How Kate helped bring Coronation pictures to life – by royal snapper: RICHARD EDEN'S DIARY

She wasn't behind the camera, but the Princess of Wales was instrumental in shooting the official portraits from King Charles 's Coronation. Photographer Hugo Burnand, who has long been trusted to capture royal milestones, has revealed that Catherine's creative input during her own wedding to Prince William in 2011 influenced his approach to capturing the 2023 Coronation. Reflecting on his decision to use Buckingham Palace 's architecture as a feature of the Coronation images – rather than hiding it behind heavy curtains – Hugo says: 'It was, interestingly, Princess of Wales, Catherine Middleton, who brought that idea to the table with me – when we were photographing her wedding to Prince William. 'Every single royal wedding photograph to date had been photographed on the steps where the thrones are, with a heavy, dark, velvet curtain behind them. It's so unimaginative, and it's so dull. We agreed to bring them into the middle of the room and then light them – and light the room – as if it was a beautiful spring morning.' Hugo says he applied that exact same natural-feeling aesthetic to the Coronation portraits. 'Because technology is now brilliant on lighting and exposures and cameras, I was able to take photographs during the Coronation where I was able to actually make the throne room almost look like it was a backdrop,' he adds on his podcast, Double Exposure. '[The light] was 100 per cent artificial – but it looks like a spring morning.' A patron of the Royal Photographic Society, Catherine's own portraits of her children have been widely praised, and her 2020 Hold Still pandemic photography project with the National Portrait Gallery was a national hit. Last year, the princess apologised 'for any confusion' after she edited a Mothering Sunday photograph of her and her children. Her statement came after five photographic agencies retracted it over editing concerns. 'Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,' she later explained. Bea's Edo makes his jetaway Prince Harry and Meghan tend to use pals' private jets to fly to Katy Perry concerts in Las Vegas or hols in the Caribbean. If the eco campaigners can ever afford their own plane, they can ask Harry's cousin to design the interior. For Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who has two daughters with Princess Beatrice, has started fitting out private jets. 'It's escapism,' the interior designer, 41, explains of their appeal. 'When you're in the air there are no people constantly asking you questions or children hanging off you.' The smart set's talking about... High-level upheavals that leave English Heritage adrift More turmoil at English Heritage, which only last month lost its chief executive Nick Merriman, who resigned to the relief of some staff angered by cost-cutting under his watch. Now, it has emerged that the charity's chairman, Gerard Lemos, is also leaving, to the fury of staff who describe it as a rudderless ship. An email sent to staff, and leaked to me, states that Labour peer Lord Lemos has been appointed as a government whip and is obliged to step down from all his chairmanship roles. 'As chair, Gerard moved English Heritage into a position of strength,' the email claims, listing his achievements. One insider tells me: 'By strength, they mean perilous finances, rock-bottom staff morale and a loss of expertise.' The charity cares for sites across England, including Stonehenge and parts of Hadrian's Wall. 'Of course, we appreciate that the news of Gerard's departure so soon after Nick Merriman's will be unsettling for some,' the email admits. 'But English Heritage's priorities for this year remain unchanged.' Violet's confetti ban Is confetti going out of fashion in high society? I ask only because it was banned at Lady Violet Manners' recent wedding. The Duke of Rutland's 31-year-old daughter exchanged vows with William Garnock, 34, a Scottish viscount, in Leicestershire near her family's ancestral home, Belvoir Castle. 'We didn't do the traditional post-ceremony confetti tunnel,' she says. 'William was firm on this: 'I'm not walking out of a church twice just to be pelted with petals.' And, honestly, I couldn't agree more. We exited once, as husband and wife. William didn't want his friends waiting in the sunshine without a drink to then throw flowers in his face.' 'One of the more frustrating parts of what I do is being passed over for things – like literary awards – because I'm 'that bloke off the telly',' he fumes. 'I've literally had a judge say to my face that they assumed I couldn't write my own books. That I couldn't possibly know anything about nature or conservation because I've got a TV series.' Cheeky Kirby steals dead ringer Comer's plaudits... Vanessa Kirby, who played Princess Margaret in The Crown, has revealed that she is often mistaken for fellow blonde actress Jodie Comer – and once pretended to be her when a fan muddled them up. 'They said, 'You were so good in your one-woman show,' and I went, 'Oh, my God, thank you so much'.' Too much sun? Model is cool as a cucumber Once the smouldering face of Valentino and Versace, Paul Sculfor has traded couture for cucumbers. After a little too much sun on holiday, the model, 54, posted a photograph of himself swaddled in cucumber ribbons – much like a health-conscious snack. 'When you get too much sun... all you need is cucumber,' he jokes online, tagging his Italian-born wife, the nutritionist Dr Federica Amati, who presumably endorsed the hydrating hack. Sculfor, who once courted Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz, now swears by garden-fresh TLC. Who needs La Mer when you've got a mandoline slicer and a Mediterranean wife?

A Viral TikTok Analyzes Royal Family Member Facial Expressions During Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Wedding, and the Reactions Were Shocking

The video also showcases Queen Elizabeth's very different reaction during Prince William's wedding to Kate Middleton. It's safe to say that most of the world was watching when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018. Much attention was paid to the bride and groom, Meghan's stunning Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy wedding dress, and the A-list guests in attendance. One thing the general public should have been watching more closely? The facial expressions of other members of the royal family. In a viral TikTok video posted on a fan account called houseofwindsorr, a variety of different wedding-day clips were stitched together to reveal how the royal family felt about Harry and Meghan's nuptials. Queen Elizabeth's reactions are most prominently featured, but the clips also showcase Meghan and Harry themselves, Prince Philip, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Zara Tindall, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Princess Beatrice. Related: The Shocking Reason Why Queen Elizabeth Had a Limited Role in Planning Prince Harry's Wedding Overall, the queen's reactions weren't overwhelmingly positive or negative—she's certainly not smiling, but she's not frowning, either. That being said, it's impossible to tell when these clips were captured. The general sentiment of the video makes it seem like these were Queen Elizabeth's reactions to Meghan and Harry at the altar, but it's quite possible that these snippets were from the beginning or end of the wedding, when the bride and groom weren't even present or seen together. The rest of the edit is similarly unflattering. In the clip of Prince Philip, he appears to let out a long sigh. King Charles seems almost to shake his head and Queen Camilla's smile falls from her face. Zara Tindall, Harry's cousin, looks blank-faced as she repeatedly blinks, and Prince William and Kate Middleton look to be holding back smiles or laughs. As with Queen Elizabeth's clips, this edit leaves us with more questions than answers—the videos could indicate that members of the royal family were already displeased by the union, or it could just be an unflattering video that was edited to continue the narrative that Harry and Meghan are now outsiders to the House of Windsor. What's most notable is how the video compares the reactions of Queen Elizabeth at Meghan and Harry's wedding to her facial expression at Will and Kate's nuptials in 2013. At the end of the video, Will and Kate stop before the monarch, and she appears to nod and smile in approval. So, are these shocking reactions really indicative of how other royal family members felt, or is this just another viral video created with a skewed perspective? Whatever the truth may be, the video has now accumulated over 1.5 million likes, been saved 54,000 times, and received 2,611 comments. Princess Beatrice Goes Makeup-Free in New Wedding Anniversary Pic Posted by Husband Edo

As far as royal weddings go, Princess Beatrice's wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi might be one of my favorites. It was the start of a global pandemic and 'minimonies' and 'micro-weddings' were trending. Out of nowhere came stunning pics of Beatrice and Edo two months after their May 2020 nuptials had to unfortunately be postponed. They're surrounded by members of the royal family—Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip included—in a secret garden of sorts, but also at a Windsor-based ceremony that was well within the government-imposed guidelines for crowd size at the time. Most striking was the touching nod to the bride's grandmother: Bea wore a re-purposed Norman Hartnell gown of Queen Elizabeth's. It was, well, out of a fairy tale. Flash forward five years and Beatrice and Edo now have two children, Sienna, 3, and Athena, who was born in January this year. (Bea is also stepmom to Edo's son from his first marriage, Christopher Woolf, now 9.) In honor of their anniversary today, Edo took to Instagram to post a pic of himself with Beatrice—and it was surprisingly low-key. The pair are pictured on a Scottish beach, with a crystal clear ocean glimmering behind them. Edo is barefoot while Beatrice is in ripped jeans. But most notably, Bea is also makeup-free. (She looks amazing, BTW.) Edo's caption? 'Happy 5th anniversary to my incredible partner, the most beautiful and amazing wife. I cherish every moment we've spent together and am deeply grateful for our journey. Here's to countless more years filled with laughter and tons of love!' He signed off with a heart emoji, but also a nod to a beloved location for the pair: Scotland. (Like her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth also cherished this spot.) Time flies when you're having fun? More than anything, it's great to see this royal duo enjoying a tiara-free moment together. Royal Baby Photo! Princess Beatrice Shares Brand New Pics of Daughter Athena Solve the daily Crossword

How Thomas Markle caused 'chaos' for everyone during the run up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding as the Duchess of Sussex's father celebrates his 81st birthday

During the run up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 's wedding in May 2018 there were two guests who sparked an intense interest from both the public and the press - the bride's mother and father. But while Doria Ragland kept her head down before the big day, Thomas Markle - who is 81 today - appeared to be actively seeking out the limelight to capitalise on his daughter's marriage into the most famous family in the world. In fact, Thomas' actions caused his son-in-law Prince Harry to declare that the father of the bride caused 'chaos' in the days before the wedding. Writing in his tell-all biography Spare, Harry lifted the curtain on the drama revolving around Thomas that engulfed the Royal Family just days before the ceremony. The prince said that Meghan had spent months trying to 'soothe' her father who had been left upset by his media coverage. 'His pride was constantly wounded,' Harry wrote. 'Every day there was another humiliating photo in the paper.' Considering Thomas' previous unease with his coverage in the papers, Harry and Meghan were surprised when they got word that he had in fact staged a candid photoshoot working with the paparazzi. Asked point blank if the story was true Thomas said no. Harry said: 'He swore he'd never staged any photos, that he hadn't taken part in any such charade, that he didn't know the pap in question. 'Meg whispered to me: "I believe him".' But then the next morning the story broke and it was proved that Thomas had indeed lied. 'A week before the wedding, this now became the story... Soon after the story broke, Thomas Markle sent us a text: "I'm so ashamed",' Harry wrote. The story then took another dramatic turn when Thomas then had a heart attack which finally ended any prospect of him attending the wedding. Despite his absence, Thomas still continued to cause 'chaos' for the bride and groom. According to Harry, Meghan was somewhat distracted by her father when drama erupted over Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress. The Duke of Sussex claimed that Meghan had missed Kate Middleton's text about issues with Charlotte's dress because she was 'dealing with the chaos surrounding her father'. It has been widely reported that the tense stand-off between Kate and Meghan took place after Charlotte's fitting for her bridesmaid dress. According to royal insider Tom Bower, Kate allegedly believed that the bridesmaids should wear tights as per royal protocol. However, at Meghan's 'insistence' the tradition was dropped. Their biggest disagreement was over the length of Charlotte's hem, which Kate believed was too short for the three-year-old princess. Meghan's assistant Melissa Toubati and dress-fitter Clare Waight Keller claimed to have 'witnessed Meghan emphatically reject Kate's observation,' Bower said. The altercation caused Kate to burst into tears according to presenter and friend of Queen Camilla, Kirstie Allsopp. Reports differ about what happened next. Bower wrote that Kate went over to Meghan's quarters in Kensington Palace with a bunch of flowers and asked her not to speak rudely to her staff. 'In Kate's version, Meghan slammed the door in her face and threw the flowers in a dustbin,' Bower wrote. After the wedding it was the now-Princess of Wales' report of the altercation that made headlines about Meghan's 'diva' behaviour. Meghan would recall her version of events during her bombshell interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey in 2021. There, she claimed that the tears were in fact hers, and the flowers an apology. 'A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining - yes, the issue was correct - about flower-girl dresses, and it made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings,' Meghan said during the interview. 'What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn't do but that happened to me.' 'And the people who were part of our wedding going to our comms team and saying, "I know this didn't happen." I don't have to tell them what actually happened,' she added. Since the wedding, Meghan and Harry have not communicated with Thomas, and he has never had the opportunity to meet his son-in-law - or grandchildren Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four. 'I've had a good life and I am proud of what I've accomplished, but everything has been overshadowed by what has happened in the last six years,' he told Mail Online last year. 'I've never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won't be in touch.' Thomas has put further strain on their relationship by repeatedly giving interviews to the press since Meghan married into the Royal Family. In July 2018, during an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Thomas claimed his daughter would be 'nothing without me. I made her the Duchess she is today'. He has also appeared on talk shows such as Good Morning Britain, where he has spoken at length about his relationship with Harry and Meghan. The Duchess's father had been living in Mexico before he upped and moved across the world to the Philippines earlier this year. Thomas along with his son - Thomas Jr - are now living on the tropical island of Cebu. Speaking about his move to South East Asia, Thomas told the Daily Mail: 'I am ready for a change. 'I have felt stuck in a rut for some time and I am ready to meet new people and experience kindness.' He said: 'At 80 it is time to go somewhere where the people are lovely and I can enjoy a quieter, friendlier existence. 'In South East Asia the medical care is good, you can live reasonably cheaply, the people are kind and respect older people and the food is healthy. 'Mostly I just want peace. At 80, none of us know how long we have left. 'I want whatever time I have to be peaceful with none of the awful drama of recent years.' Since the move, the Markles have not found Cebu to be the tranquil paradise they were expecting, with the men reportedly struggling to adapt to the extremely hot and humid weather on the island. The Daily Express reported that concerns had been raised about how the climate could affect Thomas's poor health, with claims that the father had been seen walking with a cane recently. Their new life in a high-rise flat in the Philippines's fifth largest city is world's away from the luxury lifestyle his daughter and family enjoy in Montecito, California. But with the rift between father and daughter still as wide as ever, it seems unlikely Thomas will be making the 7,000-mile journey to reunite with Meghan any time soon.

Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi posts sweet tribute to Princess Beatrice on their fifth wedding anniversary

Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi hailed his wife Princess Beatrice as an 'incredible partner, the most beautiful and amazing wife' in a gushing Instagram post marking their fifth wedding anniversary. Proud husband Edoardo, 41, shared the post today, five years to the day that the couple tied the knot in a private Windsor ceremony. He shared a snap of the couple posing together on a beach in Scotland, which he accompanied with the sweet caption. It read: 'Happy 5th Anniversary to my incredible partner, the most beautiful and amazing wife. I cherish every moment we've spent together and am deeply grateful for our journey. Here's to countless more years filled with laughter and tons of love!' Since tying the knot five years ago, Edo and Beatrice, 36, have gone on to welcome two daughters. Their eldest daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, three, was born in September 2021. She was followed by Athena Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, who was born in January this year. It has been reported that Beatrice refers to Wolfie, nine, - the son Edo shares with former partner Dara Huang - as her 'bonus child'. Edo and Beatrice tied the knot at Royal Chapel of All Saints, in the grounds of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson 's home of Royal Lodge, in Windsor Great Park, surrounded by close family including the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank attended, as did Edo's son Christopher, known as Wolfie. They had been due to wed on May 29 at the Chapel Royal in St James's Palace, but those plans were scrapped due to the pandemic. Instead, they exchanged vows on this day five years ago at the Royal Chapel of All Saints, in the grounds of Royal Lodge, Beatrice's childhood family home in Windsor Great Park. The intimate ceremony, which adhered to social distancing measures, was attended by around 20 guests. It was strikingly low-key, compared to Princess Eugenie's extravagant 2018 nuptials, which featured a carriage procession around Windsor and incurred around £2 million in public expenses. In a touching tribute to her late grandmother, Princess Beatrice wore a dress by Norman Hartnell that Her Majesty had first worn for a state dinner in Rome in 1961. The vintage gown was carefully remodelled for Beatrice by the Queen's dresser Angela Kelly and designer Stewart Parvin. Beatrice also wore the Queen Mary Diamond Fringe Tiara, which the then Princess Elizabeth displayed at her wedding to Prince Philip on November 20, 1947. Norman Hartnell, a highly regarded designer of the 20th century, was renowned for his creations favoured by the Windsors. He designed both Queen Elizabeth's wedding dress and coronation gown, as well as Princess Margaret's bridal look. Beatrice's vintage wedding dress was made from ivory Peau De Soie taffeta and trimmed with a band of duchesse satin in a matching hue. It exemplified Hartnell's signature crinoline silhouette and passion for embellishment, showcased in geometric hand-embroidered diamantés across the bodice, waist and hips. Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin softened the full-skirted silhouette to create a more contemporary shape, and recreated the underskirt and petticoats, bound with silk tulle. To comply with the regulations of the place of worship, short sleeves of triple organza were added to the straps and embroidered with vintage crystals to match the original design. Each alteration made to the dress was reversible. On her feet, Beatrice wore a pair of champagne satin Valentino heels, which she had debuted at William and Kate's wedding in 2011. For her big day, Beatrice wore a vintage dress by Norman Hartnell and the Queen Mary Diamond Fringe Tiara, on loan from her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Elizabeth wore the same tiara at her wedding to Prince Philip on November 20, 1947 The entire charming ensemble went on public display at Windsor Castle in 2020. The socially-distanced event at the Royal Chapel of All Saints marked the first royal wedding behind closed doors in 235 years. The chapel was decorated with pink and white delphiniums, roses, waxflowers and hydrangeas, sourced from Windsor Great Park. Beatrice carried a bouquet of trailing jasmine, pale pink and cream sweet peas, Royal Porcelina ivory spray roses, pink O'Hara garden roses, pink waxflowers, baby pink astilbe flowers and sprigs of myrtle. Following tradition, the bride sent her bouquet to be laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey. During the 30-minute service, Sarah Ferguson and Nikki Williams-Ellis, the mothers of the bride and groom, read the couple's favourite poems: I Carry You In My Heart by E E Cummings and William Shakespeare's Sonnet 116. Edoardo's then- three-year-old son, Wolfie, played the roles of best man and pageboy. Prince Andrew escorted his daughter down the aisle but did not appear in any of the photographs shared with the public.
