Sofia Vergara fans are all saying the same thing as her hometown unveils 24ft-tall statue tribute on her birthday

Fans of Sofia Vergara were all left saying the same thing when her hometown unveiled 24ft-tall statue of her. The sculpture was inaugurated on the riverfront promenade of the Colombian city of Barranquilla on July 1, the actress's 53rd birthday. The enormous tribute to the Hollywood star stands at 7.5metres (24' 7') tall and weighs a whopping 5.5 tonnes (865 st). It was created by renowned sculptor Yino Marquez, who spent seven months working on it in his workshop and was assisted by six young students and graduates of a local art school. However, fans were left less than impressed claiming that the statue looked nothing like her with some saying it looked more like Jessica Rabbit. When asked by MailOnline in an online poll 54% of people agreed and said they didn't think the statue looked like Sofia. Others commented: 'Could be anybody, what a waste of money...'; 'Looks nothing like her'; 'Oh yeah, it looks exactly like 'I don't see how anyone could recognise the face on that thing. When they mentioned Columbia in the article I assumed that's who it was. While she is an absolute stunner at 52, that statue is an absolute miss. Horrible'; 'The sculptor is not very good at faces, must have gone to the same art school as the guy who did Ronaldo.' The unveiling ceremony was led by the Colombian city's mayor, Alejandro Char. He told the assembled crowd: 'Barranquilla is at your feet. Thank you for being who you are, thank you for being proudly Barranquillera. Char said of Sofia Vergara, who the statue was modelled after: 'She's never stopped being one of us - she never changed her accent. 'She's always stayed true to herself: her spirit, her joy, her determination. And look where it's taken her - so far.' Marquez also created Barranquilla's Shakira statue, which was unveiled on 26 December 2023. However, fans were left less than impressed claiming that the statue looked nothing like her with some saying it looked more like Jessica Rabbit It stands on the same promenade, is also made of bronze, but is a metre shorter than his latest piece. The Shakira statue went viral at the time for a spelling mistake on the plaque. It read: 'Made by artist Yino MArques in the La Paz neighbourhood with the support of students and graduates of the District School of Arts.' The sculptor's name - this time spelt correctly - appeared below it. Local man David asked at the time: 'Can someone please explain whether the artist's last name is with an S or a Z? 'This kind of mistake really annoys me. I appreciate the tribute, but this detracts a lot.'

Rita Ora continues her NYC fashion parade with head-to-toe Pucci, tiny mini skirts and cheeky hotpants

Rita Ora has made the most of her work trip to NYC, showing off an incredible designer wardrobe whilst in town. The singer, who was in the Big Apple to headline a free concert at Brooklyn Bridge Park, has turned the city sidewalks into her catwalk for the past week. Her outfit on Sunday night was from her current favourite designer Pucci, with Rita teaming one of the fashion house's iconic £400 scarves with a figure hugging skirt and cowboy boots. Earlier in the day Rita was in another pink look, teaming £750 Pucci print jeans with a draped top and statement shades and necklace. On Monday Rita was spotted in a chic grey mini skirt and blazer for press and promo in the city. The Clueless-style look was completed with a 'The Rumors Are True' print t-shirt and a pop of colour from her bright yellow socks. On Sunday night Rita was in a more risque look, putting on a cheeky display in tiny hotpants and a racy corset for a night out. Rita has been having the time of her life in NYC and bought a little bit of home with her as she headed to the the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday to cheer on Chelsea football team. The star acted as Chelsea's human 'lucky charm' as they stormed to a 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. She was described as the team's human lucky charm by her photographer friend Rosie Matheson, who shared the star's celebrations on Instagram. She has also been doing press in NYC, appearing on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show where she opened up about her friendship with the late Liam Payne. Rita was asked if she will watch an upcoming reality series that features the late singer, admitting that she does still think about him from time to time, which keeps the memory alive, after he passed away in Argentina towards the end of last year. Host Elvis asked whether she will watch Building the Band, a new show and Liam's final project - which wrapped filming shortly before he passed away. The first four episodes aired on Netflix earlier this week, with three more episodes due to drop on July 16. Earlier in the day Rita was in another pink look, teaming Pucci print jeans with a draped top and statement shades and necklace Rita responded: 'I 100% will watch it. That's a really great friend of mine. I still sort of feel him anyway, so it's fine.' She continued: 'I have the last song that I think we did together as a duo and I sing it all the time. And it just feels like he's just right there. And we always do a cute little moment of a photo of him and it feels fantastic to just feel like he's still around through music. 'That's why music is so powerful. It really does bring back a person, a memory, a feeling. 'So yeah, I have this incredible memory with him, with For You, our song together, and I'll always have that.'
