Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds' success in British football, where he has seen his investment grow multiple times, is attracting a lot of Ultra High Net Worth Individuals (UHNIs) and successful businesses to invest in the clubs in the region.
The latest to join the bandwagon is Alexis Ohanian, the Reddit co-founder and husband of tennis great Serena Williams, and India's fantasy sports and gaming major, Dream Sports.
Ryan Reynolds bought Welsh football club Wrexham AFC with another Hollywood actor, Rob McElhenney, for £2 million in 2021. At that time, the club was in the National League, which is the fifth tier of English football.

With the financial and strategic help from Reynolds and some brilliant on-field coaching from Phil Parkinson, Wrexham have now secured three back-to-back promotions and will be playing in England's second division of the football pyramid next season.

Reynolds' investment is also set to grow by 7,400% as Wrexham's .
Joining the bandwagon, Ohanian, who is known for investing in women's sports teams, has acquired a 10% stake in Women's Super League champions Chelsea.
'I've bet big on women's sports before—and I'm doing it again,' Ohanian posted on X. 'I'm proud to announce that I'm joining Chelsea Women as an investor and board member. I'm honored for the chance to help this iconic club become America's favourite WSL team and much, much more.'
Ohanian's investment of £20 million values the London-based club at about £200 million.
The 42-year-old has a strong track record in women's sports, having been the largest shareholder of Angel City FC, a club he helped launch with much fanfare in 2020. The team was eventually sold in 2024 for £197 million.
He also founded Athlos NYC, a women-only track and field event that debuted in September, awarding $60,000 to each winner.
According to The Times, Ohanian and Serena Williams are expected to attend the Women's FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, where Chelsea will face Manchester United.
A new chapter begins for Dream Sports and @SalfordCityFC!
We are thrilled to be a part of such an esteemed group of members! Led by football legends, David Beckham and @GNev2, and leaders including Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies, @SalfordCityFC's community of owners will… — Dream Sports (@DreamSportsHQ) May 9, 2025

Joining the European football party is India's Dream Sports.
Dream Sports, who are known for its fantasy sports platform Dream11, has joined the ownership group of English football club Salford City FC. Salford City's co-owners include football legends and former Manchester United players David Beckham, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.
Salford City currently competes in League Two, which is the fourth tier of English football.
While the exact investment form Dream Sports in Salford is still unknown, it seems like it will not be the end of money flowing into English football.

'Acclimatised Watkins, Unseasoned Sesko': The Answer To Manchester United's Striker Woes?

The Mancunian side have laid eyes on their next target, expressing strong interest in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Seko, with Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins tipped as another option. Manchester United, who finished an abysmal 15th in the Premier League last season, look to banish ghosts of the year past ahead of the upcoming season of the English top-flight and have dipped into the transfer market with the intent of roping in forwards to address the goal-scoring woes of the side. United have managed to complete the signings of forwards Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for a combined value exceeding the £130m mark and look to add further firepower to the fable side that has been underwhelming to say the least in recent times. The Mancunian side have laid eyes on their next target, expressing strong interest in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Seko, with Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins tipped as another option. While latest developments suggest that United are much more inclined towards the acquisition of the Slovenian striker from Leipzig, head coach Ruben Amorim, who took over from former gaffer Erik Ten Hag following the Dutchman's sacking from the helm of the Red Devils, opined that he would like for the club to look into the possibility of bringing Englishman Watkins on board earlier. Despite his advancing age, the 29-year-old proved that he could still cut it at the very top of the game as he struck 16 times and provided 8 assists in the 2024/25 season of the league and powered Villa to a sixth place finish, earning them European football in the UEFA Europa League next season. Sesko, on the other hand, netted 13 times and set up five assists in 33 outings for Leipzig in the most recent season of the Bundesliga to help his side finish seventh in the German top-flight with 51 points to their name from 34 games. United may not get either of them on the cheap, much like the Red Devils have become accustomed to in recent times, the Jim Ratcliffe-owned unit seems to favour a switch for Sesko, given the Slovenian striker's potential, age and the sheer physicality of the tall striker. As mouth-watering as that descriptions sounds, the young striker is a largely untested quantity especially in terms of Premier League football, which could prove to be a paradigm shift for many a striker who dare to venture into English soil. United need to look at the restoration of the club to its old glory as a log-term project, but would have to deliver immediate results starting next season in order to satiate the stakeholders and fans, who have been spoilt by the victorious history of the club under the aegis of Sir Alex Ferguson, but has severely dwindled in quality and sheen with each managerial change since the departure of the great Scot. While Sesko might look like an attractive option considering his age and United's long-term vision, the 29-year-old Watkins serves as a proven striker who can provide instant output upon his arrival to Old Trafford, if the move does come to pass indeed. With Newcastle, who can offer UEFA Champions League football following their fifth place finish last year, are said to be expressed in the two strikers United have their eyes on as well, with the two clubs snapping up a player each the most likely possibility as things stand. However, Newcastle could get more aggressive in their approach if star Swede Alexander Isak completes a switch to Champions Liverpool, which the forward has been pushing for by opting out of the Toons' travelling unit for the pre-season and opting to train alone at he facilities of his former club Real Sociedad. Legacy aside, and with the mind solely on current state of affairs, Newcastle sounds like a more appealing option for any striker and the monetary benefits that the club selling to Eddie Howe and Co. could play a massive role in determining who ends up where as the merry-go-round of players goes into overdrive. Ultimately, who United end up with might not be solely reliant on their own devices but could pull off a heist if suggestions around the Manchester club to offer up underperforming striker Rasmum Hojlund in a player plus cash swap for Sesko. However, there is the possibility that it could leave the club in a position no better than the one they find themselves in right now with another forward rocking up on English territory only to see all the promise dissipate amid the whirlwind of the Premier League. Many overseas flames have been extinguished by the PL flood over time as the English top-flight remains one of the most unforgiving territories to ply a footballer's trade and hence the value of acclimatisation to the trying league cannot be overstated. And with Amorim requiring instant impact to keep his head afloat in a ship that seems to be sinking at speed, the arrival of Watkins remains the wiseman's bet, if Aston Villa are ready to part way with their unsung hero. Another up-side of roping in the English forward is his ability to link up with his teammates and freeing up space for United's other new recruits, especially Cunha and Mbuemo, clubbed with his awareness of where the net is, make him a lethal and high-value commodity.
