BisB Celebrates World Environment Day with 'Let's Paint Our Environment'

In celebration of World Environment Day, observed annually on the 5th of June, Bahrain Islamic Bank (BisB), through its Jood Volunteering Team, organised the 'Let's draw our environment' initiative, a creative art competition in collaboration with Down Syndrome Care Centre of the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society. The initiative welcomed the participation of around 20 Down syndrome children, who expressed their vision of the environment and the importance of preserving it using brushes and colours as their creative outlet.
The event was recently held at Down Syndrome Care Centre of the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society in Adliya, in an atmosphere filled with joy and heartfelt interaction. It witnessed the active involvement of Jood Team, alongside a number of BisB employees who volunteered to support and encourage the children throughout the competition. The initiative aimed to highlight the capabilities of this inspiring segment of society, while promoting inclusivity, environmental awareness, and community engagement through meaningful activities.
Mr. Ameer Abdul Ghani Dairi, Chief Financial & Strategy Officer, stated: 'We are pleased to launch this initiative in collaboration with Down Syndrome Care Centre of the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability, whether through standalone programs or through the core pillars that shape our ESG strategy. 'Let's draw our environment' initiative embodies our vision to raise environmental awareness within the community and empower future generations to actively contribute to building a more sustainable future. It also aims to foster innovation and environmental consciousness among children with Down syndrome, reinforcing our role as a purpose-driven institution that champions social inclusion and environmental responsibility.'

This year's report, titled 'International Investment in the Digital Economy,' explores the growing importance of digitalization in shaping global investment flows. The report highlights key policy considerations for attracting digital investment and ensuring inclusive and sustainable development. The event featured a special presentation by Dr. Astrit Sulstarova, Chief of the Trends and Data Section at UNCTAD's Division on Investment and Enterprise, shared highlights and key findings from the report. His remarks underscored the importance of data-driven strategies, robust digital infrastructure, and enabling regulatory environments in the global investment landscape. The launch event brought together senior representatives from leading government and private sectors. Their participation reflects Bahrain's strong commitment to digital transformation and its positioning as a regional hub for innovation and investment. Dr. Zakaria Hajres, Chairman of the MENA Centre for Investment, reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to collaborating with UNCTAD in launching the World Investment Report annually and in strengthening Bahrain's position as a leading global destination for investment, and emphasised that Bahrain's inclusion in this prominent report reflects the success of national policies in creating a business-friendly and attractive investment environment. Dr. Hajres noted that the report highlights the Kingdom of Bahrain's progress across numerous indicators, pointing out its significance as investors around the world regard it a key reference when making investment decisions. Ms. Maryam Mattar of the MENA Centre for Investment highlighted the vital role of regional partnerships and public-private collaboration in advancing digital transformation and maximising the impact of digital investments, stressing the need for coordinated efforts to align with strategic priorities and drive progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals in the MENA region. The event concluded with an invitation for ongoing dialogue and cooperation among policymakers, development institutions, and private sector leaders to align investment strategies with the evolving demands of the digital economy. The report is considered one of the most prominent global publications in its field, offering a comprehensive analysis of foreign direct investment trends worldwide, while also examining developments at both the local and regional levels and highlighting emerging measures aimed at enhancing the role of investment in advancing sustainable development.

NBB Participates in Tree Planting Drive in Zallaq and Zayed Town

In commemoration of World Environment Day, the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) participated in a large-scale tree planting drive on 17th May 2025 across the Kingdom's Zallaq and Zayed Town localities. The activity was conducted under the 'Forever Green' campaign launched by the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) in cooperation with the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, and the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE). The project aims to support national ambitions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change impact while enhancing Bahrain's aesthetic appeal and honouring its agricultural legacy. Marking the fourth phase of the nationwide campaign, the event was organised in collaboration with the NIAD where a total of 206 seedlings were planted over a combined area of 2,518 square metres across Road 55 in Zallaq (745 square metres) and Road 20 in Zayed Town (1,773 square metres). 118 neem seedlings were planted in the Zallaq location, while 76 neem and 12 jatropha seeds were planted along the Zayed Town spot. These seed varieties are well-suited for Bahrain's arid climate and can withstand harsh environmental conditions. The activity was inaugurated with an official ceremony at the Zallaq site in the presence of Her Excellency Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of NIAD, Usman Ahmed, Group Chief Executive Officer of NBB, and Zaina Alzayani, Group Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer of NBB. They were joined by other stakeholders from the agricultural and environmental sectors as well as the Bank's employees who voluntarily took part in the exercise in support of a greener Bahrain. On the occasion, Her Excellency Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of NIAD said, 'This ongoing collaboration with NBB stands as a model for effective public-private partnership in advancing the goals of this national afforestation campaign and promoting environmental sustainability in the Kingdom.' For her part, Zaina Alzayani, Group Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer at NBB stated, 'Our involvement in this project reflects our long-standing belief that real change starts with deliberate action. We are proud to have made another contribution to the national sustainability objectives by helping increase Bahrain's green cover. Planting over 200 seeds across two important locations of the Kingdom is a meaningful way to translate our environmental pledges into tangible outcomes. It is a reminder that sustainability is built on consistency, accountability, and a shared vision for a healthier planet.' The tree planting drive forms part of NBB's wider Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) efforts aimed at contributing positively to the preservation of Bahrain's natural landscapes. Through active engagement, the Bank continues to serve its role as a responsible corporate citizen working diligently to promote ecological consciousness across the Kingdom.
