New control tower at Trichy airport likely to be ready by Dec
Airports Authority of India
(AAI) said that the new air traffic control (ATC) tower and technical block at the Trichy airport is likely to be ready by Dec this year. The tower which will serve the increased traffic of the new integrated passenger terminal was slated to completed by this month.
The 151ft-tall tower will feature an eight-storey ATC block and four-storey technical block, proposed at an outlay of Rs 60.7 crore. Construction work for the new block began in mid-2023.Officials said around 75% of work has been completed so far. "We have planned to complete the work by Sep. Subsequently, a team from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will inspect and approve it for commissioning. It may become operational by Dec," S Gnaneswara Rao, director of Trichy airport, told TOI. The new ATC tower is being constructed between the old terminal and new integrated passenger terminal, providing a clear view of aircrafts approaching and leaving the runway. Trichy airport is currently handling 53 to 62 flights (both domestic and international) per day, up from 40 to 50 flights handled per day in Feb this year. Due to the increase in flight services, AAI had commissioned a Doppler Very High-Frequency Omni Range/Distance Measuring Equipment (DVOR/DME), an advanced navigational facility, at the Trichy airport. Meanwhile, aviation enthusiasts urged the AAI to preserve the old ATC tower, which was opened in Nov 1960, as a heritage site. "Instead of demolishing the existing ATC tower after the new facility becomes operational, AAI must consider using the 65-year-old tower for educational and training purposes," H Ubaidullah, an aviation analyst, said. Officials that a decision on making use of the old ATC tower is yet to be finalised.

Vypeen Beach Corridor Project gets lease of life
KOCHI: The ambitious Vypeen Beach Corridor Project, envisioned in 2017, has received a new lease of life with the state government granting administrative sanction to the proposal, albeit in a watered-down version. Instead of the Rs 4-crore project that would have catalysed the development of Ernakulam district's coastal stretch by connecting multiple beaches from Vypeen to Munambam, the new version enables infrastructure development at only three beaches. Vypeen MLA's office said the new project will bring tourism infrastructure at Cherai, Munambam and Kuzhuppilly beaches. 'An amount of Rs 2.98 crore has been approved by the works committee and KEL (Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company) has prepared a detailed project report for the proposal,' an official with the MLA's office told TNIE. Sources pointed out that the project got delayed by eight years due to the objections raised by the Coastal Zone Management Authority. There was also the issue that these beaches are in sensitive places. The project in its original format would have seen the development of a coastal stretch, while enhancing tourism and fishing activities. The project included developing amenities, watchtowers, and kiosks, besides mangrove restoration and the potential construction of an oceanarium. Now, with KEL submitting a revised plan for the project that adheres to CRZ norms and the number of beaches being brought down to three, where the security aspect doesn't pose a hurdle, the tourists arriving at these spots will have a good time. A tourism official said, under the project, plans have been made to construct parking facilities and benches and to upgrade restrooms. 'There are also plans to set up cafes at these beaches. They will be operated under the policy of enabling the local community to earn a livelihood from tourism,' the official said.

Remove Ads New plan for Mumbai Big aviation bull Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads The Adani Group is all set for a major expansion of its airport business that will entail an investment of nearly Rs 1 lakh crore over a period of five years, the conglomerate's airport head Jeet Adani told the Times of India in an group currently runs seven airports in India, including Mumbai CSMIA. Another new airport, in Navi Mumbai, will comes under the group's airport portfolio starting October this to Jeet Adani ( Gautam Adani 's son), this capex will be infused into infra and real estate development. There is currently no plan to spread this business to other countries because the potential in India itself is immense, he told ToI's Saurabh new airport plan will be a five-year rolling programme, Adani said. Over the next five years, the group's precise total investment in the airport ecosystem -- infrastructure plus real estate -- will be Rs 95,000-96,000 crore, he added.A majority of this investment will go into Navi Mumbai Airport and Mumbai Airport -- basically into real estate in these two entities, Jeet Adani other major parts of the plan include new terminals at airports in Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram, etc, over the next four years. Besides, the new terminal in Lucknow will see expansion. A new terminal at Guwahati is also ready and will be commissioned this October-November, Adani business has no immediate plans for setting up shop abroad as there are major opportunities in India itself, Adani said. According to him, "We keep getting feelers from abroad. But at the end of the day, it's about our management bandwidth and where do we want to keep our capital.""We believe India will see some serious growth in the next 10-15 years. There's so much growth opportunity here with 26 airports already identified for being developed PPP way. Our focus is on going deeper in India and establishing a broader presence here, rather than going abroad," he a peek into the group's plan for Navi Mumbai, Adani said phase I and II have been clubbed, and that the airport will open with an initial capacity of 2 crore passengers annually (CPA)."This has been built with a capex of Rs 19,000 crore. We have already started work on T2 for Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) which could either be 3-CPA capacity at Rs 30,000 crore or 5-CPA capacity with a capex of Rs 40-45,000 crore," Adani said."That decision will be taken shortly and T2 construction work will start in 6-12 months. Our overall capex on NMIA that will take it to the ultimate capacity of 9 CPA will be Rs 1 lakh crore. A completely new T1 at Mumbai CSMIA will be built by 2032 at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore," he told the the project, the group will put in its own equity. According to Adani, "Equity we will put on our own. We have to refinance NMIA. The same lenders have already expressed willingness to participate in the next round. Our philosophy is to pre-invest in infra because we are willing to take a position on the growth of the aviation sector and growth of the economy of the cities we are in. The sector has some real tailwinds."Explaining why he is so bullish on aviation, Adani affirmed that the group is "here just as an airport operator but are here to drive the entire ecosystem forward.""It is not a fight between airline and airport operators. Collectively, our aviation ecosystem has to get the traffic currently transiting between India and rest of the world through nearby hubs in the Gulf, Southeast Asia and even Europe (for North America market)," he said."Those places have a deep integration between airports and airlines, which as of now is not there in India. Fortunately as a group, we have fantastic relationship with IndiGo and the Tatas. We have spoken to both and have asked them to include us into their planning and be a part of our planning," he added.
