JKDNKA director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said that in the first operation in Lahad Datu at 7 pm, carried out with enforcement officers from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), they raided a store at a palm oil plantation and arrested four men aged between 20 and 31.
'We seized a lorry head with a tanker containing 30,000 litres of crude palm oil, a van, three motorised oil pumps with hoses and tanks, as well as drums filled with crude palm oil.
'The total amount of crude palm oil seized is estimated to weigh 30,148 tonnes, with a market value of RM152,090, and the overall value of the seizure in this operation is estimated at RM645,890,' he said in a statement yesterday.
Azmi said the case is being investigated under Regulation 5(1)(b) of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005, adding that police also issued five summonses (POL 257) for vehicle-related offences such as expired road tax, no insurance coverage and driving without a licence.
Meanwhile, in the second operation in Tawau at 2.30 pm on Friday, police seized 622 fighting cocks and arrested three men, including two foreign men from Indonesia and the Philippines, all aged around their 50s.
'At the first location in Kampung Apas Parit, two Indonesian men and two Filipino men were arrested, and police seized 470 fighting cocks believed to be from the Philippines, 40 rooster spur knives, 180 units of vitamins and 500 chicken cages.
'At the second location in Kampung Membalua Off Jalan Apas, a 57-year-old man was detained along with 152 fighting cocks, with the total estimated value of the seizures at both locations being RM3,287,708,' he said.
He added that all those arrested are being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, Sections 55B, 39B & 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 6 of the Dangerous Weapons Act 1958. — Bernama

Youth claims trial to raping cousin when she was 7 and 12

The court allowed the accused to post bail of RM3,000 and ordered him to report to the nearest police station every month. (Pexels pic) PETALING JAYA : A youth has claimed trial to raping his cousin sister in Tuaran, Sabah, on two occasions, once when she was seven and five years later when she was 12. The 19-year-old was charged in the Kota Kinabalu sessions court with committing the offences on the victim sometime in 2019 and 2024, Daily Express reported. The charges were framed under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years in prison and whipping upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Bryan Francis had urged the court not to allow the accused bail as he was a relative of the victim and posed a 'risk' to witnesses in the case. Lawyers acting for the accused pleaded for bail, saying their client is unemployed, had voluntarily come forward to assist in investigations, and also had to care for his parents who were ill. Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan allowed the accused bail at RM3,000 but ordered him to report to the nearest police station every month and not to have any contact with the victim.

JPJ nets 1,194 offenders in July seat belt blitz on buses

KLANG, July 23 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a total of 1,194 summonses to bus drivers and passengers nationwide under the Special Operation on Seat Belt Usage which began on July 1. JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said of the total, 1,108 summonses were issued to passengers, followed by 62 to drivers, and 24 cases involved the failure to install seat belts. He said among the reasons given to avoid being fined were that they were unaware seat belt usage was mandatory and that enforcement had already been gazetted. 'This excuse is unacceptable, as checks revealed that most bus operators and drivers have either made announcements or displayed notices reminding passengers to wear seat belts,' he said at a press conference after visiting the Pioneer Coachbuilder Sdn Bhd bus body manufacturing plant in Telok Gong here today. Aedy Fadly added that tourists or non-citizens would also not be exempted from action under existing provisions if found not wearing seat belts while on buses. However, he noted that overall compliance with seat belt usage on express and tour buses has shown improvement, thanks to proactive steps taken by bus operators to remind passengers. 'Overall, we are seeing an increase in compliance, and passengers are beginning to better understand the importance of wearing seat belts,' he said. — Bernama

DBKL, Immigration raid illegal businesses in Cheras under ‘KL Strike Force'

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — City Hall (DBKL) and Immigration authorities have cracked down on businesses hiring undocumented foreign workers in a special 'KL Strike Force' operation. The joint effort targeted premises in Taman Pudu Ulu, Cheras that employed foreigners without valid permits. During the sweep, Immigration officers checked passports and work documents as part of their enforcement duties. DBKL issued 10 compound notices for offences ranging from illegal employment to obstructing public spaces. Officers also took action against food outlets operating in unsanitary conditions, with pests found during inspections. Two premises were ordered to shut, one licence was cancelled, and three others faced confiscation of furniture for blocking public walkways. The enforcement drive also focused on unlicensed traders and businesses misusing their approved permits. DBKL said it would continue its coordinated checks and urged the public to report any suspicious business activity.
