: "Beautiful." Princess Andre has renewed her major beauty deal with Studio London for a second year. Last year, she was announced as the face of the brand's affordable cosmetics line and will continue to work with them for another 12 months. An insider revealed: 'Princess has been a huge hit with Superdrug and they couldn't wait to snap her up again. 'She has such wide appeal and has already shown just how much she can do for the brand.' Who is Princess Andre and what's her job? Princess Andre born June 29, 2007, is the daughter of Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre and former glamour model Katie Price. The pair also welcomed a son while they were together, Junior, born on June 13, 2005. Katie and Peter then split in early 2009, with their divorce being finalised in October of the same year. Princess also has six half siblings, four from Katie and two from Peter. As of June 2024, Princess has an impressive 750,000 followers on her Instagram account, @officialprincess_andre. Ahead of her 16th birthday, in June 2023, Princess opened up about what she wants to do with her future during a Q&A with fans and followers. The teen said she is seeking out "financial freedom" through her beauty and fashion brand deals, as well as her own jewellery brand named 'Sparkle' by Princess Andre.

Musician Terry Reid dies aged 75: Star nicknamed 'Superlungs' who once turned down offer to join Led Zeppelin passes away after cancer battle
Musician Terry Reid has died at the age of 75. The singer-songwriter who was nicknamed 'Superlungs' famously turned down an offer to join the bands Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. He passed away following a battle with cancer, his UK representative confirmed on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife Annette. His death comes after he was forced to postpone a tour last month due to his cancer treatment. The tour was set to begin in Wolverhampton on September 11. A statement on his social media in July read: 'Due to medical issues arising from recent treatment for cancer Terry has had to postpone his autumn 2025 UK, Irish and Norway. 'Terry is especially upset about this as his 2024 tour was so successful and he had been looking forward to playing some new towns and venues plus old faves, as well as his first ever dates in Norway.' And just seven days ago on his Instagram account he shared an image of funding for his 'brave health battle'. The caption said: 'I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea how much this means to me, all of the love and support are helping me to heal.' The star, from Cambridgeshire, was initially part of local group the Redbeats as a teenager. He then supported Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers and was then asked to join the latter band. At 16 he was supporting the Rolling Stones on tour where he first noticed by Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. He told The Guardian last year of turning down a chance to be in the band: 'I was intent on doing my own thing!' He also revealed in 2023: 'I was very friendly with Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. Keith asked me to support the Stones in the States, but then shortly afterwards, Jimmy wanted me to join his new band. I was torn. 'In the end, I put the ball in Jimmy's court. I said: 'You'd better speak to Keith and tell him I'm not going.' But Jimmy bottled it. 'He said: 'I'm not having him shoot me in the f***ing leg. Even then, Keith had a reputation. So I ended up going to America with the Stones. I even played with them at Altamont.' A statement on his social media in July read: 'Due to medical issues arising from recent treatment for cancer Terry has had to postpone his autumn 2025 UK, Irish and Norway' Just seven days ago on his Instagram account he shared an image of funding for his 'brave health battle' Terry also turned down Ritchie Blackmore's offer to be Deep Purple's lead singer, saying: 'It was very flattering. Ritchie was one hell of a guitar player.' He then signed a management and recording deal with Mickie Most, who oversaw his first two studio albums. After his death this week tributes flooded in including from fellow musician Joe Bonamassa. Bonamassa said: 'Goodbye my friend. It was an honour to get to know you as friend and a musical mentor. 'I will miss our hangs and stories in Palm Springs. One of the greatest to ever do it and a beautiful person and soul. 'Rest in peace Terry Reid. My deepest condolences to his family on this terrible day.' Fans were also devastated at his death as one penned on social media: 'I wish there was somewhere I could lay flowers for you Terry. 'Tonight I will light a candle and let your voice flow through the house. You will rest in peace as you have brought us so much.' Another said: 'R.I.P you shining star.'
